Roses, Rhubarb and Redheads

My husband recently bought me this beautiful bouquet of pink roses and white lilies to celebrate our 31 years of marriage.  I have such a thoughtful guy!

The colors remind me a little of the Rhubarb that is growing in leaps and bounds in our backyard:

Rhubarb - 1

I happen to like this sour fruit!  I like to bake it with strawberries and sugar (and a tablespoon of red hot cinnamon candy) in the oven.  I’m going to make a batch tomorrow.

I think the big, green (poisonous) leaves are really quite beautiful.

I have fond memories from my childhood where I would tear a crimson stalk from the plant, rinse it with the hose and then dip it into sugar.  It was a sweet, tart treat!  My mom often boiled it in a saucepan with a little water and a lot of sugar to make a rhubarb sauce that we would have over toast for breakfast.

I bet you are wondering about the Redhead part of my post?

Well, I painted my first duck today in watercolor:

My Redhead Duck

It is called a Redhead.  The male has a bright red head, gray back, and black chest and rear end.

A handsome fellow, don’t you think?

Happy Creating!

    • Thank you kindly Laura! I always like your creative blog titles using letters of the alphabet so I tried to be clever like you! 😊 I rushed my painting a bit on the duck and thought I’d messed it up but was able to fix it. 🐦
Happy Friday! Shake your tail feathers! 🐓🐓🐓

  6. Happy anniversary Jill!. I should plant rhubarb in the backyard. I certainly have enough space and I do love rhubarb in pies and preserves.
