A Leaf Study

It feels like fall is in the air!  I especially notice it at the lake as the leaves start to change colors, the temperature cools in the evening and the days start getting shorter.

Summer is my favorite time of year but I also like fall.  I love all the autumn colors!

Last fall, I took an online watercolor class from Fred Lisaius where I did a leaf study:

Fall Leaf Study

I liked the simplicity of the assignment and how the shading brought the leafs to life!

So this year, I decided to start gathering some leaves and berries:

And start studying them in my art journal.

I have lots to choose from in my yard:

And I plan to collect a few at the lake too!

What do you like best about fall?  I’d love to hear from you!

Happy Journaling!  🙂

  1. Jill, your painting is unreal! I had to click in because I wasn’t sure if it was a photo! Wow, I hope that class is still being offered because if so I want to take it. What a gorgeous painting you’ve shared with us here. Ok I love fall the best and like summer the least (I would say I despise and detest it, but trying to keep it light lol). It’s hard to say what’s best about it. I made a long comment on Jodi’s post today with everything I love about it! I think the best is the way it makes me feel: Full of energy and like the day has so much to offer me. The sights, smells, sounds of the leaves crunching underfoot. So much to love about the fall. Thank you Jill, and I look forward to more of your leaf studies!

    • Thank you Laura! 😊 You can take Fred’s class as a self study. If you go to Carla Sonheim’s online classes, you can find it there. He is a wonderful teacher! I really enjoyed his Fall class! 🌿🌿🌿
