A Red Blend

I was doing blind contour drawings of a red wine bottle in my sketchbook and added some watercolor:

I really like how the colors blend into each other – much like a bottle of Cab-Merlot, don’t you think?

I decided to add some color pencil to them to see how it would change them:

Sorry the light isn’t better! Β They look totally different now – what do you think?

Fun to experiment! Β πŸ˜„

Cheers!  🍷

  2. I like them both but prefer the top one. That is a very stylish image, more about color and shape. The bottom one, the darker lines distract from shape and color. Does that make sense? xo Johanna

  3. Great idea Jill, I’m partial to the first one for the minimalist effect.
This would be an interesting abstraction in fabric, too. Beautiful post today.

  6. These are great Jill! πŸ˜ƒI love seeing all of your progressions. Not being an abstract guy myself I was surprised how much I liked the simplicity of the first one. Very cool to watercolor a contour practice sketch…you transformed it nicely! πŸ˜ƒπŸŽ¨

    • Thanks Charlie! ❀️ Yes, I think I like the first one best too. That is the wonderful thing I like about sketchbooks – experimenting and seeing what I like best. πŸ˜„πŸ’–πŸŽ¨πŸ·

  7. Love the overlapping bottles Jill! I drew overlapping pumpkins – should have added color like you did. Still time I guess. πŸ™‚
