Today is Draw A Bird day so I wanted to draw a bird with LOTS of color!
I discovered this common finch called a “Painted Bunting” whose colors look like he was painted with a child’s set of paints:
I did not paint this artful bird, instead I used color pencils and Tombow markers. I added some collage for fun. After all, a bird this colorful should be attending a party!

Thanks Laura! It was fun to combine color pencils and markers together for my bird. Have you ever done this? Jack says, “hi!” BTW! He decided to jump up on my desk as I was typing to you! 😉

Aw, Jill, I don’t think I have tried this, but sounds like maybe I should. I doubt mine would turn out as well as yours do though. You are the Queen of Mixed Media, which is a very cool thing. I love that Jack is saying hi to me! I would love to try drawing him! Not sure if you have any close-ups of his cute little face? I’m so obsessed with faces these days, lol. Give him big furry hugs from his Auntie Laura! ❤

Painting Buntings are so colorful they almost look impossible! Your rendition does it justice and then some…you’ve captured the bird’s essence PLUS made it artful!

Such a cute little male bunting :-)! Their colors really are wonderful. Love the collage fun. And I clicked on the allaboutbirds link and they do have a lovely song. And I discovered that the female is lime green!

Painted Bunting!! Wonderful, I think he turned out rather well and I like the collage elements with him! My neighbor actually gets these birds in his yard…he is a “bird whisperer” of sorts; they never come to my garden!
