Big Bold Blooms #2!

I just finished my second, big,  24 x 30 inch flower painting from Lynn Whipple’s Big Bold Bloom Painting class that I’m taking online.  I just LOVE Lynn’s enthusiasm!  🙂

I know how much you enjoyed seeing my process photos from my last big painting so here are some more for you!

The beginning:

More additions with drips and splatters:

Painted the background a dark blue and added an orange table top:

Added pastels – here are some close-up images:

After I sprayed my piece with a varnish, I lost some of my pastels so I added some oil pastels on top.

My finished piece on a shelf in my dining room:

All this from a beautiful flower bouquet – my inspiration:

Happy Spring!  🙂

  1. I can see the joy in your painting, Jill! You get excited about spring the way i thrill for fall! I admire you working so large. That must be so much fun, to let loose with the color and let the pigment fly! This looks great against the orange walls. Go, Jill, go! 💜🌹❤️

  2. Very inspiring! There’s something about a large piece of paper or canvas that is freeing I think. Wonderful colors too. (K)

  6. Holy Cow, You got this done fast! It’s lovely! I don’t understand why you paint the background in that camo pattern in the beginning? It seems a bit confusing to me, but I’m sure there’s a reason for it, and getting to the finished project is amazing! It looks beautiful on your wall!

    I love those lilies!

    • Thank you Deborah! It helps the brighter colors pop on top of the muted colors plus it gives a good starting point. Sometimes a blank canvas can be intimidating too. 😜 I love the orange lilies too! 🌺💐🌼🌷
