I chose a Hummingbird for my “Draw A Bird” day. A special thanks to Nina and Kerfe at Method Two Madness for hosting this month’s challenge. Be sure to check out their blog as they will be compiling a list of participants who created a bird today.
Here is my Hummingbird in a fine black Sharpie and watercolor:
Did you know that a Hummingbird gets its name from the vibration of its wings as it hovers or flies? Unlike any other bird, a Hummingbird can fly backward, forward and sideways.
Don’t forget to hum as you go about your day. May the vibration bring you JOY!
Happy Creating! 🙂
how sweet!! one of my all time favorite birds Jill, and you have the color just right! love the scarlet flower too 🙂

Thank you Debi! I wish there was a way to add a little iridescence to watercolors. Maybe you know how to do that? 😃

Daniel Smith has some of those paints! or try sprinlking silver powder pigment over damp w/c. lightly.

they have a duo chrome adobe gold I think… that could work as a Thin, glaze over top too. 🙂

Lovely Jill, like the play of loose watercolor wash and details in the bird.

Hummingbirds were my MIL’s favorite bird! They seem so tiny and delicate but are master migrators. I’ve only seen about 4 different species and they’re all darling, just like your painting! ❤

Gorgeous hummingbird, I once thought I saw an escaped one…in the uk!!! Lol I chased it around the garden as it popped its beak into the flowers, turn out it was the hummingbird month, still amazing as it is also pretty rare here.
I saw an above reply about irridecent mediums, Windsor and Newton do exactly that sort of thing, or cheaper still, twinkling H2o, cosmic shimmer, do craft paint with mica in, they are hard paints like a watercolour pan, you can get many colours, and most shimmer beautifully, I have used on fish in the past.

Thank you Rebecca! 😄 I will have to look up a Hummingbird moth – I have never seen one. And thanks for the info about iridescent mediums! I will have to look into it. I use mostly W&N watercolors so I’m excited to hear they also have a product. 💕🎨

It will last ages Jill, it is their usual size medium bottle, and a small amount lasts ages, great fun stuff. Please do you tube the month, it is stunning to see ( more so in person as it fooled me)
