Yesterday while I was making dinner – Lentil soup… I decided to practice making marks with my watercolor brush. I found it made good use of a little free time.
I was inspired by Cynthia at Sand Salt Moon to paint within a grid format. Please check out Cynthia’s post at this link: https://sandsaltmoon.wordpress.com/2016/04/12/mark-making/
Soon dinner was ready – which was perfect timing because I needed the paint to dry!
After dinner, I wanted to relax while watching TV with my husband so I started to doodle on my watercolor experiment. Below are my results – before and after doodling:
I decided to scan my doodle so now I can use a copy as collage paper too!
How do you make the most of your time with your art? I’d love to hear from you!
Happy Mark Making! 🙂
love the ‘pen worked’ results Jill! that little bit of darker tone, with patterning……. ooh la la! and its so helpful too, for us to use a multi section grid for bolder and looser work! very cool Jill 🙂

I agree, the black ink adds lots of dimension. Like Cynthia’s patterns, these would be great for stitching! (K)

What fun artistic creations!! How was the lentil soup? I haven’t had that in ages. Grandma used to make. ☺️

Thanks Jodi! I liked the soup – hubby not so much. Lol! He isn’t a big lentil fan. It was a new recipe I tried that had cumin, coriander and lots of garlic. 💕😊

Sounds delicious to me, but I’m afraid my hubby would be the same way as yours😜

I only made him eat it once. I’m eating the leftovers. Good thing I made half a recipe. Lol! 😜

Love the pen in it. So it’s a grid doodlewash? I might try that. Cool, Jill!

Jill, these doodle are wonderful patterns to use in all kinds of projects. Isn’t it fun to make our own supplies. I’m taking a Japanese brush painting class this morning, I’ll let you know what happens. 😄

Thanks Deborah! 😄 I enjoyed the soup but my hubby is not a big fan of lentils. Do you like lentils? 💕

YW! Love them! I like them in Indian dishes, and have tried making soup myself, but it wasn’t that good. I have to find another recipe I think. I haven’t tried making it since.

I can email you the recipe if you’d like? It is very easy. 😄

Hi! This is a fun idea! Your sketches are delightful! So, I have set a goal to work on my art every day, except Sunday (good to have a break) even if it’s just 20 minutes. And today I sketched while sitting at my kids piano lessons. I should buy watercolors and do that while cooking. And I usually make painting a priority over housework. If you don’t clean it frees up lots of time.

I don’t clean very often and I do try to create something every day too. It makes me less crabby. Lol! 😊 It is amazing where we can squeeze in a little time here and there! Thank you for sharing, Jill. 💖

I make time for art every day. I try to start out my day with something artsy regularly. If I’m really busy doing other stuff, I end up doing drawings late at night. Or if nothing comes to me – then I resort to pattern play with watercolor – like you did here. I love the added doodles. Good thinking to make copies and use them for collage. I will try that. Thanks!
