Since today is National Arbor Day, I want to encourage you to plant a tree!
I created my tree collage by painting Canson Mixed Media paper with inexpensive watercolors:
I was inspired by Cat Bennett in the class, Making Art A Practice – In and Out of the Sketchbook to create my tree and this collage of flowers in a planter by cutting out simple shapes from paper:
I love the simplicity of the shapes in these collages. What do you think?
My husband and I planted this tree in our yard last Sunday – it is an European Larch:
It will be beautiful in the fall.
Happy Planting! 🙂
I love your shapes, Jill, particularly in the tree. Really lovely. Sometimes simple really sings!

Thanks Deborah! I used a photo from a magazine on container plants for the leafy one and the tree is from my imagination. I look forward to see how our tree looks in the fall too! 😄🌿🎨🌟

Larch trees in this neck of the woods drop all their needles in the fall. It becomes a carpet of yellow. They are a fascinating tree.

I’m planting a tree in 2 weeks when the nights will not be at freezing! It will be a fruit tree this year.

The tip of a larch tree always points north…great to know if lost in the woods!

Thank you Jodi! 😃 I was thinking the tree collage might make a good greeting card. I’m going to try scanning it and see how it looks. I had never thought about cutting the veins of leaves or tree bark until I took this class. We were supposed to make a simple arrangement of flowers but I couldn’t stop myself! Lol! 😜🌿 I hope this tree grows…it is the 3rd tree we have planted in this spot in the yard! 🌲🌲🌲
