I love these dwarf variety of yellow Daylilies that I have growing in my yard:
I decided to sketch them with a brown Micron pen before I painted them in watercolors as you see in the photo below on the left. I then cut simple shapes from paper that I previously painted with watercolors to create a more freeform design on the right:
I had fun experimenting in my art journal on a cool Sunday afternoon.
Happy Painting! 🙂

Thanks Kerfe – I like the simplicity of the collage. It helped to make my detailed sketch first so I could understand my shapes for the collage. 🙂

Lilies are hard, but you have a gift for flowers, Jill! Hub grows them too, may have to try again (oh, those from last summer were not postable hehe). Beautiful, inspirational post! Loving that brown Micron pen you used too!

I saw somewhere that described the Lily with 2 sets of triangles. Seeing them in a specific shape helped me although I only hinted at the shape in the collage. Glad you liked them, Laura. And the brown pen did create a different look. 🙂

We had a cool wet weekend too. We have sun today but it is going to take awhile to get some warmth back. 🙂

Lovely paintings, Jill. I like how you did 2 different styles. I think I have a day lilly in the front. A cutting from a friend. It’s just flowering now.

Thanks so much, Charlie! You inspired me to keep painting flowers! And to try sketching in brown ink. I would never have thought of that idea. 🙂
