A Brown-Headed Nuthatch

I like how this bird climbs headfirst down tree trunks.  I decided to try painting it in watercolor for Draw-A-Bird-Day, hosted by Laura at Create Art Everyday.  Be sure to check out her creative mixed media experiments on her blog – if you haven’t already!  🙂

I started with a quick pencil sketch before painting it with watercolor in my art journal.  I was limited on time so this sometimes helps me to fuss less – I’m happy with the results.

Happy Bird Day, Friends!!!  🙂

    • Thanks Laura! 😃 I realized last night that I needed a bird for today so this one was done fairly quickly. I’m finding it helps me to start with a pencil sketch first before adding watercolor. I’m glad you like it. ❤️

      • I think fast is so much better, Jill, sure helped me with my bird too. I can’t imagine painting a bird without a sketch first. I’m definitely not that brave or talented. Your nuthatch is really beautiful, Jill. The main thing is that you’re happy with it, and I’m really glad you are! ❤
