I started two flower paintings on canvas yesterday. I thought you might enjoy seeing the beginning stages.
I enjoyed adding texture to my first layer using a natural sea sponge. After the first layer dried, I drew a quick sketch in pencil and then painted around my shapes.

And my bright and bold second one:
I didn’t have to work yesterday so I painted most of the day. It was AWESOME!! A great thing to do on a rainy day. I look forward to having more time to finish them this weekend.

Thanks Jodi! 😃 It’s acrylic. It is for the online class I’m taking from Lynn Whipple. Most people chose white for their background color but I chose red! ❤️ Lol! 😍

Very unique…..love the color and experimentation…..my favorite is the first one. We are now having rains and looking forward to painting and some down time.

I found that adding a layer of clear gesso over the acrylic gives it some tooth for the pastels. Have you tried this?

No I haven’t I think of smoothness with a clear gesso, so interesting. So is that different than a acrylic medium? I’ll have to look into that.

Yes, I purchased Liquitex brand. It says on the container that it works as a pastel ground. And it dries clear so you don’t know it’s there until you rub your hand over it. 🎨😊

Glad you like them, Cynthia! It was an experiment to blend 3 colors on each canvas and then use a natural sea sponge to texture it. One of those happy accidents! 😃💕🎨💐
