I was shopping at the grocery store and came across this interesting looking fruit…perhaps you’ve seen it:
It’s called a Dragon Fruit or Pitahaya. According to Wikipedia, it is the fruit of several cactus species indigenous to the Americas. This one came from Vietnam.
I saw it as an opportunity to draw and paint an unusual shape!
Here is my sketch with a black micron pen and a little watercolor:
The fruit is white with black seeds and slightly sweet:
I peeled off the outside pink skin and then sliced the flesh. It was fun to try something new!
Have you ever had Dragon Fruit? How do you prepare it?
Enjoy your day! 🙂
It looks so sweet and fun! Great drawing too.

Glad you enjoyed it Carol! 😊 I like the color of the white next to the bright pink skin too. It would look great in a salad. It had a mild taste and reminded me a little of a jicama.

I did like it although I was hoping it would be sweeter. I think it will be a fun addition to a salad or smoothie. 😍

Yes. They are rather tart. 😳

Mine wasn’t tart but didn’t have much flavor, kind of reminded me of a jicama. 😉

Well done Jill. That would be fun to draw. I have seen Dragon Fruit but had no idea what it was nor any idea what to do with it. You have the right idea. Draw it first ask questions later. 🙂

Thank you Snehal! It was mildly sweet – not sure mine was ripe because it is supposed to taste closer to a kiwi. 😊
