As many of you know, I find doodling to be a meditative practice.
I like to draw patterns in the evening, often while my hubby is watching basketball or whatever sport is on TV. My hubby gets VERY involved with the games and often “encourages” the team and refs to play better. 😉
So I doodle away… Like this one I recently started:
And have been adding to it, a little each evening:
I was looking for inspiration for patterns and decided to look at this book I had purchased awhile back:
It has lots of creative ideas with blank pages to experiment! Super fun!
If I get stuck, I look at this book for inspiration. I usually can’t “copy” the patterns but use them as a place to start my own doodle pattern:
This doodle is approximately 5 inches wide by 5.25 inches in length. I am using a Pigma Micron pen in various sizes – primarily .01
I try to balance shapes, patterns and value in my designs. This is part of the fun! I’m still working on this doodle and will post it when I’m done! 🙂
What inspires YOU to create patterns or doodle creatively?
I hope you share it with me!
Cheers! 🙂
Your doodles are wonderful Jill – I do this when I’m on the phone for a long time (usually to family). I’ve done it since I was a child – I used to doodle all over the telephone pad which was meant for writing useful stuff down on and always kept by the phone…. it used to drive my mother nuts….

I like those pens too…each width has its own charms. As do your doodles! (K)

Yes, my only complaint is they dry out rather quickly. I have several that are almost to the end of ink… but I hate to throw them away! 😉

Thank you, Kathy! I started with the round shapes that reminded me of Cheerios cereal with raspberries and blueberries… Lol! 😋

You know I love this Jill! I often open my laptop to Pinterest and get inspirations, drawing a bit from this and that, pins I have saved from other artists…I seem to be hung up on a 0.4 nib, I need to vary things up and use different sizes!

I was thinking of you when I wrote this post, Jenna! ❤️😍 I think you’d love this book as it has some great ideas for using doodles as projects in your home. There is a banner idea I want to try. Also, some easier ideas to do with kids. Pinterest is a great place for ideas! 🎨👍 I love your doodles! 💕

My ideas come from all over. Magazines. Pinterest, nature and sometimes when I’m cooking. Just this morning I was cutting the tops off little bell peppers and I thought the group would make an interesting pattern. They looked like little hats.

Fabulous doodles, Jill. When I doodle it is usually cubes, sometimes singular, sometimes stacked up. I may start using different shapes!

Hi Tom! 😃 I find myself more attracted to circles but I have been trying to think outside the circle and consider squares. I find it interesting what attracts us when we doodle. I enjoyed your comments. 👍
