I always enjoy hearing what fiction books YOU are reading!
- What is your past favorite book as a child?
- What did you read recently?
- And perhaps… What you just started! 🙂
Below are my answers to these questions (highlighted):
And my goals for reading books this year – I hope to read at least one book a month:
I enjoyed this assignment from Carla Sonheim in the 365 Daily Creative Practice online class. It made me pay attention to the first sentence of a book of fiction.
After all, I do believe it IS that first sentence that truly grabs my attention!
Happy Reading!
Cheers! 🙂
My favorite book as a child was “a Tree Grows in Brooklyn”. I’m now almost done with “the Handmaids Tale” which I’m reading for book club, but is pretty good. I normally don’t like dystopian novels. I’m going to read “at Bertram’s Hotel “ (Agatha Christie) next. Happy reading!

Thank you for your comments! I enjoyed hearing why you are reading! 😃 I like book clubs because they have helped me read books I probably wouldn’t read. I’ve read some great books this way. 📚

I’m such a slow reader these days! I loved horse stories as a child–Misty, the Black Stallion series. But as an adult reading to my children, the Little House books were a favorite.
At the moment I’m reading a book called “Ka” about a mythological crow relating his life. Kind of fantasy I guess.
Before this one, I read “The Wendy Project”, a graphic novel. I liked it. Serious, though.
It’s good to have a goal…good luck!

I remember Misty! I enjoyed that one too as a child. 😃 I have difficulty focusing sometimes so I don’t read as much fiction as I used to when I was younger. It sounds like you enjoy a variety. 📚

what a good idea to make a yearly reading list Jill! I have a Pinterest board, Library, where I pin books I want to read, and a wish list on Amazon, but I need to make a more definite list per your example. Eloise was my favorite as a child, and I’ve gone through phases over the years, like WWII fiction, Agatha Christie, legal and political fiction, now I’m more into chick lit and light murder mysteries…

I think a list will help me to remember what authors I read and would like to read more of! 📚 I like your Pinterest board idea. I used to read a lot of John Grisham and a variety of other authors and book types. Now I like a good story that will keep my attention. 😃 I like light murder mysteries too!

Hi Jill – What a great idea..I read the Beverly Cleary books as a child and love them. I’m currently I’m reading “Life So Far”, by Betty Freidan. One of all time favorite books is “The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Society” by Annie Barrows and Mary Anne Shaffer.

Such a fun idea and so beautiful to look at with all the colorful books. I must give some thought. Reading Sharon’s comment though reminds me how much I adored Beverly Clearly books as a child. an all time favorite book is all the light we cannot see. Happy reading!

Hi Jodi, I don’t remember the Beverly Cleary books as a child. I looked them up on Amazon. I did read, All the Light We Cannot See, and enjoyed it. You are in a book club, right? Do you find it helps you read more books? 😃📚

I’ve always had a bit of a ‘thing’ for Ursula LeGuin and especially her Earthsea Series and Mary Stewart’s Merlin books. What am I reading now, well, I have about six books, started, on the floor by my bed….Including One Poldark book, a couple of Ursula LeGuin’s I got for Christmas and something I just picked up from the library (oops, but its not fiction, Biography about the French Impressionists…) 🙂

Hi Hilda, I am not familiar with Ursula LeGuin. I will look her up on Amazon. I have a lot of art books that I have stacked up on my table too! 📚 I enjoyed hearing what you are reading! 😃

She’s very fantasy/sci-fi and has been writing since she was 8 (and now she’s about 90!!!) Look her up and see if she appeals to you or not….this blog post is a GREAT way to find out about new authors, Jill! Nice choice for this time of year too! I’m enjoying it too as I am always curious about what others are reading! 🙂

I lOVE books, I always have since I was a child, especially books with lots of pictures in… maybe that was the artist in me struggling to get out right back then. At the moment I’m not reading any fiction – I’m reading watercolour painting books, Jean Haines in particular….

I like books with lots of photos too, Evelyn. I have many craft/art books but haven’t read as much fiction like I used to when I was younger. Books are a great escape! I’m glad you are enjoying Jean Haines. 🎨📚👍

What a fun idea. I don’t read as much as I used to. Not by a long shot. As my eyesight has grown old and the smaller fonts got harder to read I lost a lot of joy in the printed page and turned to the computer. I held out for a long time turning to an eReader because I love the sound of opening a new book, and smell of the ink and paper. Even with reading glasses it’s not as enjoyable b/c my eyes get tired so much faster now.
So, I bought an eReader, but still don’t read as much as I used to.
As a kid I loved Madeline the series, and poem Twas a Night Before Christmas. I would read those over, and over again. Then as a teen I found Mysteries, and Sci-Fi, and more poets.
I still read mysteries, sci-fi, and poetry the most.
Right now I’m slowly reading Counterstrike by Joshua Dalzelle. It’s book 3 in a series, and Murder at the Bijou; Three Ingredients-I by Teagan Riordain Geneviene.
I love series books. I think it’s because if I like the characters I hate saying goodbye when the book ends. At least with a series I don’t have to as fast. 🙂
I haven’t been in a book club for a long, long time. I liked how it got me to broaden my scope. I never would have read some of the books we read if it I weren’t in the club.

Hi Deborah, I understand about the eyesight thing! My eyes get more tired too and I don’t like small print! 😳 I have an ereader too but I forget how to use it so I still buy books…😉 I do think an ereader is great for super heavy books though. And books cost less plus you don’t have to store them! 👍
I enjoyed hearing what you like to read! Funny how our childhoods affect what kind of books we like to read now. 😀 And series books are great! I struggle with being able to focus as I age so I need a book that grabs my attention. Your books sound intriguing. I will have to check them out on Amazon.
I haven’t been in a book club in quite some time either. I do miss having a group of people to share insights and thoughts about a book – plus I think I read more and different authors too. I thought I’d try to start with one book a month as this feels doable to me… And I want to keep track of what I read and what authors I enjoyed. Memory is not as good as it used to be either! Lol! 🙄 Enjoy your day! 📚
