I recently completed an online class from Anita Lehmann called, “Translating Landscapes.” The class was hosted by Carla Sonheim.
I am still learning so much from this class!! Anita is a wonderful teacher. She is also a licensed architect in Washington State.
Exploring the elements of design in landscape has helped me to SEE my subject in a different way. I am learning to see more abstractly as “shapes.”
We warmed up with a favorite subject of mine, PEARS! I enjoyed experimenting with a variety of art materials using the design elements on a 6 x 6 inch paper:
Next, I applied the design elements to my photo from the lake:
Here are my favorites from this exploration:
“Motive” combines several design elements into one design.

Cheers! 🙂
I love your zeal for ongoing learning and I learn from you!! Adore your pears!!!

Hi Sharon, I think you will enjoy her art. ❤️ Her paintings are quite spectacular as she uses big brushes and bold strokes in watercolor. She also likes birds! 🐦💕

I love your pears and landscapes they all came so differently. Your textured pears are really unique and lovely. I surprised myself by liking them so well.

Thank you Deborah, I like the textured pears too! I used a stencil and pan pastels to create the pattern. Pears are always a fun subject. I like how Anita explained them in her class, she said they are basically 2 circles with a stem and if you turn them upside down they become a bird. 😃🐦

I like the way she started by having you do the different effects on a simple subject so then you could translate it to a landscape, great way to learn! I admire your commitment to your classes, and you seem to get so much joy from them! I have to put myself on a schedule in January, I never seem to have time for art these days…I am going to do the monthly Doodlewash challenge I think to get back into the groove. Happy creating Jill!

Hi Jenna, I think blogging helps me create more art but also taking online art classes. 🎨❤️ A challenge is a good way to get back into creating more… The holidays can be such a busy time, I like your idea of starting in January. 😊 I look forward of sharing more from this class with you and everyone. I think you will like it! 💗
