I have been experimenting with Copic markers lately. I haven’t been a big fan of them in the past because the markers bleed through the paper.
I decided that I would give theses markers another chance.
I chose 140-lb hot press watercolor paper rather than a journal so I didn’t have to worry about the bleed through. I like how these markers dry evenly on my paper:
Next, I used Micron sepia .01 pen to accent shapes:
I used both .05 and .01 sized sepia ink pens to add my finishing details:
Here are the pen colors I used for this Copic doodle:
It was fun to experiment in colors I don’t normally use and leave some white space!
Have you used Copic markers? I’d love to hear your opinion about them.
Happy Friday!
Cheers! 🙂
Hi Jill, I like the transition from beginning to end. The colors become more alive with the sepia outline. I’ve not used the Copic markers. It might be time to give them try. Have a great weekend.

Hi Sharon, it is fun to see how the sepia pen changes the markers. I would like to get a few more colors of the Copics. 😊 Creating with the colors I had made it more challenging though! 🎨 Happy weekend to you too!

I have about fifteen Copics, and I like them, but I like Tombow, Prismacolor, Pantone and Ohuhu too…still haven’t figured out all the Copic hype…as for the bleed through, have you ever used marker paper? I has a protective coating on it that prevents bleed through. The surface is slick and it’s a different experience that a textured paper, pretty cool! I love your colorful zentangle Jill, really really nice work!

Thank you Jill, I can’t remember what brand it is, {I don’t have it with me right now} I got it from Dick Blick…I haven’t had a chance to do more than a couple drawings with it, I’m looking forward to experimenting!

beautiful! I’ve used copics in the past to get a “watercolory” effect when making cards with stamps and coloring them in. They can be used to create depth and shading, which makes them nice.

Hi Jodi, I know that Mary Engelbrecht uses Copics in her artwork (saw an online video one time). She also creates the look of watercolor with them. I’d love to learn how to shade with them better. I will have to see if there is a YouTube video available… thanks for the idea! 😍

I haven’t tried them, but I like the muted colors. The black over top works really well too. (K)
