Daddy Long-Legs

When I was at the lake over the weekend, a Daddy Long-Legs spider crawled on me… like this one I drew:

Other names for this spider are cellar, granddaddy long-legs, carpenter, daddy long-legger, vibrating and skull.

This spider is actually a Pholcidae and a family of the araneomorph spiders with 1800 species and found in every continent in the world except Antarctica!

I’m not afraid of this spider as it is harmless yet it’s name inspired me for today’s weird bird:

Birdy Long-Legs

Like a Daddy Long-Legs, this bird often hangs out in undisturbed areas like under rocks, loose bark or tall grasses and occasionally a lawn chair…

Perhaps you have seen one?

I hope you enjoyed learning a little about Daddy Long-Legs spiders as much as I did… However, I would rather enjoy them from a distance than on my neck!

Happy Weird Bird Wednesday!

Cheers! πŸ™‚

  3. I imagine the lawn chair species quite likes a cold beer.

  4. It’s the only spider I like and don’t mind them in the house as they eat mosquitoes. Nonetheless, I would have still screamed and been brushing it off as fast as I could. Ewwww! I would have needed a shower or been itchy all day long.

Love your bird’s long legs! I do love your Wednesday birds and so does #1 Grandson who is here this week! You know I’ll be sharing this with him too. xx

    • Hi Deborah, normally I would have screamed but I was relaxing and actually didn’t β€œsee” it… I felt something crawling on me and my husband brushed it off. 😯 I am not a big spider fan either! πŸ˜‰
Nice that #1 Grandson is visiting you! I hope he likes my weird bird! xo

  6. Another great bird!
I often see a Daddy Long Legs…they seem to like the kitchen. I remember “playing” with them as a child. Not sure they enjoyed it as much as I did! (K)

  8. I like your long-legged bird, but as for the Grand-daddy? I have another name for it. “Ugly Buggly” and I am terrified of them! My older sister chased me around the house with one when I was little, and even now I can’t see one without screaming and running! I know it’s an irrational fear, but I can’t help myself. Keep those ugly bugglies away from me, please! πŸ™‚

  13. Great inspiration! We call them Daddy long-leggers and as kids we would play with them and let them crawl on us. However, we were afraid of all other spiders! Nowadays, I want NO spiders, insects, etc. crawling on me. Hope you had a fabulous weekend, Jill, and that you are feeling well!
