Animal Sketches

I challenged myself recently to learn to draw different animals.

I started with collage paper scraps as hats in different shapes to keep it fun:

It helped me to start with animals that I was familiar from my imagination like the pig, cat and dog.

When I started with the gorilla, I used a real image online as inspiration.

I used pencil so I could erase if needed and I erased A LOT!

When I got frustrated, I drew a face of a girl! πŸ˜‰ It took me several nights to complete.

It helped me to remember to use basic shapes like the circles in my rabbit’s face below:

I think my animal sketches have character! Do you have a favorite?

Happy sketching!

Cheers! πŸ™‚

    Hello Jill,
I love how you describe the way you worked through these animal drawings! I often feel the same way! It is good to stick to a project and to walk through the difficult stages too. Your drawings are all very good and lovely! I think my favorite one is the little mouse (too cute!) followed by the bird! And all the hats are fantastic!
I am still working on my collage persons, slowly and in small time lapses! I experienced lots of frustrating moments too and at the same time I am glad I stick to it. I only read a few mails every day to have more time for my art. Hopefully I’ll post my collages on fb and ig one of these days!
So many exciting classes and so little time! I think I should take a break from all these classes next year and finish some of the old ones; but who can resist? …. and the new Anita Lehmann class is already lurking!
P.S.: Writing and illustrating a children’s book is a fantastic thing! I love children’s books and collect them!
Have a nice week with lots of creative time!

    • Thank you so much Suzanne for your kind comments. β€οΈπŸ’—πŸπŸ¦πŸŽ© I look forward to seeing your artwork from this class. I have decided not to take Anita’s class and work on this one and some others I am doing. It is hard to get it all done but I decided not to worry about it and just enjoy the process! 😘 Hugs! πŸ’•
