One of nature’s art subjects I enjoy drawing and painting…
Mushrooms!
Paper collage using Gelli-plate prints from old books:
When Pete Hillman recently posted a photo of Rosy Bonnet mushrooms…
I had to try drawing them in pencil and color pencils in my art journal:
Paper collage came next (first photo) and tomorrow, I hope to try watercolor!
I’m having fun exploring this mushroom in different art mediums…
Thanks Pete for the inspiration with your awesome photos!!
What art subjects from nature grab your attention?
Cheers! π
Very inspiring.

Wow. I had seen Pete’s recent photos of the pink mushrooms and when I saw your initial collage, I immediately thought of them. Imagine my shock when I continued reading your posting and saw that they had in fact served as inspiration for you. As I learned in Disney World, “It’s a small world after all.” π I loved seeing your pencil sketches too. As someone who can’t draw a straight line, I am in awe of those with the ability to draw natural subjects so realistically.

Thank you Mike! I am quite fond of mushrooms as they are so interesting – such variations!! π So when I saw Peteβs pink mushroom photos I had to draw them. I was quite pleased with the pencil drawing. After years of practice, it is nice when a drawing turns out! π¨π

The collage looks so mysterious… but I love the drawings too. (K)

I think the background is too busy on the collage. I had used a page from an old book on Trees but I think I got the paint too dark or perhaps the mushrooms need to be less busy? Will need to play around more with this idea. Thank you for your comments, Kerfe! ππ

I don’t think it’s too busy.

very cool Jill! I have always thought of mushrooms like little people, they have so much character and personality and no two are alike!

Hi Jenna, I like your description! πβ€οΈπ I tried to draw the mushrooms in different art mediums like you suggested when you are planning a painting. It really helped me to get a feel for my subject. I appreciate your insights! π¨π I thought Iβd start with one subject (two mushrooms) and then work on other individual plants I want to put in my painting. ππ
