As I wait for the doorbell to ring and costume-clothed kiddos arrive with pillow cases or plastic buckets to be filled with sweet treats, I review my October square-a-day project.
This month I tried to stick to a theme. Nature was my inspiration. Simple squares. Gelli-plate printed backgrounds. What do you think of having a nature theme?
I left my 5×7 inch Gelli-plate out on my art table for the entire month of October. This led to some wonderful explorations with acrylic ink and fluid acrylics. I also enjoyed printing on old book pages.
Below are some of my favorite squares:
I believe I am now supplied with as many prints as the kids whose buckets were overflowing with Halloween candy! π Sweet!!
I look forward to hearing which squares you like!
Happy November! Cheers! π
This has a wonderful autumn feel. My eye keeps going to the tree with the bluebird. (K)

Beautiful combination with interesting patterns. The pear is my favourite. Enjoy the weekend…a great one for being indoors for us as it is windy and we are getting a mix of rain and snow today. Cheers from π¨π¦

Hi Louise, thank you for mentioning the patterns… sometimes my focus is on color and it helps to see something else. β€οΈπ I really liked the pear too! The words were from a paint sample card, always good inspiration! π¨π Hard to believe it is November! Cold here today too! π―βοΈ

I adore working from nature. And now I am very curious about working with the Gelli-plate process.

Hi Laura Kate, there are a lot of good YouTube videos on gelli-printing. GelliArts.com also has some tutorials. You can also print on fabric which is super fun. I hope you give gelli-printing a try! πππ¨π

I love these! Do you sell or trade these little squares? I didn’t know if they acted like artist trading cards or something like that.

Hi Maranda, the squares are just for me. I am keeping them in a box for future inspiration. I might create a calendar with them too. I write notes on the back of what inspired me and what I did that day, etc. They are kind of like a diary. It is my daily dose of art! πβ€οΈπ¨π

I think nature is a wonderful theme Jill! There are so many options! I think my favorites were your mushrooms and those mushroom people, outstanding! My 11 yr old grandson got very interested in the inktober challenge and wanted to see my drawings everyday, and is going to do the November doodlewash challenge with me! I can’t wait to see how he interprets things! I love your idea of using squares, and for many of the inktober sketches I kept them very small. That is a challenge for me since I prefer to work BIG π What is your next project or challenge?

Thank you Jenna! π I really enjoyed drawing the mushrooms! Funny how one subject will stick in your mind! ππ So cool that your grandson is interested in doing the November Doodlewash challenge with you! β€οΈ I hope he will let you post some of his artwork. Iβd love to see it! ππ¨ I like doing the squares but some days it is hard to be inspired… π I think challenging ourselves is good though and sharpens our skills. You did fabulous with all your inktober sketches!!
I am thinking landscapes for November in a variety of art mediums! π

Thank you so much Patty for your kind comments! ππ The first square is a print of a Ginko leaf. I planted a Ginko tree in my yard because I love the shape of the leaf! π The tree has barely grown but I keep hoping it will take off one day! ππΏ

I like the mushrooms and the jack-o-lantern the best. But they are all wonderful in their own way.
