A Bird Shape?

I tried to paint a Hummingbird in watercolor for today’s post but it ended up in the trash! Oh, don’t worry, this happens sometimes. πŸ˜‰

So I went back to the basics – painting patterns in watercolor and getting comfortable with my brushes and trying different color combinations:

And look! A bird shape showed up!

When I haven’t painted in watercolor for awhile, I have to slow down and just PAINT without thinking about outcome.

I added pen on top of my watercolor in black Micron pen with a little white and gold gel pens. I like how the ink gives it some pizzazz!

I now have a page of patterns I can color copy and use in my collages.

What do YOU do when your art takes a different turn than you envisioned?

Happy Friday!

Cheers! πŸ™‚

  1. Enjoyed hearing about and seeing the evolution of your bird drawing, Jill. The message of our art always finds a way through to the surface.

  2. Best to follow the paint I find…and if necessary, recycle. I like your little bird nestled among the patterns. (K)

  7. It is amazing how we can get rusty after not using a medium for a while! I have really enjoyed the monthly challenges like inktober and Doodlewash, I have reconnected with my favorite ink, markers, watercolor and colored pencils and looking forward to my daily creation time! I always enjoy your fearless approach of changing directions and turning one thing into another! I have a friend that cuts up her failed watercolors and uses them for collage! It’s like the old saying, enjoy the journey! Have a great week Jill!

    • Hi Jenna, yes, it doesn’t seem to take long to get rusty! ☺️ I think part of my impatience was due to feeling frustrated with myself. Sometimes it means I need to take a break! πŸ˜‰πŸ’•
