Art Journal Prompts

I like to give myself art challenges.

Yesterday, I had a few minutes to experiment in my 9 x 12 inch Canson mixed media art journal.

I started by writing the date and drawing some random shaped boxes on my paper:

Next, I worked quickly so I wouldn’t overthink things.

I added paper collage, doodles and creative prompts to work on later such as a dictionary word and paint sample name:

I will show you my completed journal page later this week! I encourage you to create your own art journal prompts to get your creative juices flowing!

    I love the way you divided the page into different sized boxes…so different than staring at a blank page! I haven’t drawn in my sketchbook in a week 😱 and really miss it after doing daily drawings for Inktober and Doodlewash Nov. I finally have Christmas sort of in control, so I am hoping to get back to sketching today! I am going to try your method, thanks Jill 💕🎨🖋

      Hi Patty, I look forward to seeing what you do too! 😊It is a good way to practice doodle ideas or a quick drawing. I am also using it as a writing prompt. Gives me something to work on in the evenings. 🎨👍

    Like the idea and look forward to seeing the finished page. I’m thinking of going back to last year’s Christmas junk journal (a collaborative family effort) and adding to its pages. There’s plenty of room still!

      Hi Val, it is a way I often journal by adding the boxes. However, this time I changed it up a little so I had prompts to work on during my week. I will post my end result on Friday. 😀
