A Scribble Bird

I learned this technique from Carla Sonheim.

You start with a scribble…

And then you try to find something to create out of it. It kind of looks like a bunny, doesn’t it?

Of course I found a weird bird in it!

I added a few more lines to create my Scribble bird. Next, I colored it with Copic markers:

Then added color pencils and pencil shading:

Here is a mouse I did previously in my art journal:

I challenge you to find an animal or bird in a simple scribble!

Happy Weird Bird Wednesday!

Cheers! 🙂

  1. So fun Jill! Yes, I did see a bunny, but I love how you turned it into a weird bird! I also love how you added colored pencils to shade the markers, that’s one of my favorite techniques. I LOVE the mouse!!

  2. I love this Jill! I’ve done paint swatch cats. This would be a fun exercise to do on the deck with a glass of wine now that it’s getting warmer.

  4. Cute scribbles. Once I did a scribble where I was instructed to close my eyes, lower the pencil to the paper and scribble. Then I was to paint an “angel” out of whatever scribble happened.

  12. I love your Scribble bird, with his cheerful colouring! When I have a moment, I’ll blog you a gallery of weird creatures that I drew back at the end of 2020.

  13. That is so fun. I need someone to do the scribble, though. Have you considered starting a prompt? Would be so fun.
