Glow Worm

Last Friday, I showed you the beginning of this journal page:

I added a drawing of a weird looking bug and then discovered the dictionary definition for a Glow Worm on my page.I decided to explore this idea further.

Next, I added some acrylic paint and colored part of my bug with Tombow markers:

I added some interesting facts about a Glow Worm to my page and finished coloring my “beetle” wearing a hat… why not! 😉

I enjoyed learning something new while playing in my art journal.

Cheers! 🙂

P.S. I have decided to blog 1-2 days a week. I will be posting on Mondays and possibly Wednesday. I will be posting more on Instagram where you can find me at art_jill_kuhn

Earmarked

I finished my beetle doodle that I started recently. I enjoyed working on it in the evenings.

I enjoyed adding gold ink in addition to black ink:

I started another story in my art journal. Perhaps you remember; Meet Linda and Bob – Part 2

This one is earmarked for more word play! I am using a thesaurus for my story prompts this time.

I plan to show my completed journal page this Friday… I hope you will earmark this post!

Cheers! 🙂

A Beetle Doodle

I have been sorting through closets and cupboards in my home this past weekend.

It feels good to get things better organized. I have discovered that I have too many hobbies however… and I need to get rid of a few as they are cluttering my mind.

Any suggestions? How do YOU get rid of art supplies you are no longer using?

In the evenings, I have been working on a beetle doodle:

I am using gold pen in addition to black ink. I noticed that REAL beetles tend to have an iridescent shine.

I cannot remember ever working on a symmetrical pattern. It is a bit more challenging. 😉

What did YOU do this past weekend? I hope you share it with me.

Cheers! 🙂

P.S. I will show you my finished beetle doodle when it is complete!

Walking Stick

I recently discovered the imaginative art of Stefan G Bucher.

Stefan drew a daily monster for years. If you’d like to see some of his art, he has a couple of YouTube videos. Google his name to find them. His art is also on Instagram.

His method of creating monsters with ink and a compressed can of air inspired my Walking Stick:

Did you know that Walking Stick insects are also known as stick insects, stick bugs or bug sticks?

My insect is a little on the strange side but that makes it all the more interesting to me!

Happy Creating!

Cheers! 🙂

A “Bug” In My Bonnet

I enjoyed my blogging break for the last two weeks… Although I couldn’t stay away from reading so many of your creative blogs! 😃

I am looking forward to a new month… December is here! And Christmas is just around the corner… Hoorah!

Someone put a “bug” in my bonnet in the last couple of weeks and I have been drawing these bugs from my imagination:

I started with their imaginary “hats” from my Gelli-printed papers or copies of my own artwork.

I drew my imaginary bug in pencil before adding permanent pen.

There is something wonderful about creating from your imagination. It is so freeing!

Lastly, I added color pencils to give these bugs a little pizzazz…

Which bug(s) do you like?

Cheers! 🙂
