Grumpy Cat

My cat loves to be outside during the summer months when the weather is warmer.

But yesterday evening he got trapped (briefly) inside the garage…

He was one grumpy cat!  😦

Carla Sonheim recently gave an assignment in her 365 video class – day #177 –  to draw several quick one-liner cats and my grumpy Jack cat appeared!  Lol!

Happy Drawing!  🙂

Instant Summer

Seems our weather in the Pacific Northwest has gone from a cool Spring to above 80 degrees in one day!  Ugh!!  I do like warmer weather but prefer gradual increases in temperatures…

Here is a doodle I did a while ago but I haven’t posted yet:

My cat loves the sunshine but even he was too hot to be outside this afternoon!  Lol!

Happy Friday!

Cheers! 🙂

Dear Mom…

A friend’s mom was having a birthday and asked for postcards with cats to wish her a happy day.  It was easier for me to use postcards that were cut and ready for art.

I decided to combine collage using gelli-printed paper and Neocolors water-soluble crayons (since they happened to be next to me.)  Here are the ones I did for her mom:

They were so much fun to make that I decided to create several for my mother-in-law too!  She loves flowers! 🌷

I know I enjoy receiving cards in the mail so I think she will too.  I will make several in advance so I can mail one a week.

Who do you know that would love to receive a postcard in the mail with your art?

Cheers!  🙂

The Daily Mews 🐾

I created this in my art journal on Tuesday.  Carla Sonheim gave us the assignment for her year-long online class to create a headline describing our day.  I decided to write it from my cat’s perspective.

I went online to fodey.com to create my fake newspaper article.  It was a lot of fun!  I typed it on the computer too because I thought it may be difficult to read in my post.

I think a fake newspaper article would make a fabulous one-of-a-kind greeting card for someone!

Cheers!  🙂

P.S.  Jack said to tell you, “I hope you keep your paws dry today!”

One Sugar Lump Or Two?

I really like “Random Pick” drawing days in Carla Sonheim’s year long online class this year.  She chooses two words from a container and you get to draw, paint or write a poem with the prompts.

Yesterday, the words were mouse and cup.  So this is what I drew in pencil and then added black micron pen:

Next, I added color with my watercolor pencils from Faber-Castell:

I recommend you write your own prompts and put them in a jar.  It is a great way to generate creative ideas when you feel stuck in an art rut.

Cheers!  🙂

Mixaphors

What is a mixaphor?  No, it isn’t an adult beverage…

It is mixing a metaphor which is a figure of speech that leaps from one identification to a second one and is inconsistent from the first one.  Sound confusing?  Well, it can be and that is the goal with a Mixaphor to create confusion instead of a fusion of effects.

Here is my example of a mixaphor:

I encourage you to mix up your metaphors today!  If anything it will give you a chuckle or two!

Some days it’s fun to be a horse of a different color dancing to his own drummer…

Cheers!  🙂

Cooking for Cats

I realize this is Weird Bird Wednesday but today’s show post has been interrupted by this NEW cooking show…

img_9731

Well, it DOES have a bird in it and it IS weird so I guess it counts!! Lol!

Cheers!  🙂

P.S. What do you call a cat who eats lemons?  A sourpuss  😉

One Colorful Cat!

I did this quick sketch of a cat tonight in pencil then added a sketchy black outline with a Pitt pen and finished it with watercolors…

It is one colorful cat!

Laura at Create Art Everyday  introduced me to this awesome book on Drawing Animals:

It made sketching a cat enjoyable for the first time in my life!  🙂

Wishing you all a Meowy Christmas!!

Cheers!  🙂

Running Backwards

Do you remember what it felt like when you ran backwards as a child?  It was fun at first  but then I’d get disoriented and dizzy.  Life reminds me a little of this experience lately…

I’m trying to train a new employee at work which is exciting at first but then starts to feel a bit overwhelming!  And there is my never ending domestic duties!  😉  It is getting more difficult to find time to create art and blog which I totally enjoy!  So I’m starting to feel a bit dizzy…  ;-0

I’m going to have to take a little break.  Just until next Wednesday – when Harold reveals his surprise (see yesterday’s post).

I hope I can catch up with what is going on in your blogs during this time!  🙂

Cheers!  🙂

Scrappy Cats

It is fun to create animals with scrap pieces of paper.  These cat shapes I did with scraps of gelli-printed papers and text from old books:

I added some pencil shading and a few finishing touches:

Do you have a favorite?  I hope you share it with me!  🙂

And here is a photo of my happy cat, Jack from this summer – lying in the cool grass:

Hope you are having a lazy cat kind of day!

Cheers Friends!!  🙂
