First Blooms

The Buttercups are in bloom!!

My husband picked these flowers from the forest near our home.

The arrival of sweet, golden Buttercups must mean Spring is on its way in the Pacific Northwest. Hurrah!

I wrote this haiku to celebrate these first blooms in my art journal:

Golden petals show,

Announcing Spring’s arrival,

A forest treasure.

Next, I added quick mini collages. I enjoy experimenting with color combinations, texture and balance.

I was able to get outside and take two short walks this weekend. My hip is doing great!

I hope you are all staying well.

Cheers! 🙂

Windows Into Time…

My husband’s mother has dementia and her memory is declining quickly.

It is difficult to visit her at the facility where she lives but she is always happy to see us.

I did this grid in my art journal using some of the blue-toned printed paper I showed you yesterday:

And as I was photographing the pieces of paper where I had punched out my squares, they reminded me of windows:

The book page I gelli-printed on and used in my grid was about flowering plants from an old botany book. My MIL loved planting flowers.

I wrote this haiku with her on my mind –

Windows into time…

Squares of golden moments shine,

Fading with memory.

Cheers! 🙂

Petals Fade

We had a sunny day mixed with rain yesterday. I took this photo of a rose bush in my yard.

I thought it was beautiful how the rain droplet was held within its petals like arms holding onto the end of summer.

It inspired me to write a haiku:

Last bloom before frost?

Petals fade but one remains…

Unfolding with hope.

May you find hope in the beauty that surrounds you.

Cheers! 🙂

A Knockout Bloomer

The garden centers are bursting with blooms!  This gave me the idea for today’s weird bird and haiku:

Spring garden extras,

Bird from a floral family…

Summer Clouds Reflect

Summer clouds reflect,

Another season ending…

Autumn’s chill arrives.

My hubby and I went kayaking Saturday before the big chill arrived at the lake.  The early morning rain shower on Sunday brought a new layer of cool autumn air.

We close up at the lake soon.  I always feel a little sad to see another summer season end…

We feel blessed to have so many wonderful memories and seasons with our friends at the lake!

Cheers to good memories! 🙂

P.S. What memories do you cherish with friends?  I hope you share them with me! ❤️

Bird One And Bird Two

I thought I’d change things up a bit for weird bird Wednesday…

And drew a couple of birds, Dr. Seuss style:

Bird 1 and Bird 2…

A Suess hatching at the zoo,

Double fun for you!

I hope your Wednesday is happy times two!

Cheers Friends! 🙂

Opposites Attract…

Opposites attract…

You say blue and I say orange,

Love is color blind…

When I was creating my hearts yesterday, I noticed how cool to match two different heart “halves” to create a whole.

It reminded me of my hubby and I… he says, “Blue,” and I say, “Orange!”  So true!! Lol! ☺️

And yet we will be married 34 years in May!  😮 Seems like just yesterday that we said, “I do!”

If you were to combine two different hearts together, what would it look like?!

Cheers! ❤️

Cat Napping

Comfy warm blanket…

Black cat sleeping on the couch,

Move over kitty!

I thought my watercolor pattern from my last post looked like a fabric quilt so I painted an image of my black cat, Jack with Sumi ink on a separate piece of paper.  I cut out his shape, added some shading and placed him on the pattern.

Seems like a good day for a cat nap, how about you?

Cheers! 🙂

Nature’s Confetti

I took these photos, last Saturday when I took A Walk In The Park

I hope to paint some of these trees in watercolor but work has been extra busy this week …

So for now, I wrote a haiku to share with these photos:

Things are looking up!

Fall leaves scatter unaware…

Nature’s confetti

Isn’t it wonderful how nature helps us notice the simple pleasures in life and celebrate its beauty?!

Carnivals, Clouds And Cats

My blog title sounds like it could be part of the lyrics from Joni Mitchell’s song, “Both Sides Now.”  😉

However, my post today does involve some illusions… and imaginary fish!

The Carnival Fish was created by making copies of my “Bearded Hat Fish,” that you can find here:  What Rhymes With Weird?!   My copier was about out of ink so the fish is more yellow in color than my original.

I made two copies of my fish and lined up the images together in one stack.  I then cut 1/2 inch strips being careful to keep my images in the order of my design.  Next, I glued the two exact image strips next to each other on a piece of heavier paper with a glue stick.  This gives it the affect that reminds me of the mirrors in a carnival thus the name.

The Cloud Fish reminded me of the lazy days of summer and seeing shapes in the clouds…  My haiku says, “Lazy Cloud fish swim, Above the sea in blue skies, Slowly passing by.”

IMG_3373

I created it with color pencils and Copic markers.  What other images do you see in the clouds beside the fish?

My Jack Fish is a drawing of my cat, Jack – you can see a photo of him here: Why A Cat Needs An Umbrella    My cat loves to eat canned cat food – especially FISH!  (No, he doesn’t actually eat the whole fish but it makes for a good drawing.) Lol!

IMG_3376

There actually is a REAL fish called a Jack fish!  Did you know that?!

I hope you enjoyed my imaginary fish!  Maybe they will inspire you to create with your imagination.

Cheers! 🙂
