Raining Fish

Well, it isn’t exactly raining fish but we FINALLY got some rain last night!  YAY!!

I took this photo of a dark cloud from my deck last evening with promise of more rain:

I thought you may enjoy seeing my “fresh catch of creative fish” that I have posted on Instagram recently:

I have been trying different art mediums – the shadows were an unexpected surprise in this one:

And I’m enjoying mixing in some humor:

Trying my hand at watercolor in my art journal:

And creating a silly paper collage:

Happy Weird Bird Wednesday with a Fish twist!!

Some Strange Fish

When I was a child, I’d often wondered what strange fish were swimming in the dark blue lake water below me…

A person’s imagination can go wild!! Lol! 😉

Starting from the top of the page to the bottom – what names of fish do you come up?  I hope you share them with me!

Cheers! 🙂

Mustache or Beard?

Perhaps you remember the Beard Fish?  If not, you can find it here, What Rhymes With Weird?!

Today I have another weird FISH:  The Mustache fish:

And create a fish a day!!

The FISH art project begins September 1st through October 31st – which gives one a couple of days to “throw out the net” but let one or two “fish” art projects escape!

As I posted previously, you can find it here:  Fishing – A couple of friends and I created this mixed media art challenge for fun!

I will be posting on Instagram with the hashtag: #create50fish if you want to join in!!

Happy Fishing!  🙂

A Sizzling Bird

A sassy Sash bird sizzles in the scorching summer sun:

With temps into the high 90’s this week in the Pacific Northwest… this bird is not the only one feeling the heat!

Happy Weird Bird Wednesday!

Stay Cool!  🙂

A Feature Creature – Part 2

I had so much FUN reading your names of my “exotic” creatures last Monday that I decided to create five MORE for you to name!!  In case you missed last week’s post, you can find it here; A Creature Feature – Part 1

So here is your assignment, if you choose to participate… NAME creatures 6-10 or ALL 10 if you missed last week!

IMG_3023

I can’t wait to hear your creative names!! 😃

For this round of imaginary creatures I used pencil for shading and added details with Prismacolor pencils instead of an ink pen.  Do you have a favorite creature?

Cheers! 🙂

P.S. My heart goes out to all of you affected by Hurricane Harvey in the area of Houston, Texas.  Stay safe!

This Bird Takes The Cake!

Have you heard of Sponge Bob, Square Pants?

Well, today’s weird bird rose in popularity in the 1930’s and was discovered recently in this old book:

IMG_3010

According to Wikipedia, “Sponge Cake is based on flour, sugar, butter and eggs and is sometimes leavened with baking powder.  It has a firm yet well-aerated structure, similar to a sea sponge…”

Sponge Cake (Bird) AKA Pound Cake

One never knows when or where this diva bird may appear… but it is usually when one is watching their waistline.

Happy Weird Bird Wednesday!

Cheers!  🙂

Fishing

I remember fishing with my family as a young child.  When we went in my dad’s boat on the lake, we would sit for hours (or so it seemed) without the fish taking a bite… talk about BORING!!  🙄

When I was a teenager, we started creek fishing which was much more EXCITING!  😃  We could actually SEE the fish swimming in the creek water.  And we caught fish!  Hooray!!  I recall how wonderful they tasted knowing I caught them! 👍

Two of my sweet friends from Germany and I are going on our own CREATIVE, fishing expedition starting September 1st and you are welcome to join us if you’d like!  🐡

My goal is to create 50 mixed media fish and post mainly on Instagram.  However, a fish or two may swim onto a blog post! 😮

I started experimenting with materials and here is a fish appetizer for you:

I will show you my fish finding tools on Friday.  I hope you join me!

Cheers!  🙂

Shoebill’s Cousin

There is actually a bird – a stork, called the Shoebill.  It is named a Shoebill because its beak looks like a shoe, I kid you not!  I hope you look it up!  It is also known as a Whalehead… 😮  I will save that image for another day.

I created Shoebill’s cousin for today’s Weird Bird Wednesday, this is the Bootbill bird:

IMG_2923

It is also known as the Shoemaker bird because the definition for boot was already used!  😉

It reminds me of some of my earlier bird creations wearing hats and shoes – you can find one of them here.

I hope you don’t give my weird bird the boot!! Lol!

Cheers!  🙂
