Hiccups…

Did you know that the longest attack of hiccups according to Guinness Medical Record breakers was 68 years?!

“Charles Osborne of Anthon, Iowa started hiccuping while attempting to weigh a hog before slaughtering it in 1922… he was unable to find a cure and continued until February 1990.”

Today’s weird bird has a case of the hiccups…

How do you recommend he get rid of them?

Happy Weird Bird Wednesday!

Cheers! 🙂

A Weird Bird?!

Sometimes a weird beast shows up unexpectedly…

This weird bird did not want to be a bird after all but something completely different!

Can YOU name it?!

This was so fun to create, you may be seeing more weird beasts showing up…

Happy Weird Bird Wednesday!

Cheers! 🙂

Cats And Doodles

My cat, Jack wouldn’t eat this weekend.  Three agonizing days were spent trying to get him to eat!  Sigh…

Finally, a fresh can of tuna was the winner!  Hooray!!

Sometimes life catches us off guard and we must find ways to unwind… like this doodle I started awhile ago…

I completed it this weekend when I needed a distraction from a sick cat:

I’m so thankful the cat is back to his old self and now I can start a new doodle!

A House Finch

Today’s weird bird enjoys her quiet time in the early morning…

This House Finch is wearing a matching housecoat, hat and slippers… Perhaps she purchased it at an early bird sale? 🙂

She likes waking up early to a quiet household to enjoy a special cup of house blend seeds.

Happy Weird Bird Wednesday!

Cheers! 🙂

Her Heart Overflowed

Her heart overflowed with love…

She felt grateful for this gift…

So she gave it away freely!

I think LOVE is a gift that I can give away “freely”…  How about you?

And the funny thing about this gift, the more I give it away, the MORE I get in return!

Cheers! 🙂

Feeling Thankful

Hearts possessing,

With thy blessing…

Giving Thanks!

Thank you for all your likes and comments on my blog!

Happy Weird Bird Wednesday and Thanksgiving for those celebrating!

Mask It!

I tried a new technique on the Gelli-Plate last week that I learned from Carla Sonheim.  You can find out more about my mask series here, Making Masks!

I did this technique on a 5 x 7 inch Gelli-Plate using Golden Fluid Acrylic paint.

I created my pattern by folding a piece of copy paper in half and cutting the paper with scissors.  I laid it directly on the Gelli-Plate without applying paint first.  I have always put paint on the Gelli-Plate before my pattern so this was a new concept for me.

Next, I placed about a quarter-sized dab of paint directly on top of my pattern used a brayer to spread the paint evenly over my design.  Note:  The copy paper pattern ripped when I applied paint on the top of it so I learned to use thicker paper such as cardstock to mask it for future projects.

After I let the paint completely dry in about 10 minutes, I removed the paper pattern carefully from my Gelli-Plate.

Next, I added a contrasting color of acrylic paint directly on my printing plate with the brayer and and placed a 9 x 12 inch sheet of Fabriano hot press, 90 lb paper on top, pressing over the paper with a clean brayer on the back of my paper.

Important step:  Let paper rest until the paint dries for an additional 10 minutes.

After the paint dried, I pulled my print slowly from the Gelli-Plate:

I decorated my print with Posca paint pens, Uniball Signo white pen and a black Micron pen.

I’m not sure that I’m done decorating this one, but I thought you may enjoy seeing it.

I hope you enjoyed seeing my process.  I made other masks with this technique that I hope to share with you soon.

Cheers! 🙂

So Noted…

I have discovered two fabulous ways to get one’s creative juices flowing as warm-up exercises in art making.

I learned these ideas from Anita Lehmann in her online class, Translating Landscapes, hosted by Carla Sonheim.

The first idea involves creating marks with a variety of art mediums and tools.  One “natural” tool was a stick!  I had so much fun dipping a stick into ink and “making marks” with it… And using a variety of materials to create this piece:

The second idea was making marks while listening to music.  I created this piece while listening to Eva Cassidy and Natalie Merchant:

I enjoyed both exercises.

So noted, my favorite was the one with the music!

I encourage you to turn up the music and create!

Cheers! 🙂

Matching Outfits

I remember how my grandma made my sis and I matching outfits as kids.  My sister is two years older than me.

Sometimes these memories come to me when I’m making art.  Does this happen to you?

I created this art in my sketchbook last night. I started by glueing a stocking hat and sweater for a dog from one of my Gelli-plate printed papers.

I then drew my girl’s face.  Next, I glued her vest and pants to the paper.  Kind of reminds me of paper dolls… I drew her arms and boots around her collaged “clothes” and the dog around his “sweater” from my imagination…

The proportions are a bit off on my girl but I like the dog! Lol! ☺️  And the poem I wrote reminds me of my childhood and how much fun we used to have playing in the snow.

I have always thought it would be fun to have a little dog to dress up in matching outfits!

Cheers! 🙂

P.S. The child in me wishes it would snow but the adult says, “Please, only in the mountains!  I don’t want to drive in it!” 😉

I’d Rather Be…

I’d rather be…

Snorkeling in Hawaii with this weird bird:
