A Three-Ring Circus Bird

I was experimenting with different collage papers the other day and decided to add watercolor around the glued papers.

Some of the papers I used were from Sharon Mann, when we did our collage paper exchange.  If you missed that post, you can read more about it here:  The Speedball Bird

Other papers were from my own collage experiments that I had sewn on my sewing machine and then printed on the Gelli-Plate.

I made two tags for my art journal and found they had a “circus” feel to them:

That is how today’s weird bird came to be… He is from the “Flying Circus!” 😉

A Three-Ring Circus Bird

I used Sharon Mann’s collage papers for this bird!  Thanks again Sharon! 🙂

I finished my “circus” tags with a few pen doodles:

Do you have happy memories from attending a circus?  I hope you share them with me!

Happy Weird Bird Wednesday!

Cheers! 🙂

Collage Exploration

I recently purchase this book from Amazon:

71D81A81-2E61-4365-9887-CF3AD7380D2C

It has some fabulous ideas that have sparked my imagination!

Such as this collage exploration:

It was inspired by the recent “winter storm” we got over the weekend!

Yesterday, I did some organizing of my art supplies.  It inspired me to create these three collages that I glued in my art journal:

Each collage above has hand-stitching, can you find it?

Cheers! 🙂

A Little Doo-da-ling

My title sounds like a silly song!

I started this little doo-da-ling…

When I was in a moo-da-ling…

I hope to show you my finished doodle next week!

Happy Weekend…

Cheers! 🙂

Wildly Beautiful

Today’s weird bird is…

Wildly beautiful!

I used packing tape to copy partial images from clothing catalogs and other magazines.

Below is one more… a lady and her little dog:

It was fun to use different dress descriptions from a clothing catalog and make them into one!

I hope these collages give you a smile today!

Happy Weird Bird Wednesday!

Cheers! 🙂

The Speedball Bird

Sharon Mann at MakeArtMagicHappens and I recently exchanged hand-painted collage papers.  It was so fun to get Sharon’s delightful, creative papers in the mail! 🙂

We thought it would be fun to share the papers we received from each other today AND create a wacky, weird bird with our new papers!

Below is my bird as it developed next to Sharon’s gorgeous papers…

I added pencil shading to give my bird dimension.  I love the bright colors Sharon used in her papers here:

Sharon creates in a wonderful variety of shapes, patterns and playfulness in her papers (can you find the bird?!)

Adding the final touches, can you find the 3 pen nibs I collaged to the bird’s feathers?

Sharon makes her “pen and ink” drawings sing like the color collage in the middle:

I finished my bird by adding color pencils:

I encourage you to share your art with a friend.  It may open up new ideas and possibilities!

Happy Weird Bird Wednesday!

Cheers! 🙂

P.S. Thank you Sharon for this fun exchange and challenge!  I enjoyed it soooo much!

A Bookworm Bird…

Strange Inventions…

It is fun to glue shapes on paper and see what appears, like this collage in my art journal:

Sometimes adding doodles with a black pen helps me work through life’s problems.

ff033418-e0d5-4bb6-9909-7bd50f5bb574

Yesterday, these strange inventions appeared!

I wish the medical field could invent a cure for dementia… My hubby’s mom is really struggling with this terrible disease.  And we struggle finding her good care.

Sometimes it is these strange creatures or inventions that show up when I need a smile.

I hope this whimsy brings a smile to your day as well!

Cheers! 🙂

It’s A Splash!

I have been doing these mini collages in my art journal that start by glueing a piece of paper randomly on a page and then going back and adding to it until it feels like it is done.

It reminds me of solving a puzzle.

Here is one I just started:

0eabbd51-8095-4993-921a-6a9e51c8384f

I hope to show you how I complete it next week!

The one below, I started with the brown piece of kraft paper that I previously printed on the Gelli plate:

174b1658-00d2-44bc-bcdd-265cd20e1d2f

I added the tree and then got the idea to add the image of a child and a growth chart.

I started with the gray image from a magazine underneath the “water circus” image for this one:

b0c8fb00-e66b-49ba-b659-755022e4139d

From there, I added the buoy paper, etc.  I finished it with the rubber stamped letters to balance out the fish.

It IS a splash to create collage this way!! I hope you give me a try and tell me what you think!

Cheers! 🙂

A MuuMuu Bird

Today’s weird bird is often found in the tropics where the weather is warm and there is no snow…

A MuuMuu Bird

According to Wikipedia.com; the word, mu’umu’u (pronounced mu:mu) means “cut-off” in Hawaiian because the dress originally lacked a yoke.

If you ever see a MuuMuu bird let me know!

Happy Weird Bird Wednesday!

Cheers to tropical breezes and sunshine if only in my imagination! 🙂

I Spy… Collage!

As many of you know, I LOVE taking online art classes!!

When Carla Sonheim announced her year-long class for 2019 would be Collage, I had to sign up! 🙂  You can find out more about it at CarlaSonheim.com or CarlaSonheim.wordpress.com

I introduced myself on the private Facebook group by cutting out letters to my name from a color copy of this collage I showed you here:  And That’s How…  I really enjoy the wonderful community of artists who take Carla’s online classes.

77c81ac5-803f-4a01-93b4-e5ce43708bcf

Carla will be teaching along with two other fabulous artists:  Lynn Whipple and Anne Marie Grgich.  Class starts today!  Hoorah!

Below is a collage I created with paper scraps in my art journal:

df36c4e8-fa49-4d56-b462-2b20b0615cde

I spy…

A bird,

A dictionary word,

Two pages from a shorthand book,

And some fish lure hooks,

A child wearing a blue coat,

And three scraps of music notes,

There is more to find, like #441,

Collage is fun for everyone!

Can you find all these items in my collage?

I hope you will consider joining me in this FUN online class!

Cheers! 🙂
