A Treehouse

I’ve been moving scraps of collage papers around on a piece of paper which reminds me of looking for animals in fluffy clouds…

It is a simple exercise for generating new ideas and quite satisfying! 😉

Do you see a treehouse?

How about a picnic in the park?

And of course, this weird bird showed up!  He is only a day late… so I anchored him down with tape.  I didn’t want him flying off!

If you are ever in a creative rut I suggest you give this idea a try!

I’d love to hear what YOU see in these paper scraps!  Please share!

Cheers! 🙂

P.S. As a child, I created a lot of “forts” which were all on ground level…sigh.

Smart Picks…

I promised to show you a project using my collaged color wheels from last week:  A Slice of Color, Please!

I was looking through a magazine and these smart picks showed up while making this silly collage:

FCB1D3D1-A426-4880-B95E-C70E99B47404

Did you know that peas contain a type of antioxidant that may protect against inflammatory-related diseases?

After making this collage, I had peas for dinner last night! Lol!

Pass the peas, please!

Cheers! 🙂

What’s On Your Plate?

I cleaned off my collage table recently and discovered new weird bird possibilities on this small plate of scraps:

Today’s bird is everything but the kitchen sink… I mean, basin!

I wonder, what’s on your plate of creativity today?!  Please share!

Happy Weird Bird Wednesday!

Cheers! 🙂

If The Shoe Fits…

Today’s weird bird is a “shoo-in” to tickle your funny bone! Hahaha!

After all, if the shoe fits…

You will want to wear a smile!

Which “shoe-bill” fits you?

Happy Weird Bird Wednesday!

Cheers! 🙂

Short And Stout

Today, I have two squabby (short and stout) weird birds…

D649DCA9-589A-4064-82F9-D78A1EAEDD54

Who seem to be having a squabble (petty quarrel) under the rhubarb.

My rhubarb plant is going to seed…  But I think it is kind of beautiful!

Did you know that rhubarb is “slang” for quarrel or squabble?

Happy Weird Bird Wednesday!

Cheers! 🙂

P.S. As I am willing to risk more and put my art out into the world, I am also more at risk for other people to criticize my art.  How do you handle criticism in your art making or life?  I hope you share your wisdom with me!  Thanks!

A Knockout Bloomer

The garden centers are bursting with blooms!  This gave me the idea for today’s weird bird and haiku:

Spring garden extras,

Bird from a floral family…

A Facial

Last week, I started this paper collage from an advertisement image in a magazine:

46043258-CC49-4F09-B292-6591B51B7680

I started “mapping” the face with light and dark values.  I learned this technique from Lynn Whipple in The Year of The Collage, hosted by Carla Sonheim.

Next, I added magazine patterns and colors by the values (think paint by numbers!)

At first, my gal looked like she was getting a facial!

But in the end, she looked more like an exotic princess!

907CC96B-5DFB-49FA-8264-1C39A72B4C26

She took awhile to complete; many layers of paper, glue stick and patience!

Can you find all four pheasants from the used bird book I showed you in my last post?

Cheers! 🙂

Just Featured…

Sometimes I create drawing challenges for myself to make it more fun…

I created these faces by not filling in all the features with a Micron ink pen:

D19E9A79-EA1C-456B-849C-E09AE97FAA59

Next, I copied my original drawing and completed the faces on copy paper.  I created a couple of animals too!

5DC5C5A2-B951-440F-9346-5118485D686C

I couldn’t stop at just one sketch, kind of like eating popcorn while watching a movie! Who can eat just one bowl! 😉

FF1E9E3E-785C-4006-82BE-34529EF3683C

Just featured was very entertaining.  I hope you give it a try with your own drawings.

19BDC8C0-95EF-468C-9299-2311882AB516

And if you are unhappy with a drawing, you can just cut it out of the picture!

It is a super fun way to develop a character or perhaps tell a story.

Who will you create?

Cheers!

Hello May!

I’m so excited to show you my April squares!

4AE61CBB-18EB-4B1C-8FFB-0CBA90E33648

I’d love to hear what squares inspire YOU!

Hello May!  So happy that warmer weather is on the way…

May brings weekends at the lake and reuniting with our lake friends…

Mother’s Day and celebrating with my MIL…

Celebrating 35 years of marriage with my husband… WHOOT!

And redecorating our bedroom and bath! (Our anniversary gift to each other, we have lived in our home for 22 years… wow, time does fly!)

What does May bring for you?

Cheers! 🙂

A Ladder Bird

I have a Limerick for today’s weird bird.

0C891B81-D987-46EF-9B13-D5DDE72121DB

There once was a Ladder bird named Delores,

Whose neck was long like a Brachiosaurus,

She rose to the top,

Chirping nonstop,

When voted most successful in the chorus!

May you sing nonstop today like Delores!

Happy Weird Bird Wednesday!

Chirp, Chirp! 🙂
