Autumn’s Display

Fall was in the air this last weekend at the lake!

I always like when the wild rose hips turn a blushing reddish-orange:

I did a pencil sketch of them in my journal:

I enjoyed taking these photos of Autumn’s Display to share with you:

Chasing The Sun

My hubby and I spent many hours chasing the sun this last weekend at the lake in our boat:

A feeling of Fall was definitely in the air…

A2CD7171-662C-46A7-B609-39D57FF1576B

The lake water temperature had dropped about 6-8 degrees to about chilly 62 degrees… in only two weeks, making jumping in the water, a very brisk dip:

We spent a lot of time changing clothes… between the warm sun, coolness of the clouds and the occasional breeze:

Seems like Fall wasn’t the only “change” going on! Lol! 😉

Wishing you a sunny day!

Wildfire Season

Smoldering sun glows, we cannot breathe…

Thick gray smoke, blankets the sky.

No rain forecasted, we cannot see…

Wild fires blaze, trees and homes burn.

5D82CD8E-2041-4F2A-8115-8AA87CF845FF

Devastation seen, we cannot touch…

Sparks ignite, wildfire season.

The air quality has been at a hazardous level where I live in the Pacific Northwest.  I took these photos yesterday at the lake in Northern Idaho.

We seem to be surrounded by the thick smoke everywhere… lake and home.  Looks like I will be spending much of my time indoors this week. 😉

I’m so thankful for the firefighters who continue to fight for your forests and homes… yet we badly need rain.

Hope you stay safe…

Cheers! 🙂

Rocking It…

OK, I agree, my title is a bit punny for one of the last five watercolors I did in July:

D14BF693-85BA-4178-B22C-A779628A098A

Next, I decided to expand my horizons (so to speak) and painted this landscape:

510FDAFA-2855-4BB0-8ABF-B287C859F99C

Not a subject I normally paint, so I was pleased with it… below is my reference photo I used from a photo I took of a nearby creek:

AA2E8955-D65A-41A7-8429-C0702B06960C

We recently had a full moon that inspired these summer stars:

I enjoyed playing with a dagger brush and different color combinations for them.

Time was short so I experimented to create this fantastic feather:

DC289750-0184-47A7-8E06-E4A94669A0C8

I used a straw to blow wet pools of watercolor paint and gold acrylic ink to give it some pizazz!  The collaged letter, “F” I created from one of my leftover watercolor circles from a previous project.

I ended my last painting for July with this door and quote:

799073E8-51B9-4D56-88F0-5CD32A0E82F4

I was ready to close the “door” on this project and start something new!

Thank you ALL for your encouragement on this month’s project, as always, I appreciate your kind comments and likes of support… it means so much to me!

Cheers! 🙂

X, Y, Z And…

I made it through the alphabet for my art journal!  WHOOT!

And I completed 31 days of watercolor in July for World Watercolor Month!!

I thought you might enjoy seeing my finished alphabet pages…

An X-ray Tetra Fish for “X”:

“Y” is for Yellow:

“Z” for Zentangled zoodles… Which are zucchini noodles!

I still want to add paper collage and a few extra details to complete these pages… so stay tuned! 🙂

And I completed 5 additional watercolor pages to finish my 31 days – I will post them later this week…

I am happy to be done so I can focus on some other art projects.  Yet, I had so much fun!

I enjoyed my extra time at the lake last week... I think my highlights were swimming in the lake – three times a day, reading a super good book, painting outside daily, making paper butterflies with a friend, daily naps and cool evenings.

Wishing you a happy day doing what you love!

Cheers! 🙂

Trees, Unicorns And Vino…

Continuing with my Alphabet watercolor and collage series for the month of July…

Letter, “T” is for trees:

A02545B0-CE67-4E60-AD71-B21DE5D2E6B2

Do you see a couple of birds in my tree?  😉

”U” never know when a unicorn will show up!

Especially when under a sun umbrella!

And no, I wasn’t sampling the vino…

5E13A0FD-B9C4-4DE3-9FA7-B94ECCED3AB7

Just drawing with my eyes closed!  (Yes, my eyes were open for the painting, lettering and I did cheat a little and add a few extra lines to the wine bottles with my eyes open…)

I have decided to spend a few extra days enjoying the lake this week.  Temps will be in the high 80’s and low 90’s…

Summer is so short here that it is nice to enjoy when the weather is good!

There is something about the water that is so soothing…

Cheers to summer! 🙂

M, N, O, P

My continuation of my Alphabet Journal…

Mushrooms from my imagination for the letter, “M”:

0260251A-349E-4496-B136-AABFBAD88552

I did reference wild mushrooms online before I drew and painted these colorful ones.  It was very fun to paint these mushrooms in watercolor.  Adding salt while the paint was wet gave the perfect texture to them.  I am sure I will be painting more in my future!

Letter “N” is for handwritten notes:

63C82C92-DAF0-4239-9B5F-F8328EB6204F

This one took me a little more time to complete.  It was fun to add old postage stamps for the collage part.  Letter writing seems to be becoming a lost form of communication.

”O” is for the color, orange so why not an orange sunset:

92342833-CACA-48FA-A407-95B257A3D2F5

I was playing with color, shapes and balance for the collage part.

Purple petunias from a planter were a perfect subject for the letter, “P”:

62722A8D-EA1E-459E-8816-9A4ADD6A1954

I cut strips of handpainted paper for the collage part.  I thought the colors accented the purples I used for the petunias.

I hope you are enjoying my alphabet series… I’m having so much fun!

Cheers! 🙂

Strange Fungi

When I was at the lake last weekend, my hubby discovered this strange fungi (wild mushroom) growing under the garbage can and pushing it up on one side:

02E90883-2B72-4279-A5ED-F3AB6EACE05E

My husband, who knows how much I enjoy taking photos of these strange natural sightings; told me about it…

I couldn’t resist a photo or two!

I looked it up on the internet yesterday and discovered it to be of the “Puffball” fungus family.  Seriously, the Puffball fungus family of Agaricaceae.

It is sometimes known as the Brain Puffball, I kid you not! 😉

It looked to me like it had a hidden message in it… kind of like “dad” since it was Father’s Day weekend… I guess all families have their strange fungi family members! Lol!

Cheers! 🙂

A Little Art

Hello friends,

I am feeling much better and happy to be blogging again! YAY! 😃

I couldn’t stay away from creating in my art journal for too long…

08D56CE8-DB06-4BC4-90C8-624DB8C03EBF

And discovered this sketchbook to be the perfect size for a little art!

AD3C3CA5-E747-41E1-8B8B-EB7B0119D625

Sometimes I think I have to make something BIG for it to be considered as ART…

DA7B8126-5A13-4F1C-8D90-BF4CAFBD8C9A

Yet, this is not true!  After all, flowers come in all shapes, color and sizes so why not art?

And art journaling isn’t about a MASTERPIECE…

025E3C6D-8CDF-4F44-80FE-DAE8C2232A8B

But EXPLORING and creating…

4B1976F7-ECDD-41CA-A3DD-9940864E8ED7

And experimenting with different art mediums!

Who knows what discoveries I will make by creating a little art in my journal…

2D3D5F7E-A0E5-4EC0-B392-B68162D92331

I encourage you to give it a try!

Plant a little art today…

Lake Doodlings…

What inspires YOU?

This last weekend I was at the lake…

2C0470EE-86AB-413F-AF22-138155A04022

The weather has been unusually warm which has made the snow melt too quickly.  The lake water is well above normal.

16E19D1C-EC58-4CD9-ADA0-AF40B1918361

Beaches are now part of the lake…

D0DEA582-8F6C-47AE-829F-DC65730E3F07

Perhaps stories around a campfire some day?

C079EB69-E56E-4CAC-B1D8-2F7773B73068

The lake was so calm for these photos… beautiful reflections:

6C58199F-157E-42AF-97B3-B00CC9BA5DCA

I love how the sky reflects on the water…

06B56E1B-5493-49B3-92C6-FB7FD6C97303

It gave me time to relax and reflect on my own life.

And create this lake doodle in my art journal…

I’d love to hear what helps YOU relax!

Cheers! 🙂
