A June Bird…

You have heard of a June Bug, right?

Well, why not a June bird!

F6FC2FC6-C678-4ED0-8936-1C7B56A50B11

I decided to try a little something different for today’s weird bird and collage over a watercolor tree I had previously painted in an art journal.

I “repurposed” the word, June from an old wall calendar in several languages and used a page from a weekly paper calendar… I don’t buy weekly calendar’s anymore since I use my cell phone but I still like to buy monthly calendars each year for the inspiring artwork.  How about you?

Hope your June is taking flight for a fabulous month!

Cheers! 🙂

Focus On A Floccus

According to Dictionary.com –

Floccus is

  1.  (noun) A small tuft of woolly hairs.
  2. (adjective) Meteorology (of a cloud) having elements in the form of small, rounded tufts.

My version of a Tufted Floccus:

5397D124-F813-400D-94F4-973E9F4B926F

This weird bird often appears to be scowling and yet I think he is only focusing on his next meal… (something I seem to be thinking about a lot lately since I’m trying to loose a little weight!)

Happy Weird Bird Wednesday!

I hope this bird gives you a smile today…

Cheers! 🙂

P.S.  I imagine you won’t look at tufted clouds without thinking of this weird bird! 😉

A Little Art

Hello friends,

I am feeling much better and happy to be blogging again! YAY! 😃

I couldn’t stay away from creating in my art journal for too long…

08D56CE8-DB06-4BC4-90C8-624DB8C03EBF

And discovered this sketchbook to be the perfect size for a little art!

AD3C3CA5-E747-41E1-8B8B-EB7B0119D625

Sometimes I think I have to make something BIG for it to be considered as ART…

DA7B8126-5A13-4F1C-8D90-BF4CAFBD8C9A

Yet, this is not true!  After all, flowers come in all shapes, color and sizes so why not art?

And art journaling isn’t about a MASTERPIECE…

025E3C6D-8CDF-4F44-80FE-DAE8C2232A8B

But EXPLORING and creating…

4B1976F7-ECDD-41CA-A3DD-9940864E8ED7

And experimenting with different art mediums!

Who knows what discoveries I will make by creating a little art in my journal…

I encourage you to give it a try!

Plant a little art today…

A Lazy Daisy Day

Yesterday, I had a lazy daisy kind of day…

ACEF245A-AA6A-4D17-8984-FD043BCB907C

I was at the lake and the weather was very nice!

75E60B03-B033-4F75-BE8C-C1017E41EB30

What a difference a week makes!  The photo below on the left was taken last weekend and the photo on the right shows how the beach chairs would NOW be under water!

The sunshine feels wonderful but we don’t need the snow in the mountains to melt too quickly!  Flood warnings are now in place…

Oh, the balance of nature… glad I’m not in charge! 😉

Hope you had a lazy daisy day too!  What did you do?

Cheers! 🙂

A Hemming Bird

Today, I decided to challenge myself by limiting my collage papers for creating a weird bird.

These are the materials I chose, some were sitting on my table from previous projects:

A551A2BB-FB35-4247-989E-C53ED840B27F

I cut out shapes and played with patterns until this Hemming Bird appeared from the coat factory family…

He (or she) was looking a little disheveled, so I added a few details to make him look im-pressive… hehe!

I hope your day “shapes up” to be extra wonderful!

Happy Weird Bird Wednesday!

Cheers! 🙂

P.S.  The weather is finally warming up in the Pacific Northwest!  Time to ditch the coats!! YAY!

The Next Chapter…

Last week I showed you my first layers of two collages I started in the online class I’m taking from Anne Marie Grgich: A First Layer

I have made some progress during the last week.  It feels like I have added the next chapter in my collage stories.

I turned this canvas upside down and discovered the close-up of a face, do you see it?

I added some facial features and details, in addition to acrylic paint that I tinted with clear tar gel (which is like a super thick gel medium):

I think adding the yellow and turquoise paint helps bring more cohesion.

And in my second collage, I decided to create a mermaid.  I added more collage images in layers and paint… The progress is more subtle in the photo on the right:

I’m enjoying the process and learning new techniques as I progress.  These collages are like a puzzle or mystery to solve!

I hope you are enjoying the journey with me…

Cheers! 🙂

A Smiley Face

When someone smiles at me, I can’t help but return a smile, how about you?

1AB430EA-0D60-41CD-807D-7A8AC02A37D7

I didn’t know that Harvey Ross Ball was the creator of THE smiley face, did you?

Amazing how such a simple image can bring so much sunshine to others! 🙂

I created this circle fun in my art journal in January and was saving it for the right time to post it…

Today seems like a perfect day!

Cheers! 🙂

Finding Balance

I started this drawing of squares and circles recently with a Micron black pen:

8C9557F9-0000-472F-9ADF-C04D651A4D5A

I was thinking of using a drawing for one of my monthly Square Projects;  you can read more about my project here: February’s Square Project

I think we all struggle with finding balance in one or two areas of our lives.  I know I do! 😉

Sometimes I wish life was as easy as balancing lights and darks like this collage:

E0525A7D-B6D0-4516-BB7C-F300D4581E7B

The collage is still waaay too busy for me, much like life is some times… and yet cutting up the original collage and rearranging the pieces helped me to focus on the whole picture, not just the annoying parts!

It also helped me create balance in this drawing:

BAB9F10C-DF34-44E3-9E54-DE76CB015770

Creating art teaches me a lot about finding balance in my life.  How about you?

My drawing is almost complete, next I will add pencil shading.

Cheers! 🙂

A Cinch

This weird bird was A Cinch to make:

F4BEBCB5-29D5-46B3-83E0-5DE984575047

According to Wikipedia, Cinch is an American trick-taking card game primarily played by four players.  Developed in Denver, Colorado in the 1880’s the card game went out of fashion with the rise of Auction Bridge.

The word, cinch has several meanings in the dictionary, such as easy and having a tight grip.

I thought it made the perfect subject for today’s weird bird!

Happy Weird Bird Wednesday!

Cheers! 🙂

Three Spring Chicks

Since Spring is supposed to be here where I live in the Pacific Northwest…

I created these three Spring Chicks:

8BD68659-6058-47EE-A5DD-1790EDE1FDCC

Maybe you’d like to see my creative process for today’s weird Wednesday birds.

I started with a watercolor background and pulled out some of its colors with paint sample cards.  The name of the paint sample for yellow was “Forsythia” which gave me the idea of Spring flowers!  And since Easter was last Sunday… I thought of baby chicks!

I looked up baby chicks on the internet for a reference.  Then I tore scrapbook paper for their bodies, cut old painted maps for their beaks and used three of the paint sample cards for their Spring hats.  I drew their feet with pencils.

9CFEDF9E-0179-4BE5-A53B-34410ACB83BF

I added some pencil shading, black pen for their eyes with white highlights and Posca paint pens for dots on their hats.  I used music notes for patches of flowers.

As I was writing, Happy Spring… I misspelled the word, “Spring” so I just cut the word out of the background and added the word, “Day!” (No reason to fuss…)

I created a few “Spring” flowers with more paint sample cards to complete my piece.  And added a sprinkle of buttons:

HAPPY DAY to you, no matter the weather or season!

Cheers! 🙂
