Black And White

The theme for this week’s collage challenge from Randel Plowman’s book, “The Collage Workbook,” is black and white.  You can find out more about this art challenge, here: White Out

My first collage is 9×9 inches; I combined old book pages, magazine images, my own doodles, postage stamps, a fortune from a fortune cookie and two leaves from scrapbook paper:

Any ideas for titles?

My second collage is 4×6 inches.  I used images from an art magazine:

I had fun creating these collages yesterday evening.  What a great way to relax!

Happy Friday!

Cheers! 🙂

Piccolo

Piccolo was very proud of her double chins because when she sang, they vibrated and produced the most beautiful sound through the hole in her neck, almost like a small flute… a Piccolo:

Double chins CAN be beautiful!! Lol!

Happy Weird Bird Wednesday!

Cheers! 🙂

We Grow Old…

I was experimenting in drawing and collage yesterday.   When I remembered this quote:

3EEF3B2A-49B1-431E-A45E-BE83EF410352

I used my non-dominant hand to write it:  “We don’t stop playing because we grow old; we grow old because we stop playing.” – George Bernard Shaw

I like how my scribbly handwriting adds to the playfulness of my collage.

How do you keep playing to stay young?

Cheers! 🙂

White Out

I was excited to see that Evelyn Flint was completing one of the 50 Creativity Exercises each week from Randel Plowman’s book, The Collage Workbook:

EC518E2D-012B-47A0-879B-BFF74DEA9D17

This is one of my favorite collage books!  Check out Randel’s blog at www.acollageaday.com

I asked Evelyn if I could join in the fun and she said, “Yes!”  Thank you, Evelyn!  🙂

I wasn’t able to start until this week so I did the first two assignments.

The first one was to do a 5-minute collage.  I decided to create with warm colors, mainly yellow.  (I was in need of a little sunshine…)

It helped me to gather my papers before I set my timer:

9B06C99F-3E0B-4C3F-B183-CEC13FC3126F

I used scrapbook papers, my own hand-painted papers, a sunflower image from an old calendar, my own drawings (color photocopied), old book pages, an image from an old magazine and old postage stamps.

Setting a timer on my phone helped me to stay on track.  This is my first one, on a 4×6 inch index card:

And my second one:

Do you have a favorite?

Yesterday, I did the second assignment titled, “White Out,” using various shades of white only.  This one took me a little more time to gather my supplies.

I used a variety of old pages from books, sheet music, a shorthand book, etc.  The first one I made is 9×12 inches:

I was surprised how interesting variations of white could be!  I also did one that is 4×6 inches:

I really enjoyed both of these exercises.  I hope you enjoyed seeing them. 🙂

Please take a moment to look at Evelyn’s collages on her blog – she does AMAZING collages!!

It is so fun to see how each person interprets the assignments with their own artistic touch.

Thanks again, Evelyn for allowing me to join in the fun!

Cheers! 🙂

A Doodled Poodle Noodle

I finished the collage I started earlier this week, that you can find more about here, A Recipe for PLAY

Below are my progress photos:

She turned out a bit wild:

So I decided she needed a Limerick to tell her story:

There once was a girl who doodled,

Whose hair was curly like a poodle,

She dyed it pink,

Which made me think…

She may not have been using her noodle!

Happy Friday!

Cheers! 🙂

A Square Project

A square idea

And a square book…

A square project

That has me hooked!

B8BE84C6-36DA-45EC-A6C1-89DD2CDB34C2

I’m so excited about this square project that I have planned for 2018!!  Perhaps you remember my paper collaged squares I did in December?

I kept working on it and it has grown in size and dimension:

EC6BDE5A-688D-4BF6-A214-50C519F6087F

So I decided I would keep adding to it!  Each month in 2018, I will add a section.  I hope to play with different colors, materials, techniques and inspiration and record my journey in my square journal and here on my blog.

I also want to learn how to create fabric with my patterns on Spoonflower.  🙂

May you be inspired to start a year-long project of discovery too!  I hope you share it with me so we can encourage each other.

Cheers! 🙂

A Bird’s Eye View

Today’s weird bird is very wise…

9B7F46FD-02F9-4994-93E1-4F8659E50615

The Mountaineer bird has a mountain top view of the world!

From the book, “Finding The Gift,” Angela Howell writes for January 2, “Open land steals my breath away, it’s so beautiful.  I see freedom, opportunity, stillness, serenity, and acceptance.  I feel captivated and present.  I see untouched land and feel like anything is possible.  I feel called and inspired to do and be something great.  I feel a direct connection to my higher guidance and inner knowing, and I’m quieted so I can listen.”

What does a bird’s eye view do for you?  I hope it empowers you to begin!

Happy Weird Bird Wednesday!

Cheers! 🙂

A Recipe for PLAY

What jumpstarts your creativity?

I signed up for Creative Jumpstart 2018 to get my creative juices flowing.  I liked this year’s theme:  Now We’re Cooking; Mixed Media Art Recipes

D8257341-7199-49F5-BC01-E5EC73E2CA3A

This online class has a 10-15 minute video each day from a different mixed-media artist throughout the month of January.  Cost is reasonable too – only $50!

If you’d like more information and a short video about the class, go to:  www.Nathaliesstudio.com

I wrote down some of my “ingredients” for PLAY above… and then collaged over it with matte medium and scraps of painted paper (and an old recipe):

F7CC9A3F-D04F-4725-B2ED-6C91EF990815

One of the ways I like create an atmosphere of PLAY is to leave a project unfinished on my table.  Then I can’t wait to get back and work on it! 🙂

How about you?  Do you have a technique for jumpstarting your creativity?

I will show you my finished piece later this week.

Cheers! 🙂

A Heavenly Bird

The Heavenly bird of the “PIE” family:

I think Chocolate Cream Pie is definitely a slice of heaven! 😉

Do you see any strange animals in the clouds?

Happy Weird Bird Wednesday!

Cheers! 🙂

The Caroling Bird

Definitely a song bird…

This Caroling Bird sings a song of joy!

Wishing you a HAPPY Weird Bird Wednesday!

Hope you will be singing a happy tune…

Cheers! 🙂
