A Slice of Color, Please!

I have been making collaged “color wheels” for an online class with Lynn Whipple for 2019 Year of the Collage.  I used a variety of papers, mostly my own.

They remind me of pizza…

I will take a slice of color, please!

I think color is the one thing that appeals to my “appetite” the most when I am creating – no matter what art medium I am exploring.

Louise Primeau at ARTiculations on WordPress recently featured an article about me and many different art mediums I have explored.  Here is a link if you’d like to check out Louise’s blog and the article: https://louiseprimeau.com/featured-artist-jill-kuhn/

Thank you Louise!

Next, week, I will show you how I used these color wheels in a project.

Cheers! 🙂

P.S. What slices of color appeal to YOU?

Short And Stout

Today, I have two squabby (short and stout) weird birds…

Who seem to be having a squabble (petty quarrel) under the rhubarb.

My rhubarb plant is going to seed…  But I think it is kind of beautiful!

Did you know that rhubarb is “slang” for quarrel or squabble?

Happy Weird Bird Wednesday!

Cheers! 🙂

P.S. As I am willing to risk more and put my art out into the world, I am also more at risk for other people to criticize my art.  How do you handle criticism in your art making or life?  I hope you share your wisdom with me!  Thanks!

Ancient Teachings

I finished another collage using paper back books over the weekend, like the one I posted previously:  By The Book

Except this time, I included these “other materials”:  a postage stamp, text, images from an old book on Botany, image of a man from a hardback book cover on yoga for women, hand stitching, gauze-like material from the binding of a hardback book and some of my own Gelli-plate prints!

I found this mosaic format a fun challenge.  I tried to balance color, texture, line and shape without making it too busy.  I also tried to create a story with a little mystery.

This style is a bit of a stretch for me… but I’m enjoying the process!

I’d love to hear what you think!

Cheers! 🙂

Topiary Tales

What weird bird am I?

There is no right or wrong answer… Lol!  I look forward to your bird names. 😉

Our grass is finally turning green and the trees are budding, Spring has arrived!  Hoorah!!

Happy weird bird Wednesday!

Cheers! 🙂

P. S.  What animals do you see in the clouds?

Petal Punch

I discovered this super FANTASTIC flower punch at Hobby Lobby before my hip surgery:

I love that I can use both the positive and negative of each petal punch!

Below are some examples of handmade cards I recently made using this punch:

Do you have a favorite?  I hope you share it with me!

Cheers! 🙂

An Inside View

Thank you all for your kind words of support for my hip surgery.  I am doing amazingly well.  I still get tired but am able to walk without any support and have very little pain.  I get my stitches out this Friday and hope that I will be given the green light for driving!

I have a little something different for today’s weird bird…

Birdhouses!

Our snow is finally melting and it looks like Spring is on its way!  This makes me think about birdhouses.  Plus, I have been making mini house collages in Carla Sonheim’s 2019 Year of the Collage class.

I created these eccentric birdhouses in my sketchbook recently.  I limited myself to using a circle and 2 other collage scraps for each one.  I randomly glued them into a square and then went back and added details with a pencil.

One of them looked like it had an inside view.

This inspired me to create this collage from a variety of magazines:

An Inside View of a Birdhouse

What kind of weird bird do you think lives here?  I know it is a bird with extremely good taste as the framed chicken is from a Klimt calendar!

Happy weird bird Wednesday!

Cheers! 🙂

Inspired by Place

I started a mixed media class last week with Lendon Noe, hosted by Carla Sonheim.  The online class is called, “Inspired by Place.”

I find it an intriguing subject.

Is place a home, perhaps a memory such as a childhood home?  Is place a feeling, a sense of calm from being with nature?  Or is place from your imagination?  There are many other possibilities!

I was inspired to create this collaged landscape of a place I hold dear to my heart in my art journal:

89C6042E-0F39-4FA7-B29E-F7A580F0F02F

It is a view of Chimney Rock at Priest Lake, Idaho.

I love this place!  It holds a special memory where I have been spending my summers since childhood.  It brings me a feeling of peace when I see it in person and from photographs such as this one:

A7E735EF-4A23-40D4-AB21-6D11268EEA1A

And it is a place that I sometimes go in my imagination when I need to relax.

What place inspires you?  I hope you share it with me!

Cheers! 🙂

Collage Exploration

I recently purchase this book from Amazon:

71D81A81-2E61-4365-9887-CF3AD7380D2C

It has some fabulous ideas that have sparked my imagination!

Such as this collage exploration:

It was inspired by the recent “winter storm” we got over the weekend!

Yesterday, I did some organizing of my art supplies.  It inspired me to create these three collages that I glued in my art journal:

Each collage above has hand-stitching, can you find it?

Cheers! 🙂

Strange Inventions…

It is fun to glue shapes on paper and see what appears, like this collage in my art journal:

Sometimes adding doodles with a black pen helps me work through life’s problems.

Yesterday, these strange inventions appeared!

I wish the medical field could invent a cure for dementia… My hubby’s mom is really struggling with this terrible disease.  And we struggle finding her good care.

Sometimes it is these strange creatures or inventions that show up when I need a smile.

I hope this whimsy brings a smile to your day as well!

Cheers! 🙂

Bird Band

Unfortunately, this bird band has been banned in several neighborhoods because of their LOUD and REPETITIVE playing and singing…

The Oom-Pah-Pah Feathered Trio

The “Oom-Pah-Pah Family Feathered Trio” was last seen in a neighborhood in New Jersey…

Be on the look out, this bird band may be flying your way!

Happy Weird Bird Wednesday!

Cheers! 🙂
