Shoebill’s Cousin

There is actually a bird – a stork, called the Shoebill.  It is named a Shoebill because its beak looks like a shoe, I kid you not!  I hope you look it up!  It is also known as a Whalehead… 😮  I will save that image for another day.

I created Shoebill’s cousin for today’s Weird Bird Wednesday, this is the Bootbill bird:

It is also known as the Shoemaker bird because the definition for boot was already used!  😉

It reminds me of some of my earlier bird creations wearing hats and shoes – you can find one of them here.

I hope you don’t give my weird bird the boot!! Lol!

Cheers!  🙂

A Rare Recipe

I’ve been enjoying some delicious recipes from Jodi at LifeInbetween.me and Jenna at The Painted Apron so I decided to whip up my own creative recipe for today’s weird rare bird!

I’m continuing with the “R” theme for my Recipe in the Alphabet Journal.  “R” you READY for some fun?!

IMG_2822

Really?  I can hear you now… so where is this Rare bird!  Here he or she is:

He is on the back of the recipe card in my Alphabet Journal:

Happy Weird Bird Wednesday!!

Hope you have a REMARKABLE day – And don’t forget to smile REPEATEDLY!

Cheers!  🙂

Pair Of Dice?

These birds might hang from a rear-view mirror…

Or perhaps they are rolled in a game of Yahtzee?

But I believe they are Para-dice birds… Flying around in Paradise!

How many weird birds can you find hidden in this picture?

Happy Weird Bird Wednesday!

Cheers! 🙂

Name That Flavor…

I decided since the temperatures have been so HOT here – into the 90’s – that it was time we all had an ice cream cone!  😉

Well, since I’m lactose intolerant and can’t eat REAL ice cream, I decided to create some mixed media cones to share with you!

Can you name each “flavor” of art medium I used?  (Answers below)

IMG_2385

1.  The scoop – a color copy of a doodle I did previously with color pencils in 2015.  Cone is watercolor painted paper from an online class I took with Cat Bennett.  I used a patterned piece of tissue paper and a white charcoal pencil over it.

2.  The scoop – paper printed with acrylics on a Gelli plate.  Cone is from old sheet music that lists names of songs – added bonus – “summer” is part of name for one song.  Color pencil to create cone pattern.

3.  The scoop – old map that I gelli-printed.  Cone shape is cut from a paint sample card.  (Note:  Bears on my mind after two people encountered them at the lake within the last week!  Buy bear spray!)

4.  The scoop – old book page that I painted with watercolor.  Cone is scrapbook paper that looks like cork board.

5.  The scoop – scrapbook paper that was cut using a circle stencil.  I cut part of the circle to create this shape.  Cone is gelli-printed paper I did on deli paper.

I hope you enjoyed guessing these “flavors” of fun!

Cheers! 🙂

Cold Soup

I’m not a big cold soup fan, how about you?

Yet, I’m kind of fond of this weird bird, Gazpacho!

And his cousin, the Bottle bird:

Of course I had to try a bird (or two) with yesterday’s staple method… Perhaps those houses were for the birds!

Happy Weird Bird Wednesday!

Hope I gave you a smile today!  Cheers! 🙂

Fixer Uppers…

I’ve been wanting to create these “fixer upper” homes with scraps of collage papers…

IMG_2056

It was an assignment in Carla Sonheim’s “365 Video Every Day” online class that  I’m doing this year.

Super fun to use a stapler instead of glue.  I encourage you to give it a try!

Happy Building!  Cheers! 🙂

Face It

OK, it was not easy to come up with a title for today’s post… if I must “face it!”

How do I describe these silly faces?!

They were created from my faces I did on Tuesday and then cut them up and mixed them up to create these new wacky faces!

IMG_1883

It kind of reminded me of a meeting I had yesterday with a group of people where I felt totally out of place…  Not because they made me feel this way but because I realized that I didn’t fit into this group.  Have you ever felt this way?

IMG_1881

They were all “left brains” and I’m more of a “right brain” thinker…

I realized that it was OK that we are different – we don’t have to ALL think alike…

IMG_1891

Or look alike!

IMG_1880

Or create art alike!!

Cheers to being different!  🙂

Maid In The Shade

I’ve heard of a housewife…

And a househusband,

But a housebird?!!  How absurd!

Well, maybe not…

IMG_1634

Ha!  A bird has a built-in “feather duster!”

Happy Weird Bird Wednesday!

Cheers! 🙂

An Owl From Spangle

IMG_1470

There once was an owl from Spangle

Who could dance the midnight tangle,

He could dip and sway

Other birds did say –

From a branch at any angle.

Just a little Limerick to give you a smile today!

Cheers!  🙂

Collage Expressions

Yesterday, I decided to challenge myself with creating faces from pieces of collage paper in my sketchbook.  I used scrap pieces of my gelli-printed paper, text from old books such as a dictionary, scrapbook paper, sheet music and a postage stamp!  🙂

Here is my beginning:

And my finished piece:

I was having so much fun I had to add a couple more faces!  Do you have a favorite?

Perhaps I will inspire you to give it a try!  Happy Monday!

Cheers! 🙂
