I Spy, Collage!

I purchased a new art journal called, “Dylusions” by Ranger from Amazon last week:

CC09CF4B-464D-40D8-B751-34CE09A38D52

I like the thick cardstock pages which are perfect for collage.  I also like that it has an envelope in the front of the book for storage:

The paper size is 11.25 inches by 8 inches.  The book comes in other sizes but I liked the size of this one.  I like that the cover is plain brown paper so I can decorate it myself.

I created one of my “hidden pictures” collages over the weekend.  I like the “I Spy” books, how about you?

There is something meditative about cutting and glueing paper that I enjoy.

I hope you have fun finding the items in my “I Spy, collage!”

What other treasures can you find that I didn’t list?

Cheers! 🙂

A Daily Creative Practice

As many of you know, I enjoy taking online art classes – especially from CarlaSonheim.com

I started taking her first year-long class in 2013 with the Year of the Giraffe.  This year will be my 6th year.  I don’t always get to every assignment yet I enjoy the community and creative connections I make through her classes on Facebook.

I also enjoy the assignments as it helps me to think-outside-the-box and explore art in new ways.  Like this lesson:

I used thread dipped in watercolor and a brayer to create the abstract above.  Below is another one I did with India ink:

This year’s class is similar to last year’s – 365 days of creating daily.  The class started on Friday, January 5 so you can still sign-up and join in if you’d like. 🙂

Below is what I titled, Low Tide, where I used another piece of paper over the thread instead of a brayer to create my abstract:

You have the option this year to get the assignments daily or weekly.  I currently signed up for daily but may change to weekly later on.

Yesterday, our assignment was to draw a piece of fruit blindfolded – the fruit, not me! Hehe 😉 I did an apple:

I hope you join in the fun!!  Go to http://www.carlasonheim.com for more information.

Cheers to creating daily! 🙂

Sugary Sweets

Perhaps this stickybeaked bird has been dive bombing into too many sugary sweets lately?!

Word of the day:  stickybeak (noun) Australian slang – a busybody; meddler

How many sugary treats have you consumed today? 😉  Frankly, I’m not counting…

Happy Weird Bird Wednesday!!

Hope your day is extra sweet!  Cheers!  🙂

The Wafflestomper

The Wafflestomper bird is often seen while hiking in the wilderness.  This bird is recognizable by its footprints and flannel checkered feathers…

Happy Weird Bird Wednesday, friends!!!

Hmm, I think I’m hungry for some waffles now!  Lol!  🙂

Harold’s Idea

It was a blustery Spring day yesterday when Harold landed on my doorstep.

You do remember Harold, don’t you?

I invited Harold inside for a hot cup of Mint Magic tea:

As Harold’s feathers started to warm-up, he started chirping, I mean, CHATTING almost non-stop!

Here is some of our conversation….

“You know summer is coming,” said Harold while tapping his beak impatiently on his teacup…”

“Why yes, Harold.”  I replied quietly.

“So I think it is time to roll out some fun!”  Replied Harold, waving his wings enthusiastically.

“How do you suggest I do this?”  I replied calmly.

“Well, I think you could start a Weird Bird Wednesday on your blog,” said Harold, spilling a little tea on his scarf in his excitement.

“Oh?”  I replied with caution.

“Why yes,” said Harold, “You could create one of your weird birds from dictionary.com – word of the day.  And maybe your readers will want to suggest a word now and then too!”

“That may work,” I replied as the imagination wheels started spinning in my head.

“And I will get the ball rolling by suggesting the first word for your weekly series,” said Harold with a smile on his beak.

(How could I turn down a smiling bird!)  “Okay, I will do it!” I said happily.  Harold stood and gave me a high-five with his wing.

“What word do you suggest for the first Weird Bird Wednesday?”  I asked.

“Ninnyhammer!”  Shouted Harold as he giggled and flew out my door…

Here is my Ninnyhammer bird (AKA – A Noodlehead):

Now you know how some of my creative ideas get started!  Harold and I hope you play along and suggest words for a future, Weird Bird Wednesday!

Happy Smiles!  :-)))

A Dipsy-Doodle Bird

Word of the day:  Dipsy-Doodle

Wacky Wednesday

Well, I couldn’t resist a little wacky word play with this word of the day:

wing-ding – noun  1.  a noisy, exciting celebration or party

Wendy Warbler wants to WOW all birds at Wednesday’s wild wing-ding!

Wendy Warbler

Wendy’s wearing a wacky wardrobe while whistling, “Rockin Robin” and whirling wildly.  I wonder will Wendy win?

What worldly words of wisdom would you give Wendy?

Have a wonderful Wednesday!

And HAPPY whistling!  Tweet Tweet!  🙂

A Birling Bird

Word of the Day:  Birling  (noun) – A game played by Lumberjacks (or limber birds) in which each tries to balance longest on a floating log while rotating the log with the feet.

Ben won the BEST Birling Bird Prize!

Ben had the advantage of  Pinwheel feet but the other birds were unaware!

May you find balance while rotating life’s challenges!

Happy Creating!  🙂

Message In The Bathtub

Sometimes I mess up lyrics to songs and invent my own words….

I have always done this to Sting’s song, “Message in the Bottle.”  To me, it sounds like he is saying, “Message in the bathtub!”  Yeah, I know – I’m weird!

monogreen bird

I was surprised to learn at Dictionary.com  that there was actually a word – Mondegreen which means:  a misinterpretation of a word or phrase that has been heard, especially a song lyric.

HA!  I’m not the only one who does this!  YAY!

I think that my message for you today is to keep creating even when you don’t FEEL like it.

When I get stuck and don’t know what to do but WANT  to create something, I turn to the “Word of the Day,” at Dictionary.com as it always inspires me!

What do you do?  I’d love to hear about it!

Happy singing!  🙂

A Quidnunc

I haven’t done an art piece using a dictionary “word of the day” in awhile.

So here is Betty who is equipped with special antennas:

Betty - a Quidnunc

Quidnunc is pronounced, KWID-nuhngk – noun

It means a person who is eager to know the latest news and gossip; a gossip or busybody.

I think we all know a quidnunc in our lives.  LOL!

Hope Betty makes you smile today!  🙂
