Yesterday, I finished doodling my letters in my World Watercolor Month sketchbook that I posted recently:
This inspired me to use the letters, “WBW” for today’s Weird Bird Wednesday:
I knew if I moved my paper around, I could find a weird bird in the letters… Can you find one?
This one flew off the page at me – so I added a few more details with watercolors:
Next, I decided to doodle my letters with an ink pen to finish it:
Happy Weird Bird Wednesday!!

Red, White and Blue… Today we celebrate our freedom in the United States!
I thought it would be fun to revisit what I posted on my blog in 2016:
Red, White and Cyan?
Happy Independence Day!
Wishing you ALL a day celebrating WHAT and WHO you hold dear!! ❤💙❤

Yesterday, I went to a potluck with some lake friends. I decided to try a new recipe using my Spiralizer – so I made this Italian Pasta Salad – without pasta! I used zucchini and I have to say, no one missed the pasta. I will share my recipe next week. Here is a photo of it:
Making this salad gave me the inspiration to paint sweet peppers for World Watercolor Month.
My subject matter – I was painting outdoors so my lighting changed but this gives you an idea:
My finished painting in my art journal:
I decided to splatter my background instead of adding the tablecloth. I think it looks rather festive, don’t you?

I took this photo at the lake recently:
Then had fun changing it with a free app called, “Layout,” on my iPad:
Doesn’t it look cool?!
Here is another one with a different photo:
Wishing you a day to relax doing what you enjoy!

I had so much fun participating in World Watercolor Month last July that I decided to purchase a few new art supplies in anticipation for this July.
I splurged on a Stillman and Birn mixed media art journal from Amazon and decided to try a couple different brands of watercolor paint. I also purchased a Quill watercolor brush. Here are my supplies:
I couldn’t wait to try out my new journal so I had to splash some paint inside before I left for work!
Charlie O’Shields at https://doodlewash.com has been busy updating his blog and I must admit it looks soooo cool! I hope you check out, “World Watercolor Month,” at the top of his page and subscribe to his blog. Charlie always has an interesting story to share with his amazing watercolor paintings! 🙂
Perhaps you remember some of my watercolor posts from last July:
I really enjoyed painting the natural beauty around me when I was at the lake. And I hope to continue this year plus add a few faces to the mix!
Back to this morning’s journal; I added these letters to my painting:
And splashed on more watercolor…
I will add some doodles to my letters and show you my results later…
I hope you will join me in celebrating World Watercolor Month.

Funny how one idea often leads to another!
I recently created this paper collage for the 100-day project on Instagram (I’m doing 100 days of faces).
“Dottie hoped someone would ask her to dance at the party…”
I found a photo of a face and cut it in half to challenge myself to draw the second half of her face a little differently. I added collage from a magazine for her dress and a hat from paper I purchased to give her a little zing! 🙂 The background I created with watercolor.
This led me to create today’s weird bird: “Her friends called her a night owl.”
This one is a bit weird – even for me… but you have to admit, it is quite a hoot to look at! Lol! 😉
I found an image of an owl, cut it in half and found an image of a gal’s face and matched the two images together. Next, I traced part of her dress using tracing paper and then cut out a piece of my gelli-printed paper. I liked the striking contrast with the black and white image with the red.
I found another gelli-print to paste my image to – it looks a bit mysterious with a moon shape in the upper left corner. The image at the bottom I cut from a piece of collage paper.
I hope you enjoyed learning how I created today’s collages. These were like a puzzle for me and so fun to do!
Happy Weird Bird Wednesday!

My cat loves to be outside during the summer months when the weather is warmer.
But yesterday evening he got trapped (briefly) inside the garage…
He was one grumpy cat! 😦
Carla Sonheim recently gave an assignment in her 365 video class – day #177 – to draw several quick one-liner cats and my grumpy Jack cat appeared! Lol!
Happy Drawing! 🙂

Some people see weeds…
I see a field of flowers,
Growing wild and free.
I took this photo yesterday at the lake. We had such a beautiful weekend – sunny and warm.
These daisies are considered weeds in the State of Idaho but I think they look so pretty!
Happy Monday! Cheers! 🙂

I used to spend hours writing my thoughts and ideas in a journal – not the journals you see now… mine were yellow note pads. Nothing fancy… Yet, writing helped me deal with life – the good times and the not so good. Can you relate?!
Yesterday, I decided to try combining writing with DRAWING – my new love! ❤
First, I did some writing with a permanent black pen. (I love “fine” black Sharpie pens and Amazon sells them really cheap).
Next, I found a face on Pinterest to use as a reference to sketch over my words with a pencil. I added a little color with Tombow markers. I softened them with a water brush. Here is my result:
I will definitely try combining writing and drawing again.

I find the shadows to be almost as beautiful of the flowers in the sun light!
Foxglove next to Bluebells:
Flowers purchased to plant:
And flowers planted:
May you enjoy the beauty surrounding you today!
