A Thousand Reasons To Smile

Life can give me unexpected surprises… How about YOU?

When I discovered this quote yesterday on the Internet, it encouraged me:

Last Saturday, I discovered these flowers from  A Walk In The Park

They were my inspiration for today’s artwork in my journal…

I hope my art and this quote will encourage you to smile too in difficult times.

Sunny weather last weekend changed to 30’s and SNOW this weekend!  😮

I’m thankful we were able to get our yard work done yesterday before the snow accumulates…

Wishing you one thousand reasons to smile every day!

Cheers! 🙂

The Puzzler

Many of you may know that I LOVE puzzles!

So when Carla Sonheim recently gave the assignment on her “365 video class” to create A Puzzle Picture, I had to give it a try!

I started by creating an imaginary shape in watercolor.  After a couple of watercolor layers, I added detail with color pencil and shaded with a 2B pencil.  And my imaginary animal(s) appeared!

Next, I cut my paper in half and added elements that fit together like a puzzle:

From each side of my square:

It was a fun challenge to get the elements to line up and create an interesting picture:

I hope you give it a try!

And allow your imagination to let go like a child’s balloon in the sky…

I hope you weekend is FUNtastic!

Cheers!  🙂

Nature’s Confetti

I took these photos, last Saturday when I took A Walk In The Park

I hope to paint some of these trees in watercolor but work has been extra busy this week …

So for now, I wrote a haiku to share with these photos:

Things are looking up!

Fall leaves scatter unaware…

Nature’s confetti

Isn’t it wonderful how nature helps us notice the simple pleasures in life and celebrate its beauty?!

The Flower Bird

Zen doodle meets Weird Bird Wednesday!

The Calendula Bird AKA the Marigold bird loves to flap its wings and spread the seeds of flowers in the Fall so that we have a beautiful Spring!

IMG_4057

Did you know that deer don’t like to eat this flower?  I like to plant it at the lake in the summer where deer like to nibble on all leaves, flowers and fruit – like this skinny one:

Happy Weird Bird Wednesday!

Cheers! 🙂

Ahoy Matey!

Avast ye!  (Listen up!)

It is that time of year again to go, Trick er Treatin’ and collect some treasure! (Candy)

Last year, I carved a pumpkin, you can see my post here:  Sir Earhand, A Ghost And Frank

This year, I decide to draw one:

I remember many childhood years of “Trick or Treating” in our neighborhood and filling a plastic pumpkin bucket full of Halloween candy.  How about you?

When we returned home, my sister and I always had to dump out all our candy on our pink bedspreads and compare our “booty” er, candy!!

I think my older sister was a pirate one year…  we usually had create our costumes instead of buying a one.  One of my favorite memories was when my sis dressed up as Granny… but that is for another year!

Yo-ho-ho! (Hahaha)

Happy Halloween to the child in all of us! 🙂

50 Fish FINale

YAY! I did it!!  🙂  I created 50 fish on Instagram before October 31st!!  WHOOT!!

Perhaps you remember the art challenge with two creative friends started on September 1st that I told you about here, Catch The Fun

I enjoyed creating a fish almost every day in a different art medium.  (Click on “Fish” in the drop down of catagories on the right of your screen to see more).  It became a real challenge to come up with a new way to create a fish each day!

Some fish, I wanted to throw back into the creative pool…

And some I envisioned differently…

IMG_4041

But I decided as long as I was having fun…

Then I was HAPPY!

My FINished fish with a little Halloween twist!

Happy fishing!!

Cheers! 🙂

A Walk In The Park

It was an amazing fall day yesterday in the Pacific Northwest!  Hubby and I took advantage of this blue-sky day by taking a walk at Manito Park.

It seems that everywhere we looked, nature was showing her glorious autumn colors:

It was wonderful to see so many people out enjoying the day… we saw people taking family photos, several dog walkers and many people just breathing in the beauty like us.

It was easy to put the busy work week behind us when we were dazzled by these colors as they reflected on this pond:

And with such a spectacular photo like this one:

Life’s troubles seemed to disappear.

Wishing you a moment to reflect on the beauty around you today…

Cheers! 🙂

FUNny Fish Saturday?

FUNny Fish Saturday?!  Yep!  🙂

This is what happens when work takes priority!  Glad it’s the weekend!  How about you?

Hope these funny fish give you a smile today!

Cheers!  🙂

And The Materials Are…

I wanted to show you the collage materials that went into making my weird bird from yesterday:

IMG_3837

Did you guess ALL 10 materials?  Well, if not, let me help you out!

  1.  I started my bird collage with a word from this children’s dictionary for my bird’s body.  It started me thinking about a sewing theme.

IMG_3849

2.  I altered pages from this old sewing book with acrylics before using it as part of the bird’s tail and nest materials.

IMG_3847

3.  I color copied a doodle I did previously and cut it up for my bird’s hat.

4.  I used my gelli-printed deli papers for my bird’s head, wing and nest materials.

IMG_3842

5.  A paint sample card for the bird’s eye but I didn’t like the yellow color so I turned it over and used the other side with the bar code!

6.  An old button was perfect for the top of the hat.

7.  A sequin for the eye.

8.  Old sheet music that I gelli-printed for the base of the nest.

IMG_3851

9.  Swedish Tracing Paper that I had gelli-printed a feather stencil – this tracing paper feels more like a fabric.  It is a super fun material to collage with BTW!  I think I purchased it on Amazon.  It comes in a large roll.  I used it under the bird’s body for the nest.

IMG_3850

10.  Tissue from an old dress pattern was used over the sheet music for the nest – a fun element of surprise. 😉

I usually use a glue stick to glue everything down and outline my bird with pencil to give it a little dimension.

I hope you enjoyed seeing the FUN I put into this BEST Dressed Bird!

Cheers! 🙂

The Best Dressed Bird

With Thanksgiving just a month away… I was thinking about dinner with roast turkey, corn bread stuffing, mashed potatoes and gravy, sweet potatoes with maple syrup and pecans… Need I continue?!

Today’s Best Dressed Bird is not about food!  It is about dressing up in its finest to attract a mate.  I’d say she is a “material girl bird.”  Hehe!

Can you guess the 10 materials that went into making my bird?

I will reveal the answers in tomorrow’s post – I hope you join me.

Happy Weird Bird Wednesday!

Cheers! 🙂
