I remember as a child when I was eating dinner with my family, my sister and I were constantly reminded to have proper “table manners” and keep our elbows off the table! 😉
Funny how some of these memories come back to me when I’m writing this blog…
I was thinking about this collage I created yesterday with what I had on my art table in front of me.
It was done quickly.
Probably in less than 10 minutes.
(And probably with my elbows on the table… Good thing I wasn’t eating! Lol!)
What’s on your art table?
What inspires you to create carefree without thinking?
I hope you share it with me!

I have recently discovered mixing water soluble pencils and watercolors.
I quickly sketched these faces with a 6B water soluble pencil and then splashed some watercolors on the paper – trying not to overthink it.
After the watercolor dried, I added more details with my (Faber Castell) Graphite Aquarelle pencils – in 4B, softening the lines with a Pentel waterbrush:
It was so fun that I decided to try the same technique with flowers:
I tried to create a quick sketch and loosely paint it with watercolors so the colors would blend on the paper. Below, I added the water soluble pencil in 4B:
Next, I hope to add some collage papers to these paintings. I will post my progress next week!
May your day bloom with happiness!

OK, it was not easy to come up with a title for today’s post… if I must “face it!”
How do I describe these silly faces?!
They were created from my faces I did on Tuesday and then cut them up and mixed them up to create these new wacky faces!
It kind of reminded me of a meeting I had yesterday with a group of people where I felt totally out of place… Not because they made me feel this way but because I realized that I didn’t fit into this group. Have you ever felt this way?
They were all “left brains” and I’m more of a “right brain” thinker…
I realized that it was OK that we are different – we don’t have to ALL think alike…
Or look alike!
Or create art alike!!
Cheers to being different! 🙂

“The aim of art,” according to Aristotle, “is to represent not the outward appearance of things but their inward significance.”
I used a melon baller, seed pod and seashells for my inspiration in these imaginary flowers:
I started with watercolor. Next, I added layers of paper collage with matte gel medium, watercolor, and white gel pen. I finished my piece with the quote from Aristotle:
What is the aim of art for you?
I think my aim for art is to create it! I just love to explore new materials and discover how I can create it into something new for me – and maybe you too!

I was inspired by Picasso to create this face:
I studied several photos of Picasso before I drew a sketch in pencil. I colored my sections with oil pastels, using two different colors on top of each other. Next, I scratched into the oil pastels with the end of a mechanical pencil to create the patterns.
I finished it by cutting out the face with scissors. Oil pastels are a bit messy but I had fun experimenting!
It reminds me of one of my doodles…

I started this watercolor abstract in my art journal last week, you can see it here.
I wanted to experiment and add texture so I drew several circles with a black pen. Next, I added clear gesso to the middles of my circles. I finished by drawing around the color changes within my circles with a white charcoal pencil.
I think it now looks like torn pieces of paper in a collage. It is fun to look at it from different angles:
Right side up and upside down:
And sideways – one:
I see fish and mountains…
Do you see what I see?
Happy Monday! 🙂

I started a new doodle in my art journal yesterday. I like the organic feel to it:
It reminds me of a previous doodle about a cat that I named, Sweet Pea that you can find here and here.
I haven’t done a doodle that connected to a second page before now. I’m liking the flow of it. I hope to add color to this one so stay tuned!
Work has been extremely busy this week so not much time for art. Yet, I try to squeeze it in a little doodling in the evening.
I’m doing my happy dance that it’s Friday! Wishing you all a fabulous weekend!

“Come, little leaves,” Said the Wind one day; “Come to the meadows with me and play. Put on your dresses of red and gold; for summer is past and the days grow cold.” – George Cooper
I was inspired by these leaves in their autumn dress:
To create this mixed media piece in my art journal:
Wishing you a beautiful day, Friends! 🙂
PS. I’m posting later than normal because I was having computer issues yesterday…

I finished my mixed media art piece that I started last week. If you recall, I was influenced by a photo I took of a Lupine flower’s seed pods. The last progress photo that I showed you is on the left or here, next to the completed piece on the right:
I like how the added collage papers (printed on my Gelli-Plate) give it more depth. I added a few more patterns with a white gel pen too. I plan on framing this one! 🙂
We’ve been having some awesome sunsets which I appreciate even more because we have several wildfires burning in our area. When we have clear skies, it is a definite reason to celebrate:
May these beautiful sunsets inspire you in your art like a simple seed pod did for me.
