Nature’s Confetti

I took these photos, last Saturday when I took A Walk In The Park

I hope to paint some of these trees in watercolor but work has been extra busy this week …

So for now, I wrote a haiku to share with these photos:

Things are looking up!

Fall leaves scatter unaware…

Nature’s confetti

Isn’t it wonderful how nature helps us notice the simple pleasures in life and celebrate its beauty?!

Cheers! ūüôā

Ahoy Matey!

Avast ye!  (Listen up!)

It is that time of year again to go, Trick er Treatin’¬†and collect some treasure! (Candy)

Last year, I carved a pumpkin, you can see my post here:  Sir Earhand, A Ghost And Frank

This year, I decide to draw one:

I remember many childhood years of “Trick or Treating” in our neighborhood and filling a plastic pumpkin¬†bucket full of Halloween candy. ¬†How about you?

When we returned home, my sister and I always had to dump out all our candy on our pink bedspreads and compare our “booty” er, candy!!

I think my older sister was a pirate¬†one year… ¬†we usually had create our costumes instead of buying a one. ¬†One of my favorite memories was when my sis dressed up as Granny… but that is for another year!

Yo-ho-ho! (Hahaha)

Happy Halloween¬†to the child in all of us! ūüôā

A Walk In The Park

It was an amazing fall day yesterday in the Pacific Northwest!  Hubby and I took advantage of this blue-sky day by taking a walk at Manito Park.

It seems that everywhere we looked, nature was showing her glorious autumn colors:

It was wonderful to see so many people out enjoying the day… we saw people taking family photos, several dog walkers and many people just breathing in the beauty like us.

It was easy to put the busy work week behind us when we were dazzled by these colors as they reflected on this pond:

And with such a spectacular photo like this one:

Life’s troubles seemed to disappear.

Wishing you a moment to reflect on the beauty around you today…

Life’s Path

Some days I wonder where life is leading me…

IMG_3596

I wish it was as easy as “following the yellow brick road!”

IMG_3647

Yet, when I feel cloudy on the inside…

IMG_3656

I know that God’s Son-shine will always give me hope for a new day!

Cheers Friends! ūüôā

Seeing Pink

Yesterday, I did a little printing on my Gelli-Plate – and maybe it was the color of the plastic table cloth…

IMG_3547

But I was¬†SEEING pink! ¬†ūüôā

IMG_3618

Maybe it was because I took a photo of these pretty pink roses in my yard before Jack Frost arrived:

IMG_3553

Or seeing these blushing blueberry bushes:

IMG_3592

I was definitely seeing PINK!

I’d love to hear how nature inspires you in your art making – I hope you share it with me!

Apples – Tart And Sweet

Sometimes creating art is like an apple… It can be¬†tart and sweet! ¬†

I started this mixed media piece I showed you in yesterday’s post – with watercolor and walnut ink on hot press watercolor paper.

I color copied a cut apple directly on my copier! ¬†I learned this technique recently from Lendon Noe¬†in an online class hosted by Carla Sonheim: ¬†“Meaning Making: Inspired by Poetry.”

IMG_3356

After I color copied my apple, I transferred the image to my paper with matte medium.  I like how the background colors show through my apple!

Next, I drew three crabapples directly on the right side of my page with Stabilo CarbOthello which are Chalk-pastel coloring pencils.

I¬†added the words, “Apple and Autumn” with a Pilot Parallel Pen with a 2.4 mm nib¬†– which is a calligraphy pen that uses water soluble ink. ¬†I discovered that the¬†ink bled over the apple transfer when I tried to write the word, “Autumn” using the “A” from the word, Apple.

Instead of scraping the whole project, I tried first to cover up the letters with tracing paper where I had lightly drawn apples as you see below in the photo on the right:

However, I still wasn’t satisfied with it so removed the tracing paper and covered the letters with computer typed letters. ¬†How do I blend the typed letters with my piece?

I solved the problem by gluing a piece of Gelli-printed deli paper in a light orange color over the typed letters.

IMG_3464

I added three autumn leaves that I color copied and transferred the same way as the half of apple.

The words describe an apple to me:  Tart and sweet, juicy, fresh, round, red and green, yellow.

I learned a lot from this art piece!  It may not be frame worthy but I learned how to persevere and FINISH it!  Sweet, I say!

Cheers! ūüôā

Autumn’s Display

My hubby and I closed our lake place this weekend as it is getting colder. ¬†Autumn brings cooler temperatures in the Pacific Northwest where we call home. ¬†Soon the snow will be falling…

Autumn’s Display¬†of¬†wild rose hips always dazzle me in the fall. ¬†Especially on a sunny, blue-sky day:

IMG_3435

It is always sad to see the lake season end as we will miss our lake friends. We will also miss the lake and this stunning view:

IMG_3416

Yet, I look forward to more time in my art studio in Autumn.

The crisp, cool air of October is Apple Harvest time too!

IMG_3486

This week my art these will be focusing on APPLES… I hope you stop by for a bite or two…

On Monday, I will share my process for creating this art piece. ¬†(I also discovered some ways to “fix” mistakes that may be of interest to you!)

Do you have 4 seasons where you live?  What is your favorite time of year?

Cheers! ūüôā

Autumn’s Memory Fades

I was inspired by Jodi at The Creative Life In Between to create this haiku for today.

Bare branches reaching,

Outstretched arms towards the sun,

Autumn’s memory fades…

img_8749

Days become shorter,

Frosty fingers leave their mark,

Freezing seed heads droop.

img_8656

Colors change from gold,

Paperlike flowers pressed,

Winter’s icy breath.

Wishing you a Sunny Sunday, friends!

Cheers!¬† ūüôā

Maple Trees

I have always loved maple trees Рtheir sturdy branches, autumn display, not to mention their lovely leaf shape!

I planted a Maple tree a few years ago and was recently inspired by its leaves in my yard:

To create this collage last week in my art journal:

img_8700

I used a copy of an¬†old photo of someone I didn’t know, a song from a children’s songbook, my Gelli-printed deli paper, a¬†Maple¬†leaf rubber stamp and an actual Maple leaf to create a cut-out of a leaf with handmade marbled¬†paper I purchased.

It looks to me like this little boy would love to be climbing a Maple tree or swinging from its branches on a swing!

Wishing you a happy day with sweet memories from¬†your childhood!¬† ūüôā

Good Gourd!

I was inspired by the gourds I saw on Sunday:

To create¬†this “Autumn Winged Variety” bird:

Happy Weird Bird Wednesday, Friends!!¬† ūüôā

One never knows where inspiration will¬†inspire¬†you… Lol!
