For The Birds…

I recently completed this 1000 piece jigsaw puzzle (size is approximately 19 x 27 inches). It is Birds of Western North America.

It caught my attention because it had BIRDS! (120 of them)

Thank goodness the birds were numbered on the puzzle, although the numbers were very, very tiny on the box photo. It did come with a identification chart.

Today’s weird bird is called, Scrambled as in my mind after finishing this puzzle!

Searching for beaks, feet, tail feathers, wings, eyes… oh, my!

If you are looking for a challenging jigsaw puzzle, you may like it…

I’m going back to a less complicated puzzle. This one is definitely for the birds!

Happy Weird Bird Wednesday!

Cheers! 🙂

New Eyeglasses

I can see clearly now…

I wonder do birds ever lose their eye sight?

My eyesight continues to get worse as I age. I recently ordered new eyeglasses with new frames. They are ready for me to pick them up today, I can’t wait!

New eyeglasses were my inspiration for today’s weird bird.

Do you wear eyeglasses or do you prefer contacts? Perhaps you have excellent vision and don’t need either!

Happy Weird Bird Wednesday!

Cheers! 😎

Hello Friend!

My husband and I had to travel to Detroit, Michigan recently.

I messaged my blogging friend, Patty Anne who I knew lived in the area for suggestions on good restaurants.

Not only did Patty Anne have some great food ideas, she rearranged her schedule so we could meet in person! I was thrilled!!

Hello friend!!

We met for dinner and each of us brought an art journal or two to share. We had a blast! I so LOVE Patty Anne’s art!! Seeing her creativity in person was an extra special treat!

And speaking of treats, she made me this sweet little birdy in watercolor:

She even tied it with a bow and added a couple of her special flowers!

I am so touched by her kindness.

We were having so much fun that we forgot to take a photo of us together which just means we have to get together again!

I have been practicing art in “Patty Anne’s style” so I can make her a little gift.

Thanks Patty Anne for such an enjoyable evening. Your friendship across the miles was the highlight of my trip!

Cheers to Blogging Friendships! 🙂

PS. I do hope you check out Patty Anne’s art if you aren’t familiar with it! She paints with JOY!

Petal Punch

I discovered this super FANTASTIC flower punch at Hobby Lobby before my hip surgery:

I love that I can use both the positive and negative of each petal punch!

Below are some examples of handmade cards I recently made using this punch:

Do you have a favorite?  I hope you share it with me!

Cheers! 🙂

Welcome…

I was looking for a Welcome sign for my front doorstep the other day… And I discovered this sign at Hobby Lobby.

I didn’t like the colors of the wood birds so I unscrewed them and darkened them with acrylic paints.

Hubby helped me hang it on the siding of our home… it looks more inviting now…

How do you welcome people to your home?!  Do you decorate your doorstep?

Cheers! 🙂

Letter “B” Is For…

Birds!!!  Of course! 😉

This Brown-Headed Bridge bird was caught with its hand beak in the bark butter again!

Kathy at Backyard Bird Nerd is a big believer of feeding bark butter to the bazillion birds that flock to her yard!

I hope you check out Kathy’s blog if you too want a treat of beautifully photographed birds (and butterflies in the summer too!)

Happy Weird Bird Wednesday!

Cheers! 🙂

A Little Silly Fun…

I needed a gift for a “white elephant gift exchange.”  I’m not quite sure where this terminology came from as it has nothing to do with elephants! 😉

To me, it means to re-gift something I received and don’t need or perhaps, give something “creative.”

I decided on a little silly fun this year and created this one-of-a-kind gift!

A “Caroler” in a former life that I purchased at a thrift store years ago, I made him into a quirky guy that loves the lake!

It was super fun to create a poem to go with him… I will get to that later in this post.

This silly guy actually moves – his head slowly turns in circles and his right arm moves up and down when he is plugged in to an outlet.  A little weird, I must say!

I started by giving him an old cup for a hat and taped a bird on top.  The bird house came next.  On the back, I added this “key” message (from a candy wrapper):

He needed a beach towel, so I cut-up an old wash cloth and sewed the outside edges. I used a paper napkin to represent “happy hour” where friends gather to share an appetizer and a drink as you can see in my first photo.

Below, I created a fishing pole from an old paint brush and beads – including a bead for a fish:

He needed a little summer outfit so I sewed some fabric to give him some pizzazz and cover up that ugly green outfit he was wearing – who says men can’t wear skirts!! Hahaha!

I finished him, by adding a Christmas ornament of a chair, a rubber stamp image of an image in the woods and writing a message on the base:

Below is one of the stanzas I wrote for my poem to the song, “Over The River And Through The Woods.”

Over the river and through the woods

We look forward to each year…

The memories we make

At this beautiful lake

Are the treasures we hold dear.

I look forward to seeing who receives my creative surprise… I encourage you to “think outside the box” when you give a gift!

Cheers! 🙂

Bird Watching

I think I saw a Mountain Chickadee on my Crabapple tree yesterday morning…

That was before my cat, The Bird Watcher scared it away!

It was my inspiration for a page in the art journal that I told you about in my post here:  The Art Of Noticing

I must say, it was super fun to color with my Prismacolor pencils in a rainbow of colors!  I felt like a child again.

What creative activities help you feel young at heart?! ❤️  I hope you share them with me.

Happy Bird Watching!  🙂

Shake Your Tail Feathers!

It seems I forgot that yesterday was Draw A Bird Day – unofficial of course but celebrated on the 8th of each month by some of my talented art and bird friends! 🙂

I may be a day late but I can still shake my tail feathers!

Celebrating that the weekend is here!  Hoorah!

Cheers! 🙂

Common “Redpoll” – 2

I haven’t drawn a bird for “Draw A Bird” day in awhile… so yesterday I decided to give it a try in my Alphabet Journal:

The letter “R” is for (Common) Redpoll:

IMG_2809

I sketched my bird in pencil, added Micron pen in brown and black ink, color pencils and white gel pen.  It was a good way to de-stress from my day! 😉

I painted this bird in a more whimsical style that you can find, here from 2016.

What a great little red hat this bird wears!

Cheers!  🙂

P.S. I almost didn’t create a post for today because my hubby and I were busy moving his mother into a retirement home so she could receive more care.  But I needed time to unwind so this was my way to relax!  Phew! 😯
