Ribbons Of Paint

Sometimes I just like to swirl my paintbrush around with watercolor in my art journal. No thinking involved… just playing with color:

Yesterday, I didn’t have much time but I still wanted to DO something! So I created this haiku over my ribbons of paint:

I remember using scissors to create ribbons for wrapped gifts before store bought bows became popular.  “Zip!!” And curls appeared like magic!

Wishing you a day with happy memories!

Cheers!  🙂

A Square Idea

I came up with this idea to draw nature’s patterns on small squares of paper.  I thought it might give me inspiration when I’m creating my art doodles.

The first ones I did on a 2 inch square piece of cardstock.  On the front is the pattern, shape or form of my subject in ink pen with color:

And on the back side is the date, identity of my subject and where I got my inspiration.

I discovered the 2 inch size paper to be too small so I changed to a 2.5 inch square.  Here are some squares I did recently:

Most of my inspiration for these subjects came from the internet.  These art squares are really fun to do and give me ideas for other art subjects to explore such as the eyes of animals.

I encourage you to give this square idea a try!

Cheers!  🙂

A Bouquet Of Inspiration

Perhaps you remember this doodle I recently started in my art journal, you can find it here.

I am please to say that it is finished!

img_9912

It is in my 5.5 x 7.5 inch art journal.  I used Micron pens on 140 lb hot press watercolor paper.

My husband gave me this beautiful bouquet of fresh flowers this week…

I now have a bouquet of inspiration to begin a new doodle!

May your day bloom with happiness!

Cheers!! 🙂

A Kaleidoscope of Color

I created my painted collage papers for the online collage class I told you about yesterday with the rice paper my kaleidoscope is on:

img_8908

I’ve always been AMAZED with the patterns, shapes and colors of a Kaleidoscope!  WOW!  🙂

And here are my papers I created with acrylic paints and a variety of patterns – using stencils, sea sponges and found objects:

And some neutral colors… with a spin of the kaleidoscope wheel:

Stay tuned for Thursday for more collage fun!  🙂

Cheers for color!!  🙂

Autumn’s Memory Fades

I was inspired by Jodi at The Creative Life In Between to create this haiku for today.

Bare branches reaching,

Outstretched arms towards the sun,

Autumn’s memory fades…

img_8749

Days become shorter,

Frosty fingers leave their mark,

Freezing seed heads droop.

img_8656

Colors change from gold,

Paperlike flowers pressed,

Winter’s icy breath.

Wishing you a Sunny Sunday, friends!

Cheers!  🙂

Looking For Stars

Do you ever have days (or weeks) when you are looking for stars like this quote I found on the internet?

“When it rains, look for rainbows… when it’s dark, look for stars.”  – Unknown

Perhaps those who need a burden or two lifted from their shoulders can SEE the pink STAR flower in this drawing…

May this drawing from my imagination bring you HOPE for tomorrow!

PEACE!  🙂

Fiddle Faddle

I’ve been trying to put the finishing colors on my doodle that I started awhile ago in my art journal.

It reminds me of the popcorn you can buy in the store called, Fiddle Faddle.  The popcorn and peanuts are covered with gooey caramel.  Yum!   Like the popcorn, I have a difficult time leaving my doodle alone.  I keep “fiddling” with it!

Here are some of the supplies I used on this doodle:

I started with watercolor but then tried gouache, Tombow markers, Inktense pencils, watercolor pencils and Prismacolor pencils.  😉

I learned a lot from my experiment with different mediums.  I learned NOT to use a water brush as I don’t have any control with it.  (I can’t stay within the lines).  I struggled with the Inktense pencils to get them to blend with other mediums.

I also learned to trust my instincts when it came to color and NOT coloring every doodle!  I hope you check out Annie Glacken’s doodles here that she did recently in watercolor.  My favorite is her Hummingbird!  🙂

You may recall my doodle progress where I last left off that you can find here.

Here is the completion of this doodle:

I tried to vary my color by creating depth and movement in my patterns.  I would love to know what you think!

Happy creating!!  🙂

Feeling Fallish

October.  I love this time of year as the leaves seem to change colors on a daily basis.

Mother Nature seems to have her own magical paintbrush!  I look out my kitchen window and see golden yellows, burnt oranges, olive greens and cheery reds blended with touches of purple every now and then!  🙂

Like these photos and a haiku –

A blushing blueberry,

A Crabapple’s golden show,

Fall beauty is here!

Wishing you a Sunny Sunday, Friends!  🙂

And perhaps a little time to marvel at Mother Nature’s artwork…

Cheers!

Air Cool And Crisp

We closed up our lake place yesterday.  My feelings are bittersweet.  I will miss the mountains, the lake, our friends and our weekend “get aways!”  Yet I’m looking forward to being home, snuggling with my cat while reading a good book and creating more art!  🙂

Brilliant blue sky,

Air cool and crisp…

Clouds form –

Leaves change…

And Autumn begins!

Wishing you a Sunny Sunday Friends!  🙂
