A Puzzler

I love to experiment with color and patterns, as you may already know! I find it very meditating.

I recently completed this doodle:

One of the things I did differently with this doodle was I added three flowers on top of my doodle that I printed on deli paper using my Gelli plate and a stencil.

What is really fun about printing on deli paper with fluid acrylics is that the pattern is transparent when you glue it down to your paper. You don’t see the deli paper. I printed my flowers in a light red color.

This time I took my experiment a step further and glued it over my doodle (with a glue stick). I next added further details with Copic markers and color pencils on top of the deli printed flowers. I didn’t know I could do that!

I also experimented creating patterns with color pencils in my doodle and coloring Copic markers over them.

Another great thing about creating a colorful doodle is making copies to use as collage. The colors came out exceptionally bright with the Copic markers.

And behold! I found a rabbit:

And a bird (think swanlike):

The journal is for my online class I’m taking with Carla Sonheim, The Year of the Rabbit. I added some postage stamps from other countries to add interest to my pages.

I hope you have fun doing some art experiments today! I’d love to hear what you are working on.

Happy Wednesday!

Cheers! 😃

A Jolly Old Elf…

This weird bird decided to dress up for the Holidays!

I’m sure Santa needs all the help he can get this time of year…

Happy Weird Bird Wednesday!

May your Holidays be filled with laughter and good cheer!

Wild Background

I like to sketch REAL birds every now and then…

These quick sketches inspired today’s hat wearing weird bird:

I like how the wild background makes the pencil sketch stand out.

What do you think?

On a sad note, I recently had to say goodbye to my sweet kitty, Jack who I have blogged about in several posts.

This picture shows Jack lying on the dried Catmint in our yard. One of his favorite spots to soak up the sunshine!

Jack is no longer in pain but I miss him a great deal. Always hard to loose a furry friend.

Happy Weird Bird Wednesday!

Cheers! 🙂

Weird Birds

This pattern has been showing up a lot in my journal:

I usually fill in the shape with collage paper scraps like this one:

I decided to try making a weird bird with this shape. I colored it with Copic markers and added a few doodles.

Here is the first one:

I had so much fun, I created a second one:

And a third one!

One never knows where the NEXT weird bird idea will come from!

Happy Weird Bird Wednesday!

Cheers! 🙂

A Scribble Bird

I learned this technique from Carla Sonheim.

You start with a scribble…

And then you try to find something to create out of it. It kind of looks like a bunny, doesn’t it?

Of course I found a weird bird in it!

I added a few more lines to create my Scribble bird. Next, I colored it with Copic markers:

Then added color pencils and pencil shading:

Here is a mouse I did previously in my art journal:

I challenge you to find an animal or bird in a simple scribble!

Happy Weird Bird Wednesday!

Cheers! 🙂

Smitten With Mittens

It is snowing buckets today in the Pacific Northwest where I live.

Imagine my surprise when I looked out my window and saw…

A flock of weird birds smitten with mittens!

Happy Weird Bird Wednesday!!

Cheers! 🙂

Lazy Susan

Susan always served the best appetizers for her feather friends…

She would sit down with a plate on her belly and slowly spin the plate around so everyone could sample the seeds…

This is why she was nicknamed, Lazy Susan.

One never knows what will inspire a silly weird bird!

I drew this pattern with Copic markers yesterday evening:

Earlier in the day, I painted these papers:

It was to create this project:

I hope you let your imagination soar!

Happy Weird Bird Wednesday!

Cheers! 🙂

P.S. I’m posting a little late today… feeling kind of lazy I guess! 😉

A Carnival Ride

My mark making has the feel of being on a carnival ride…

I started this doodle over a month ago and just finished it Saturday:

I used Micron pens and a new set of Uni-ball fineliner drawing pens.

Perhaps it influenced this one in my sketchbook with Copic Markers and Micron pens:

And the bright colors of watercolor, Neocolor crayons and Copic Markers in this one, definitely make me feel like having some cotton candy! Lol!

Sometimes life can feel a little like a carnival ride with its unexpected twists and turns.

I find creating marks and patterns quiets my mind and helps me tune out life’s stressful times.

Peace be with you! 🙂

Cheers!

Waiting Game

I have been preparing for a total hip replacement surgery on my right hip in less than 2 weeks…

Making extra meals for the freezer and creating easy recipes for my hubby. I am trying to tidy up the house too. 😉

It feels like a waiting game so in order to relax I have been doing more doodling:

I started each one with Copic Markers:

Adding black Micron pen on top:

It has been fun experimenting with color and patterns. I will make copies and use these patterns in my collages.

What do YOU do to pass time when you are waiting?

Cheers! 🙂

P.S. I will be taking a short blogging break and posting only on Instagram for awhile. You can find me at art_jill_kuhn on Instagram.
