It is snowing buckets today in the Pacific Northwest where I live.
Imagine my surprise when I looked out my window and saw…
A flock of weird birds smitten with mittens!
Happy Weird Bird Wednesday!!
Cheers! 🙂

Susan always served the best appetizers for her feather friends…
She would sit down with a plate on her belly and slowly spin the plate around so everyone could sample the seeds…
This is why she was nicknamed, Lazy Susan.
One never knows what will inspire a silly weird bird!
I drew this pattern with Copic markers yesterday evening:
Earlier in the day, I painted these papers:
It was to create this project:
I hope you let your imagination soar!
Happy Weird Bird Wednesday!
Cheers! 🙂
P.S. I’m posting a little late today… feeling kind of lazy I guess! 😉

My mark making has the feel of being on a carnival ride…
I started this doodle over a month ago and just finished it Saturday:
I used Micron pens and a new set of Uni-ball fineliner drawing pens.
Perhaps it influenced this one in my sketchbook with Copic Markers and Micron pens:
And the bright colors of watercolor, Neocolor crayons and Copic Markers in this one, definitely make me feel like having some cotton candy! Lol!
Sometimes life can feel a little like a carnival ride with its unexpected twists and turns.
I find creating marks and patterns quiets my mind and helps me tune out life’s stressful times.
Peace be with you! 🙂
Cheers!

I have been preparing for a total hip replacement surgery on my right hip in less than 2 weeks…
Making extra meals for the freezer and creating easy recipes for my hubby. I am trying to tidy up the house too. 😉
It feels like a waiting game so in order to relax I have been doing more doodling:
I started each one with Copic Markers:
Adding black Micron pen on top:
It has been fun experimenting with color and patterns. I will make copies and use these patterns in my collages.
What do YOU do to pass time when you are waiting?
Cheers! 🙂
P.S. I will be taking a short blogging break and posting only on Instagram for awhile. You can find me at art_jill_kuhn on Instagram.

Yesterday, it was unusually cold in the Pacific Northwest where I live…19 degrees Fahrenheit! Brrr!
It inspired me to create this silly weird bird drawing in my sketchbook:
I added color with Tombow and Copic markers:
Whoa! Who turned up the freezer? I sure wish Mother Nature would turn up the thermostat!
Happy Weird Bird Wednesday!
Cheers! 🙂

I am creating mixed media abstract landscapes for my November square-a-day project.
I have discovered how much I enjoy creating these simple landscapes with copic markers and color pencils:
Most of the landscapes are from my imagination. I enjoy trying different color combinations to create a feeling or memory.
Sometimes I will finish them with a little collage. I added Gelli-printed deli paper to this square:
It reminds me of the lake and the repetitive sound of the waves on the sandy beach.
Cheers! 🙂

Hello Friends,
I hope you are enjoying my daily art squares as much as I’m having fun creating them!
I tried to tell a story in each art square with watercolor or Copic markers and a touch of collage. Sometimes I added a little Micron black pen too.
My stories for September’s square-a-day project are simple, something I did or saw or felt for that day.
I was inspired by the artwork in this book by Roxanne Evans Stout:
I hope you share favorite squares that may inspire you in your own stories…
Cheers! 🙂
P.S. In case you are wondering, square #17, the words say, “Ferris Wheel.” It was the name of a paint sample. I thought it looked like a child’s name. Our local fair occurs in September. 😉

I have been experimenting with Copic markers lately. I haven’t been a big fan of them in the past because the markers bleed through the paper.
I decided that I would give theses markers another chance.
I chose 140-lb hot press watercolor paper rather than a journal so I didn’t have to worry about the bleed through. I like how these markers dry evenly on my paper:
Next, I used Micron sepia .01 pen to accent shapes:
I used both .05 and .01 sized sepia ink pens to add my finishing details:
Here are the pen colors I used for this Copic doodle:
It was fun to experiment in colors I don’t normally use and leave some white space!
Have you used Copic markers? I’d love to hear your opinion about them.
Happy Friday!
Cheers! 🙂

Today I have a “gaggle” of weird birds!
I had so much fun making one that they quickly multiplied… kind of like a bunch of hangers on laundry day! Lol!
I drew these Hanger birds by looking only at my subject (a clothes hanger) and not at my paper.
I like how they came out a bit wonky…
Hang on! And have a happy Weird Bird Wednesday!
Cheers! 🙂
