Patterned Socks

I wrote a little Limerick for you today…

There once was a red-tailed hawk,

Who liked to wear patterned socks,

He was quite the sight,

Especially in flight…

All birds thought his socks made him rock!!

I’m wearing my patterned socks today, how about you?!

Happy Weird Bird Wednesday!!

Cheers!  🙂

And The Materials Are…

I wanted to show you the collage materials that went into making my weird bird from yesterday:

Did you guess ALL 10 materials?  Well, if not, let me help you out!

  1.  I started my bird collage with a word from this children’s dictionary for my bird’s body.  It started me thinking about a sewing theme.

2.  I altered pages from this old sewing book with acrylics before using it as part of the bird’s tail and nest materials.

3.  I color copied a doodle I did previously and cut it up for my bird’s hat.

4.  I used my gelli-printed deli papers for my bird’s head, wing and nest materials.

5.  A paint sample card for the bird’s eye but I didn’t like the yellow color so I turned it over and used the other side with the bar code!

6.  An old button was perfect for the top of the hat.

7.  A sequin for the eye.

8.  Old sheet music that I gelli-printed for the base of the nest.

9.  Swedish Tracing Paper that I had gelli-printed a feather stencil – this tracing paper feels more like a fabric.  It is a super fun material to collage with BTW!  I think I purchased it on Amazon.  It comes in a large roll.  I used it under the bird’s body for the nest.

10.  Tissue from an old dress pattern was used over the sheet music for the nest – a fun element of surprise. 😉

I usually use a glue stick to glue everything down and outline my bird with pencil to give it a little dimension.

I hope you enjoyed seeing the FUN I put into this BEST Dressed Bird!

Cheers! 🙂

Sew It Seams…

Some days I’m “drawn” to words in the dictionary to create a weird bird.  I often have no idea what I’m going to create and for me this is really fun!  😉

Sew it seams was the case for the Dressmaker bird:

If a bird could design a dress, do you think they would use the feather stitch?

Happy Weird Bird Wednesday!

Cheers! 🙂

A Slide View

I inherited all my parent’s slides and the slide projector.  I have been meaning to view them again.  I have fond memories from my childhood of watching them and eating popcorn in the living room of my family home…

This may sound silly when everything is so digitized today but there was something special about the hum of the fan, the click of the slides and watching photos of us appear on a “big” screen!  🙂

So today’s weird bird, A Slide Masked Owl is in memory of those simpler times:

Perhaps you didn’t grow up viewing slides on a projector but maybe you slid down a slide or two…

Happy Weird Bird Wednesday!

Hope you “slide” through your day with a smile on your face!

Cheers! 🙂

A Sizzling Bird

A sassy Sash bird sizzles in the scorching summer sun:

With temps into the high 90’s this week in the Pacific Northwest… this bird is not the only one feeling the heat!

Happy Weird Bird Wednesday!

Stay Cool!  🙂

The Spectacle Bird

I speculate…

The spectacular,

speckled

Razzle-dazzled…

The crowd of spectators!

Happy Weird Bird Wednesday!

Cheers! 🙂

A Celebration!

Today we lift our beakers earthenware jugs… Celebrating Weird Bird Wednesday!

I have been posting a weird bird almost every Wednesday for over a year!  Thank you Harold for introducing the idea!  And thanks to ALL of you, my flock of followers!  😉

I decided to post the prehistoric “Beaker Bird” since it was wearing a cone-shaped beaker hat for the occasion.

IMG_1989

During prehistoric times, the Beaker Bird’s beak (try saying that three times fast!) was about the size of a large Cadillac… But as time evolved, its beak shortened to the size of a Mini Cooper.

Happy Weird Bird Wednesday!  Cheers! 🙂

P.S. If you want to see more of my weird birds, click on the catagory, “Weird Bird Wednesday” on the right (under categories).

Vim And Vigor

Vim out on a limb…

Looking slim!

IMG_1910

Reminds me of  Vigor  Tim,

Who has been to the gym…

IMG_1909

Pumping iron to stay trim!

Happy Weird Bird Wednesday!!

Cheers! 🙂

Maid In The Shade

I’ve heard of a housewife…

And a househusband,

But a housebird?!!  How absurd!

Well, maybe not…

IMG_1634

Ha!  A bird has a built-in “feather duster!”

Happy Weird Bird Wednesday!

Cheers! 🙂

Starlings Java

I wonder if a bird drank KAWF-ee …

Would it order it to go from the “fly-by” window at Starbucks Starlings Java?

IMG_1375

Would it order one shot of expresso or two?

I suppose that would depend on the species of bird…

“I’ll take a Tall, Skinny, Half-Decaf, No-Whip Mocha, please!”

How do you like your coffee?

Happy Weird Bird Wednesday! 🙂

P.S.  I enjoyed reading your responses for my dancing bird last Wednesday!  I got my boot off my foot and I can start wearing a shoe again!  Hoorah!!  A good reason to dance!  🙂
