Be Square!

Perhaps you remember my post last week where I told you about my Square A Day project.  If not, you can read more about it here:  A Square A Day…

I recently finished the square doodle that inspired the idea for my project:

I’ve titled it, Be Square!

I created a box for my 2019 square project with monthly dividers.  I am writing notes on the back of each card with the date, description and inspiration for the square.  I may use my completed squares for inspiration when I get stuck in a creative rut in the future.

Below are six squares I have completed for January:

I find myself paying more attention to my environment and ideas I could use for future squares…

I think for once in my life, I’m OK to be square!

Cheers!  🙂

A New Art Journal

I LOVE starting new art journal…  Just think of the possibilities!! 😃

A friend I met in the beginning of my WordPress journey – Laura @createarteveryday – who is now posting only on Instagram, told me about this journal from Ranger/Dina Wakley:

I purchased the 8×10 inch size journal at Amazon.  It has about 3-4 different surfaces in it, one of them being burlap which I have never journaled on… I’m curious to see what happens with it!

Laura says that Dina Wakley has several mixed media art videos available on YouTube using this journal.  I look forward to checking them out!  🙂

My first page, I started with a stencil of my hand…

And before I knew it, the wheels of my imagination started turning…

I added color with Ink Tense Blocks, Neocolors, Ecoline watercolor (the pink swirls of color), Gesso on the hand and for the flowers, fluid acrylics and stencils finishing with a black Micron pen and white gel pen.  Basically, a little of this and that!  Lol! 😉

It is busy and colorful and FUN!!

I look forward to exploring MORE mixed media with this new art journal!

Cheers! 🙂

Ideas For A Zen Doodle

Perhaps you remember this doodle I recently started, if not you can find it here:  Creative Doodling…

I recently finished it!  🙂

It always feels good to finish one because then I get to start a new one!

I get inspiration from a variety of patterns to create my designs.  I wondered if YOU had an idea for me for my next zen doodle?  I hope you share it with me!

Cheers! 🙂

Bird-Dog Tired…

I was feeling dog-tired yesterday after work so I decided to mix things up for today’s Weird Bird Wednesday.

When I posted this doodle on Instagram recently, my sweet and talented friend, Carol at Carolscreativepapers.wordpress.com  told me she saw a bird and dog in it:

What do you see?  I hope you share it with me!

I find creating these zen doodles very meditative.  I always enjoy it when I get one completed because it means I can start something new!

Wishing you a happy day!

Cheers! 🙂

A Colorful Doodle Fish

I had planned to create more than fish this week but life has gotten in the way!  So here is my doodle fish I drew with a black Micron pen earlier this week:

Last night I colored it with markers and color pencils – very fun! And colorful!

What do you think about coloring books for adults? Have you purchased them?

I find doodling and coloring to be very calming… how about you?

Cheers! 🙂

A Square Idea

I came up with this idea to draw nature’s patterns on small squares of paper.  I thought it might give me inspiration when I’m creating my art doodles.

The first ones I did on a 2 inch square piece of cardstock.  On the front is the pattern, shape or form of my subject in ink pen with color:

And on the back side is the date, identity of my subject and where I got my inspiration.

I discovered the 2 inch size paper to be too small so I changed to a 2.5 inch square.  Here are some squares I did recently:

Most of my inspiration for these subjects came from the internet.  These art squares are really fun to do and give me ideas for other art subjects to explore such as the eyes of animals.

I encourage you to give this square idea a try!

Cheers!  🙂

Just Leaf It

We are having a really late Spring this year.  So I have been doodling leaves in my sketchbook, dreaming of warmer weather:

Perhaps you remember me starting this as a watercolor on a previous post?  If not, you can find it here.

It was a fun “branching out” and trying things in a different order.  However, I like creating the doodle first and then adding color, what do you think?

Cheers!  🙂

A Bouquet Of Inspiration

Perhaps you remember this doodle I recently started in my art journal, you can find it here.

I am please to say that it is finished!

img_9912

It is in my 5.5 x 7.5 inch art journal.  I used Micron pens on 140 lb hot press watercolor paper.

My husband gave me this beautiful bouquet of fresh flowers this week…

I now have a bouquet of inspiration to begin a new doodle!

May your day bloom with happiness!

Cheers!! 🙂

Spring Flowers

We had sunshine and warmer temperatures recently in the Pacific Northwest.  It had me dreaming of Spring and flowers…

So I started this doodle last night in my art journal:

This drawing is only the beginning… just like the promises of Spring in a month or two!

Wishing you a day filled with sunny thoughts!

Cheers!  🙂

Holiday Pops!

I have made progress on adding color to my doodle I posted last Friday, you can find it here.

I decided to try Holbein gouache because I just purchased some new colors that really POP!

img_8982

Cynthia at Sand Salt Moon suggested I try lime green with bright pink and red.  Yet, I couldn’t resist adding orange which led to yellow…

img_8990

And then I added a little red which led to violet…

img_9006

And WOWZA!!  It really POPS…My eyeballs!!!  Lol!  🙂

I lost some of my black lines with the paint so I will need to go back and add them again.  And a little pencil shading so it’s not complete yet…but I wanted to add some Holiday POP to your day!

Hope you are feeling dazzled!  Cheers!!  🙂
