A Doodle Day

I was thankful that I didn’t have to cook the Thanksgiving dinner yesterday.  We joined my hubby’s family with a household of LOTS of people!  I’m not used to being around this many people so I found it calming to create this doodle in my art journal:

It was fun to add pattern to the negative space.  Tomorrow I hope to add color to the positive shapes.

Wishing you a fabulous Friday!!  Cheers!  🙂

A DisaPEARing Act

Yesterday’s post is a hard act to follow but I’m going to give it my best shot!

The shape apPEARed first… so I added patterns with a black Micron pen:

Next, I added color sparingly with watercolor:

And finished it with pencil shading to add the PEARfect dimension:

PERhaps you remember my 3 Pear Doodle from last year?  You can see it here.

Thank goodness Friday is here or should I say, has apPEARed!  Lol!

Cheers!!!  🙂

Around The Bend

I have made progress to my doodle I started last week.  Here is where I left off:

I was having fun doodling all the twists and turns so I had to add a few more to my design:

It’s almost done!  Next I will add color…

Sometimes life is like this doodle, I can’t wait to see what is just around the bend!  I’m looking forward to taking a couple of new online art classes that I will share with you next week.

What are you looking forward to?  I’d love to hear from you!

Wishing you a Sunny Sunday, friends!!  🙂

Perhaps you will find a little time to enjoy nature’s beauty around the bend or backyard like these photos I recently took:

Sweet Pea – 2

I started a new doodle in my art journal yesterday.  I like the organic feel to it:

It reminds me of a previous doodle about a cat that I named, Sweet Pea that you can find here and here.

I haven’t done a doodle that connected to a second page before now.  I’m liking the flow of it.  I hope to add color to this one so stay tuned!

Work has been extremely busy this week so not much time for art.  Yet, I try to squeeze it in a little doodling in the evening.

I’m doing my happy dance that it’s Friday!  Wishing you all a fabulous weekend!

Cheers!  🙂

Raining Buttons

It has been raining most of the weekend here in the Pacific Northwest.  I find doodling in the evening keeps my hands busy and I enjoy creating patterns and playing with color.

I created these two pages of circle patterns recently in my new art journal and they remind me of buttons:

I found this quote on the internet:

“I cannot count my day complete, ‘Til needle, thread and fabric meet.” – Author Unknown  I used to find joy in cross-stitch, then beading and now mixed media art…

For me today, “I cannot count my day complete, ‘Til pen or brush and sketchbook meet!”

Wishing you a Sunny Sunday, Friends…

“In the crazy quilt of life, I’m glad you are in my block of friends!”  – Author Unknown

Cheers!  🙂

Monday – A Bit Scary!

Some times Monday feels a bit scary…  After a relaxing weekend, it feels a little frightening to go back to work and face all the demanding “monsters” of Monday morning!  :-0

Kind of like this doodle…how many spooky faces can YOU find?

This is a completion of the piece I started here.  Afterwards I saw some great ideas for carving pumpkins, how about you?!  Others see coffee cup stains, onion rings…

Wishing you a Monday that isn’t too scary!  😉

Power Surges

As I started to write this post, we had a power surge and the paper shredder (that hasn’t been used in months!) decided to turn on loudly!  The only way to stop the noise was to unplug it!  Pretty weird!  😉

It reminds me of creating art.  Sometimes I have my own “power surges!”  Lol!  When I don’t think I have enough time to create art, I somehow find the TIME!  And I start creating MORE art!

Today’s art is inspired by my annual flowers (before Jack Frost!) and my Crapapple tree as it begins to change to it’s autumn dress:

I drew a pattern in my sketchbook first with Micron .08 black pen and then painted it with gouache paint.

Do you think it’s done?  I’m not sure…  I think it may need another layer of color.

Happy Creating!!  🙂

Returning To Work…

I’ve recently had to return to work in my husband’s business.  It has been an adjustment for me.

I find simply creating something – no matter how small or simple, helps relax me in the evening after work.  I’m reminded that it isn’t completing a masterpiece that is important but just doing some ART that brings me JOY!  🙂

I started a new (purchased) journal today from Strathmore (since my handmade journal is still in process) –

I love the soft cover and can’t wait to decorate the inside cover like I suggested in yesterday’s post!

It was relaxing to draw circles with Tombow  water soluble markers (and Artist Loft which are a cheap brand at Michael’s).  ADD water with a water brush and then MAGIC happens when the colors blend together!

I started to add some highlights of my white space with a black Micron .01 pen:

This is so FUN!  I love the colors and can’t wait to finish dooding!

Happy Creating!  🙂

Sunny Sunday

Hello Friends!

Welcome to another Sunny Sunday!  A day to enjoy life to the fullest – whatever that means for you!  🙂

For me, it means a day to unplug from the computer and enjoy some “me” time.  Today I’m going to do some reading – I’m reading the book, “Big Magic” by Elizabeth Gilbert – have you read it?

And I hope to spend some quality time with my hubby by going for a walk outside – weather permitting!

2016-1-8 Colbie Caillat and journal play for Sunny Sunday

Speaking of relaxing, I created this drawing in my journal this week while I was listening to the album, “Coco” by Colbie Caillat.  It was fun to experiment with some new art mediums such as Prismacolor markers, new colors of Tombow markers and a Lamy fountain ink pen!  Whahooo!

Other art mediums I used were color pencils, a gold gel pen, collage papers and a black Zig writer pen.

Wishing you a sunny day!  🙂

Have A Purr-fect Day!

Jack with Santa hat

Mom thought I looked cute posing with this Santa hat…

But I was having the purr-fect nap before being rudely awakened!

So I decided to attack the hat:

And since I was now AWAKE, I decided to go outside and explore:

Jack on deck

Hmmm, this looks awfully cold….  And you know I hate getting my paws wet!

The tree looks really pretty from the DECK, don’t you agree?

Mom wanted to show you this ornament she made but since I can’t PLAY with it, I think it’s kind of boring…

Ornament Doodle

I have my very own Christmas tree as all cats should!

Home is where the cat is!

But it is kind of boring because there aren’t any ornaments for me to REMOVE with my paws…

So guess I will go back and have another nap.  The couch is the best place for a nap in case you didn’t know.  Especially after all the Christmas festivities.

Hope you are having the purr-fect day like me!

Love,

Jack
