Remember when life gets a bit hairy…

Sometimes it helps to laugh! 🙂

Happy FUNny Fish Fry-Day from the Muscle Fish!

Cheers! 🙂

And The “Sweepstake” Winner Is…

For today’s FUNny Fish Fry-Day we have a riddle…

What kind of fish is a sweeping success?

The Broom Fish!

Can you imagine ALL that sweeping that needs to be done on the ocean floor?!  Phew! 😉

I hope your day sweeps you into a FINtastic weekend!

Cheers! 🙂

Carnivals, Clouds And Cats

My blog title sounds like it could be part of the lyrics from Joni Mitchell’s song, “Both Sides Now.”  😉

However, my post today does involve some illusions… and imaginary fish!

The Carnival Fish was created by making copies of my “Bearded Hat Fish,” that you can find here:  What Rhymes With Weird?!   My copier was about out of ink so the fish is more yellow in color than my original.

I made two copies of my fish and lined up the images together in one stack.  I then cut 1/2 inch strips being careful to keep my images in the order of my design.  Next, I glued the two exact image strips next to each other on a piece of heavier paper with a glue stick.  This gives it the affect that reminds me of the mirrors in a carnival thus the name.

The Cloud Fish reminded me of the lazy days of summer and seeing shapes in the clouds…  My haiku says, “Lazy Cloud fish swim, Above the sea in blue skies, Slowly passing by.”

IMG_3373

I created it with color pencils and Copic markers.  What other images do you see in the clouds beside the fish?

My Jack Fish is a drawing of my cat, Jack – you can see a photo of him here: Why A Cat Needs An Umbrella    My cat loves to eat canned cat food – especially FISH!  (No, he doesn’t actually eat the whole fish but it makes for a good drawing.) Lol!

IMG_3376

There actually is a REAL fish called a Jack fish!  Did you know that?!

I hope you enjoyed my imaginary fish!  Maybe they will inspire you to create with your imagination.

Cheers! 🙂

Oh, Carp!

If you read my post from yesterday, I shared that today I would show you a piece of art that was a mistake or maybe what I should call an “unsuccessful experiment!”

IMG_3346

I can’t really remember my reasoning for creating this acrylic painting on pastel paper… but it didn’t turn out that great… I think we all have these unsuccessful art pieces!  Am I correct?! 😉

Yesterday, I made it into a fish… An “uncommon” Carp:

I’m liking it much better now!

I encourage you to keep your “mistakes” and turn them into “possibilities” at a later date!

Cheers! 🙂

Seven Fish Haiku

I learned this technique from Carla Sonheim to create a drawing with just seven lines.  Carla calls it a haiku drawing, I call it FUN!  🙂

I created seven different shapes of fish – each one with just seven lines in my sketchbook:

Next, I brushed some watercolor paint onto my Gelli Plate and stamped it onto my paper.  I love the unexpected results of this technique!

IMG_3314

I like that the Gelli Plate is available in a variety of sizes now such as this one which is 3 x 5 inches:

Have you ever used a Gelli Plate for stamping or monoprinting?  I’d love if you shared your experience with me!

Cheers! 🙂

Raining Fish

Well, it isn’t exactly raining fish but we FINALLY got some rain last night!  YAY!!

I took this photo of a dark cloud from my deck last evening with promise of more rain:

I thought you may enjoy seeing my “fresh catch of creative fish” that I have posted on Instagram recently:

I have been trying different art mediums – the shadows were an unexpected surprise in this one:

And I’m enjoying mixing in some humor:

Trying my hand at watercolor in my art journal:

And creating a silly paper collage:

Hope you enjoyed seeing my variety of fish that were on the menu this last week!

St. Peter’s Fish

As many of you know, I love learning new things!  🙂

My recent art challenge of creating 50 fish on Instagram has left me fishing for information about this subject.

We can learn a ton on the internet but I also LOVE books!! So I purchased this book recently from Amazon:

IMG_3246

This is a great book for “kids of all ages!”  I love all the amazing photos and also the basic information such as how fish swim.

I drew this one-liner fish, “John Dory” also known as St. Peter’s Fish from this book:

IMG_3243

Do you see the false eye on the side of the fish?

According to legend, over 2000 years ago, St. Peter dropped a coin in the Sea of Galilee and the fish caught it.  St. Peter picked the fish up and took the coin back, leaving his fingerprints on the skin of the fish…

This is an odd-looking fish found in European waters.  It is oval with a flat body and a large spiny head.  The white boneless, meaty flesh is firm and flavorsome if cooked properly.  It is condsidered a culinary delicacy.

I hope you found it as interesting to learn about as I did.

Cheers to learning new things!  🙂

A Fish Walks Into A Bar…

A little fish joke for you today…

IMG_3231

Hahaha! I hope this gives you a smile today!

Happy Weird Bird Wednesday with a Fish twist!!

Cheers! 🙂

Some Strange Fish

When I was a child, I’d often wondered what strange fish were swimming in the dark blue lake water below me…

IMG_3225

A person’s imagination can go wild!! Lol! 😉

Starting from the top of the page to the bottom – what names of fish do you come up?  I hope you share them with me!

Cheers! 🙂

A Colorful Doodle Fish

I had planned to create more than fish this week but life has gotten in the way!  So here is my doodle fish I drew with a black Micron pen earlier this week:

IMG_3145

Last night I colored it with markers and color pencils – very fun! And colorful!

IMG_3172

What do you think about coloring books for adults? Have you purchased them?

I find doodling and coloring to be very calming… how about you?

Cheers! 🙂
