One “Grape” Fish

I have been singing the song, well, not really THE song (MORE like the first stanza…)  I Heard It Through The Grapevine,” by songwriter, Marvin Gaye all day.

I think this whole grape thing started with Jenna’s post on Friday, Pour The Wine.  If you have not met this talented artist, cook and my friend at The Painted Apron – I do hope you check out her blog!

Here is my one “Grape” Fish:

Wishing you a HAPPY Sunday!

Cheers!  🙂

Perifish

I invented this word, perifish.

I thought it was an interesting word for this post about a pear and a fish.

I was experimenting with Rembrandt soft pastels yesterday and this wild pear apPEARed:

Do you think it is of the Rainbow variety?

And Sennelier extra soft pastels for this colorful fish:

It looks like a happy, Clown fish to me!

Color always brightens a cloudy day for me – I hope it brings you a smile!

Cheers! 🙂

Random Pick Drawing

One of the assignments I am enjoying from Carla Sonheim’s “365” online art class this year is Random Pick Drawings.

Carla chooses two words out of a hat and we are to create a drawing, using our own imagination.  Recently, she chose the words, fox + bucket so I created this picture:

“Mary Fox was excited to cross one of her dreams off her bucket list!”

I’d like to go on a hot air balloon ride some day too! 🙂

What’s one item on your bucket (wish) list?!  I hope you share your dream with me!

Cheers! 🙂

A Favorite Art Supply

Do you have a favorite ART supply?  I love my Prismacolor Pencils!

IMG_3705

I created this page in my art journal that I showed you in yesterday’s post.

Dick Blick was offering a fabulous sale on the Prismacolor Pencils so I splurged! 🙂

I have MANY art supplies that I like but these color pencils are something I use often in combination with other art mediums such as watercolor.

I think they are one of my favorites because of their creamy, soft leads and they come in MANY colors! ❤️

Do you have a favorite art supply?  I hope you tell me about it!

Cheers! 🙂

The Art Of Noticing

I recently started a new online class with Lynn Whipple called, “Joy Stuff – The Art of Noticing.”  The class is hosted by CarlaSonheim.com

This class is about creating art in a journal or sketchbook:

I liked that we would be using monoprints from the Gelli Plate (what I call gelli-prints) and inspiration from nature:

I also liked the idea of making pages in advance like the ones I did here:

IMG_3681

And then writing in them later or adding more art.  I know that I can always cover up what I don’t like with gesso! 😉

It is a new way of creating a journal for me – creating pages ahead of time so I am experimenting with new ideas:

Like adding a pocket as you can see on the left page above.  I also discovered that the washi tape adheres better with a little matte medium (glue) on top.

I will be posting more of my journal as I work on it.

And I’d love to hear your ideas!  I hope you share them with me.

Make today awesome!

Cheers! 🙂

Sew It Seams…

Some days I’m “drawn” to words in the dictionary to create a weird bird.  I often have no idea what I’m going to create and for me this is really fun!  😉

Sew it seams was the case for the Dressmaker bird:

If a bird could design a dress, do you think they would use the feather stitch?

Happy Weird Bird Wednesday!

Cheers! 🙂

Seeing Pink

Yesterday, I did a little printing on my Gelli-Plate – and maybe it was the color of the plastic table cloth…

IMG_3547

But I was SEEING pink!  🙂

IMG_3618

Maybe it was because I took a photo of these pretty pink roses in my yard before Jack Frost arrived:

Or seeing these blushing blueberry bushes:

I was definitely seeing PINK!

I’d love to hear how nature inspires you in your art making – I hope you share it with me!

Cheers! 🙂

Name That Fish!

Perhaps you remember my “put a BEAK on it,” birds?  If not you can find some of them here:  Chicken ‘A La King

Today I have “put a FIN on it,” fish!  I thought you might enjoy naming them:

Both are fun to create with scraps of paper and a little imagination… A fun project to do with children!

Cheers! 🙂

The Muscle Fish

Do you ever feel like you have to do a TON of heavy lifting?!

Well, today’s FUNny Fish feels like he is stretched to his max!

Remember when life gets a bit hairy…

Sometimes it helps to laugh! 🙂

Happy FUNny Fish Fry-Day from the Muscle Fish!

A Slide View

I inherited all my parent’s slides and the slide projector.  I have been meaning to view them again.  I have fond memories from my childhood of watching them and eating popcorn in the living room of my family home…

This may sound silly when everything is so digitized today but there was something special about the hum of the fan, the click of the slides and watching photos of us appear on a “big” screen!  🙂

So today’s weird bird, A Slide Masked Owl is in memory of those simpler times:

IMG_3383

Perhaps you didn’t grow up viewing slides on a projector but maybe you slid down a slide or two…

IMG_3387

Happy Weird Bird Wednesday!

Hope you “slide” through your day with a smile on your face!

Cheers! 🙂
