A Feature Creature – Part 2

I had so much FUN reading your names of my “exotic” creatures last Monday that I decided to create five MORE for you to name!!  In case you missed last week’s post, you can find it here; A Creature Feature – Part 1

So here is your assignment, if you choose to participate… NAME creatures 6-10 or ALL 10 if you missed last week!

I can’t wait to hear your creative names!! 😃

For this round of imaginary creatures I used pencil for shading and added details with Prismacolor pencils instead of an ink pen.  Do you have a favorite creature?

Cheers! 🙂

P.S. My heart goes out to all of you affected by Hurricane Harvey in the area of Houston, Texas.  Stay safe!

A Creature Feature – Part 1

Do you have a book or class that started you on your creative journey?

I discovered this book, “Drawing and Painting Imaginary Animals” by Carla Sonheim in December of 2012:

I discovered that Carla taught online classes from this book and so it started me drawing again!  I drew as a child but then I got discouraged… has this ever happened to you?

I liked the idea of drawing from my imagination.  After all, no one can tell you it isn’t correct if it is an imaginary animal!

Yesterday, I decided to revisit this book and create several watercolor “Blobimals” as Carla calls them:

Yet, I think mine look more like creatures! 😃

I thought it might be fun for YOU to name my five creatures so I numbered them.

Next Monday, I will reveal the other creatures!

I look forward to hearing your names.

Cheers!  🙂

Toucan Dan Can

Toucan Dan can balance a can bowl with a fish while spinning a dish…

And riding a squishy “Ish”!

May your balancing act (life) be full of happy surprises…

Happy Weird Bird Wednesday!

Cheers! 🙂

That’s Nonsense!

I think creating from my imagination is the most fun!  I hope you enjoy my ridiculous creatures:

I started each creature with a scrap of gelli-printed paper and then made up the rest of my animal, adding details with a black pen and color pencils.

And yesterday I created this silly Martian and told his story with this Limerick:

May it inspire the child in you to have fun and play in your art!

Cheers!  🙂

A Wild Beast?

I was learning a new art technique yesterday and this wild beast showed up!!

img_9963

It reminded me of one of my favorite childhood books, “Where The Wild Things Are,” by Maurice Sendak.

This technique is called a Notan which is about blocking out shapes in black and white in order to master shape recognition.  It  can help an artist learn composition in design.

I watched a YouTube video on how to make a Notan if you are interested in learning more about it.

Cheers!  🙂

Wild Things

Sometimes the holidays throw me a little off balance…like these imaginary creatures:

These creatures started as watercolor blobs of paint in my art journal:

Pencil and color pencils helped them spring to life – these Wild Things!!

Hope this gives you a smile today!  Happy Friday!!!

Cheers!  🙂

A Rare Sighting

We interrupt this scheduled post to announce a rare bird sighting… or maybe it’s a creature feature?!

A Splodge was spotted in Oaxaca, Mexico with his female partner, Splotch and their 3 offspring:  Blot, Botch and Spot…

One has to have an eagle eye and creative mind in order to spot such a rare find:

It also helps to have the very, talented Hannah at HannahBanana Crafts to mention the word, “Splodge,” in a comment to me on her blog.  This word led me to Splotch which Dictionary.com states is perhaps an origin of spot, blot and botch…

Thank you Hannah for the inspiration for my crazy birds!  😉

Happy Creating!

What’s In A Name?

The imaginary animal I created yesterday with the letter, “Y” inspired me to create these imaginary creatures with the letters of my name today:

Jill name

I think this would be a fun project for kids!  Especially around the holidays when they are on Christmas break from school.

Maybe they just want to create their initials:

JK initials

Or maybe they have a nickname:

Jilly creatures

I hope you have FUN creating imaginary creatures with someone you love!

Would love to see what you do!

Happy Creating!  🙂

Deck The Halls

Can you imagine naming your pet dog or cat, “Fa la la la la, la la la la?

image

If you were feeling jolly, would you sing it when calling your pet out the back door to come inside?

After awhile would you get tired of saying the whole thing and shorten its name to “Fa la la la?”

And if you were really frustrated, would you just say, “Fa la, get your butt in here before I deck you one!”  LOL!

Hope this makes you laugh today!  😜

Fa la la la la, la la la la!

Scrambled Eggs

Sugar plums were dancing in my head today…

Well, not exactly!  😉  I was dreaming of creating art but I took a nap instead!  I don’t know about you but sometimes naps energize me and other times they scramble my brain like eggs.

Today I felt scrambled afterwards…

That is when these two characters showed up in my art:

So I decided that maybe I needed a break from blogging for a couple of days. LOL!

Happy Creating!  😄
