Windows Into Time…

My husband’s mother has dementia and her memory is declining quickly.

It is difficult to visit her at the facility where she lives but she is always happy to see us.

I did this grid in my art journal using some of the blue-toned printed paper I showed you yesterday:

And as I was photographing the pieces of paper where I had punched out my squares, they reminded me of windows:

The book page I gelli-printed on and used in my grid was about flowering plants from an old botany book. My MIL loved planting flowers.

I wrote this haiku with her on my mind –

Windows into time…

Squares of golden moments shine,

Fading with memory.

Cheers! 🙂

Petals Fade

We had a sunny day mixed with rain yesterday. I took this photo of a rose bush in my yard.

I thought it was beautiful how the rain droplet was held within its petals like arms holding onto the end of summer.

It inspired me to write a haiku:

Last bloom before frost?

Petals fade but one remains…

Unfolding with hope.

May you find hope in the beauty that surrounds you.

Cheers! 🙂

Frosting Cupcakes

Sometimes making art is like… frosting cupcakes!

You start with a basic recipe, like paper collage:

Add some food coloring or Stabilo Woody water soluble pencils:

Whip up the sugar and cream in a bowl and do a taste test…maybe it needs a little more vanilla or perhaps something else?

When you are satisfied, the silky cream is spread over the miniature cakes. And then you realize it needs one more thing… Sprinkles!! Or art doodles!

I learned yesterday that sometimes it is the process of frosting cupcakes rather than the finished “art” product that is important.

I will be taking another short blogging break next week. I have some cupcakes to frost…

Cheers! 🙂

A Dipsy Doozy

I was having a root canal the other day…

And the Endodontist mentioned that I had a doozy of an infection in my tooth.

In order to distract me from the dentist drill, I started thinking about my weird bird for this week:

A Dipsy Doozy

A dipsy into my pocket book for a doozy of a tooth!

This bird’s name sounds better than a dentist drill, don’t you think?

Happy Weird Bird Wednesday!

Cheers! 🙂

Is Your Glue Bottle Half Full?

I’ve been working on my postcard art over the weekend that I told you about in my last post.  (Hint:  There is still time to participate in my free drawing… Just add a comment in my previous post!)

I used both positive and negative shapes in my design for this postcard:

It got me thinking about glue… I use a LOT of glue in collage.

Sometimes I get “stuck” on the negative of life, perhaps this is when my glue bottle is half empty?

Yet, I do try to focus on the positive… even when life is extra “sticky” and the glue makes my fingers stick together.  I’ve heard some people won’t do collage just for this reason alone!  đŸ˜‰

I don’t mind when the glue sticks to my fingers as it reminds me of my childhood when my glue bottle was ALWAYS half full!  And so was my imagination!

How about YOU?

Cheers! 🙂

Strange Inventions…

It is fun to glue shapes on paper and see what appears, like this collage in my art journal:

Sometimes adding doodles with a black pen helps me work through life’s problems.

Yesterday, these strange inventions appeared!

I wish the medical field could invent a cure for dementia… My hubby’s mom is really struggling with this terrible disease.  And we struggle finding her good care.

Sometimes it is these strange creatures or inventions that show up when I need a smile.

I hope this whimsy brings a smile to your day as well!

Cheers! 🙂

Switching Gears

Lately, I haven’t had much time for creative play…

And when I do, I seem to have difficulty switching gears in my brain from work to art!

86F7ABC6-2D15-44B2-B5DB-15827DAF534A

I really liked this quote from Audrey Hepburn; when life feels overwhelming or impossible, I need to switch gears in my thinking…

How about you, how do you get past the impossible to the I’m possible?

Cheers!  🙂

I Don’t Know…

Sometimes, I don’t know what to blog about…

Does this ever happen to you?

Or do you find yourself not knowing what to create?

I had another busy weekend with not much time to create art.

The new fridge was delivered on Saturday so we spent a greater part of the day cleaning inside and under the old fridge… before the new one could be installed.  (We moved the old fridge to the garage.)

One has to wonder why they have so many bottles of half used condiments just sitting around on a shelf, taking up space in the refrigerator.  😉

There was also those unexpected surprises, like the moldy cheese in an ugly shade of blue hiding in the corner or the lime that is no longer green.  (Oh, that’s what that was!)

The new fridge did get installed but the water hose leaked to the ice maker.  Luckily, my hubby was able to buy a part and fix it himself.  Fingers crossed that it is fixed! :-0

So back to creating art, I realize I got a bit off track…

I spent my evenings finishing this doodle of squares and circles with pencil shading:

I don’t know what month I will use it for my project… I’m finding planning ahead does have its advantages!  Like cleaning out under the fridge more than every 20 years…

Happy Monday!

Cheers! 🙂

Finding Balance

I started this drawing of squares and circles recently with a Micron black pen:

I was thinking of using a drawing for one of my monthly Square Projects;  you can read more about my project here: February’s Square Project

I think we all struggle with finding balance in one or two areas of our lives.  I know I do! 😉

Sometimes I wish life was as easy as balancing lights and darks like this collage:

E0525A7D-B6D0-4516-BB7C-F300D4581E7B

The collage is still waaay too busy for me, much like life is some times… and yet cutting up the original collage and rearranging the pieces helped me to focus on the whole picture, not just the annoying parts!

It also helped me create balance in this drawing:

Creating art teaches me a lot about finding balance in my life.  How about you?

My drawing is almost complete, next I will add pencil shading.

Cheers! 🙂

The Snowball…

When one idea leads to another, does it effect or affect you?  Good question!

A612C6BD-5BF9-4B7D-8134-815CF7F18D16

I have been working on this collage that influenced me from Color Play

It is a work in progress.  I’m not sure if it effects or affects me.  What does it do for you?

Wishing you a happy Monday!

Cheers! 🙂

P.S.  I’ve decided to take a little blogging break so will be posting; Monday, Wednesday and Friday through December.  Thank you for all your comments and likes! ❤️ I so appreciate it!! xo
