Drawing Apples

One of the assignments in the online class I recently did with Lendon Noe (see yesterday’s post for more information about the online class I took) was drawing apples.

I drew this apple in my sketchbook yesterday:

It felt really great to just DRAW without thinking about the outcome…

I used to do a lot of drawing in pencil when I was a child but then I let “other people’s opinions” stop me from doing what I loved.

This class helped me to ENJOY drawing again without thinking about the finished product.

One of our assignments was to draw apples – quickly – in any art medium – on a cheap pad of tracing paper.  It helped me to look at a REAL apple yet I think it REALly helped me to JUST DRAW…Without any thought of doing it RIGHT or WRONG!!

Below are my favorite apples I drew on tracing paper – some of the art mediums bled through to other pages which I think is kind of cool:

I hope my drawings encourage you to just DRAW and enjoy what you discover!

Cheers!  🙂

A Heart For Art

As many of you know, I LOVE color!!  When Carla Sonheim assigned a self-portrait for her year-long class, I couldn’t resist creating this paper collage of myself:

I realize it is MORE than just a self-portrait but after I saw a video about the Seattle artist, Kelly Lyles,  I decided to go WILD with color and patterns.

Perhaps you have heard of Kelly Lyles for her art cars?  Well, she also likes to dress, very colorfully!  😉

I hope to start wearing clothes with more color and patterns and care less about what others think!  How about you?  Do you like to dress conservatively or just have FUN?

Cheers!  🙂

Art – As A Distraction

I started one of my doodles recently… Knowing I would need a distraction:

I’m trying to prepare for foot surgerythe fusing of big toe on my left foot due to arthritis.

I try to keep my blog positive and not share this part of my life with you as I know we ALL have our problems!    And yet, I feel I need to share this part of my life with you now – not for your pity but for your understanding.  I live with chronic pain and osteoarthritis – why I create art with humor!  🙂

I’m scheduled for surgery on my left big toe, March 23rd.  I could use your good thoughts and prayers.

I have put off surgery for five years but I still worry about it.  Two weeks at home and at least six more weeks (plus or minus) recovery time.  Yes, I can drive after two weeks since it is my left foot.  😉

I’ve tried to plan ahead and stock the freezer and the cupboard for my hubby so he doesn’t have to get much take-out.  I’ve tried to get caught up with housework and laundry.  I have tried to get caught up at work (we work together).   And yet, I still think of things I didn’t do!

I will post a weird bird on Wednesday and maybe throw in a couple of unexpected posts here and there for a couple of weeks!  And I’m hoping I can get caught up with your blogs during this time!  🙂

I’d love it if you started a doodle to share with me!

Cheers!  🙂

The Fox Trot

My hubby and I took ballroom dances several years ago.  It was so much fun!  It challenges the mind and keeps one physically in shape… need to get back into it!  😉

This week has reminded me of the Fox Trot rhythm which is slow, quick, quick!  Lol!

Here is my slow part – painting my doodle in watercolor – making progress in this dance:

And a quick, quick flower sketch in my art journal with Tombow markers.  Added some water, white charcoal and color pencils to finish it:

Wishing you all a fantastic Saturday.. dancing to your own rhythm!!

Cheers!  🙂
