Lazy Susan

Susan always served the best appetizers for her feather friends…

She would sit down with a plate on her belly and slowly spin the plate around so everyone could sample the seeds…

This is why she was nicknamed, Lazy Susan.

One never knows what will inspire a silly weird bird!

Creative Play

Sometimes creative play in an art journal can be quite fulfilling.

I am discovering the joy of adding collage papers and marks without a outcome in mind.

This page I used a greeting card of a Ladybug that someone sent me. I altered it a little with my whole punch:

I had fun exploring funky flower shapes in this one and black and white stems:

My last one is a work in progress. As you can see, it involves BUGS!

My Lucky Bamboo

A friend bought me a houseplant. I tend to forget to water them so I figure this one must be lucky… it is still alive!

My lucky bamboo collage, cut with scissors and paper:

The second “houseplant” was from my imagination:

It was fun experimenting with positive and negative shapes.

A Slice of Color, Please!

I have been making collaged “color wheels” for an online class with Lynn Whipple for 2019 Year of the Collage.  I used a variety of papers, mostly my own.

They remind me of pizza…

I will take a slice of color, please!

I think color is the one thing that appeals to my “appetite” the most when I am creating – no matter what art medium I am exploring.

Petal Punch

I discovered this super FANTASTIC flower punch at Hobby Lobby before my hip surgery:

 

I love that I can use both the positive and negative of each petal punch!

A Lazy Daisy Day

Yesterday, I had a lazy daisy kind of day…

I was at the lake and the weather was very nice!

What a difference a week makes!  The photo below on the left was taken last weekend and the photo on the right shows how the beach chairs would NOW be under water!

The sunshine feels wonderful but we don’t need the snow in the mountains to melt too quickly!  Flood warnings are now in place…

Oh, the balance of nature… glad I’m not in charge! 😉

A Hemming Bird

Today, I decided to challenge myself by limiting my collage papers for creating a weird bird.

These are the materials I chose, some were sitting on my table from previous projects:

I cut out shapes and played with patterns until this Hemming Bird appeared from the coat factory family…

He (or she) was looking a little disheveled, so I added a few details to make him look im-pressive… hehe!

Flowers And Trees

I inherited my mom’s journal with 40 years of flowers and trees she planted in the yard where I grew up as a child.

I love that it is in her handwriting…

 

I treasure it too because it connects us together… we both love flowers and trees.

I’m taking an online class from Lendon Noe hosted by Carla Sonheim called, Inspired By Lives and Letters, which gave me the inspiration to create this piece:

I made a copy of watercolor painting I did last year and a copy of mom’s journal page from the year I was born… to connect our past and present together as a remembrance.

It is a way for me to have a lovely conversation with my past…

A way for me to say, “Happy Birthday,” to my mom whose birthday is approaching in early March even though she is no longer with us.

I’d like to think she would treasure it.

Opposites Attract…

Opposites attract…

You say blue and I say orange,

Love is color blind…

When I was creating my hearts yesterday, I noticed how cool to match two different heart “halves” to create a whole.

It reminded me of my hubby and I… he says, “Blue,” and I say, “Orange!”  So true!! Lol! ☺️

And yet we will be married 34 years in May!  😮 Seems like just yesterday that we said, “I do!”

If you were to combine two different hearts together, what would it look like?!

January’s Square Project

I decided to try a color scheme for January’s Square Project.  I used the colors from the thread and brayer technique that I shared with you here; A Daily Creative Practice

The color scheme with the threads is the left photo above.  The photo on the right is copy paper that I blotted my stencils on but I liked it so I used it too.

I decided to stencil the background paper before I added my squares.  I mixed two fluid acrylic paint colors together and used a damp sponge to apply the paint:

I connected the new paper to the December piece by overlapping them and glueing them together with Matte gel medium.  I reinforced the back with paper strips too.

Next, I glued my squares with Elmer’s extra strength glue stick:

It is looking busy so I added some circles to help focus your eyes on a random pattern:

I added stenciled flowers in pink on rice paper and a snowflake rubber stamp in blue to some of the circles.

I felt the blue snowflakes were a little bright, so glued deli paper over them to soften the image.

I also added circles of the thread pattern to the pink and white circles and finished them with a small pink circle that I stamped a circular pattern on:

I’m calling this design done! 😉

I wrote notes about about it in my square journal yesterday:

I learned a lot on this one.  I think a more solid color for the squares would have been better.  It is a little busy.  I decided that not every month is going to be a success.

Now that I have gotten one month completed, I am ready to think about February.
