Christmas Ornaments

I have been thinking about my handmade Christmas card for this year when this poem came to me:

And here are some of my favorite ornaments hanging on our Christmas tree…

A handmade heart my grandma made many years ago:

An ornament saved from my childhood that reminds me of the family tree:

And one an artist friend painted:

Each one holds a special place in my heart just for me!

A New Year’s Song

On the 3rd day of New Year’s, my true love gave to me:

3 plump Robins:

2 Doodled ornaments:

And 1 Northern Flicker in a Crab(apple) tree:

I took the bird photos from inside my kitchen window.  Isn’t that male Northern Flicker (Red Shafted) just gorgeous?!

As you recall, I posted the first one (on your left) on Christmas Day.

We will take down our Christmas tree and ornaments this week.  I couldn’t resist one last song for the holidays!

Have A Purr-fect Day!

Mom thought I looked cute posing with this Santa hat…

But I was having the purr-fect nap before being rudely awakened!

So I decided to attack the hat:

And since I was now AWAKE, I decided to go outside and explore:

Hmmm, this looks awfully cold….  And you know I hate getting my paws wet!

The tree looks really pretty from the DECK, don’t you agree?

Mom wanted to show you this ornament she made but since I can’t PLAY with it, I think it’s kind of boring…

I have my very own Christmas tree as all cats should!

But it is kind of boring because there aren’t any ornaments for me to REMOVE with my paws…

So guess I will go back and have another nap.  The couch is the best place for a nap in case you didn’t know.  Especially after all the Christmas festivities.

Alice’s Tree

I really enjoy the spontaneity of creating and the memories that come with art making.

Since I have been using cookie cutters as stencils for my art this week, I decided on a tree shape today:

But after three days of black and white doodles, I needed COLOR!

So I added a tint of color with Copic markers over my doodle:

The patterns and wonkiness reminded me of Alice in Wonderland!  LOL!

This got me thinking about a friend of mine, Alice who used to decorate her Christmas tree with hand-blown glass ornaments that her nephew made – kind of like this one:

I have this one hanging in my bathroom in front of a window.  (Please ignore the dust…)

I always thought my friend’s tree looked so magical with large one-of-a- kind ornaments hanging from its limbs and the light reflecting off the glass.  A little like the colors of my tree with color pencils added:

I miss my dear friend, Alice who passed away many years ago.  Yet, when I look at my glass ornament, I am reminded of our friendship and her colorful tree!

May the memories of your loved ones spark happiness in your heart today!

Three Ornaments

I have a bowl of vintage glass ornaments that remind me of Christmas past.  When my hubby and I have his family to our home to celebrate Christmas Eve, I like to decorate my table with these ornaments, bells and ribbons. Add a few candles and it makes an inexpensive yet festive table!

I was thinking about these decorations when I created these three ornaments today:

My ornaments and ribbons are Gelli-printed papers I made with acrylic paints earlier this year. I like how festive this looks!
