A Bird’s Eye View

Today’s weird bird is very wise…

The Mountaineer bird has a mountain top view of the world!

From the book, “Finding The Gift,” Angela Howell writes for January 2, “Open land steals my breath away, it’s so beautiful.  I see freedom, opportunity, stillness, serenity, and acceptance.  I feel captivated and present.  I see untouched land and feel like anything is possible.  I feel called and inspired to do and be something great.  I feel a direct connection to my higher guidance and inner knowing, and I’m quieted so I can listen.”

What does a bird’s eye view do for you?  I hope it empowers you to begin!

Happy Weird Bird Wednesday!

Cheers! 🙂

Finding The Gift

2017 has NOT been a healthy year in review,

Started with bronchitis and ended with the flu…

Had a big toe fusion and was rear-ended too,

Worked way too much which made me feel blue.

Still I managed to blog almost every day,

Created my weird birds every Wednesday.

       100 mixed-media faces and 50 fish, YAY!

Art experiments in the spirit of play.

2018 starts with a few goals, sincere –

Take care of my body, like a friend who is dear.

Notice the small gifts of JOY that appear,

Live my life with clear intention this year!

This poem was recently inspired by this article in Uppercase Magazine, written by Melanie Falick on living with intention.

And this book I purchased from Amazon, Finding The Gift, by Angela Howell with daily meditations for mindfulness.

I look forward to the small gems that I learn from this book to share with you on my art journey in 2018, after all, finding the gifts is part of the fun!

A Thousand Reasons To Smile

Life can give me unexpected surprises… How about YOU?

When I discovered this quote yesterday on the Internet, it encouraged me:

Last Saturday, I discovered these flowers from  A Walk In The Park

They were my inspiration for today’s artwork in my journal…

I hope my art and this quote will encourage you to smile too in difficult times.

Sunny weather last weekend changed to 30’s and SNOW this weekend!  😮

I’m thankful we were able to get our yard work done yesterday before the snow accumulates…

Wishing you one thousand reasons to smile every day!

Cheers! 🙂

Drawing Is Thinking…

I love this quote by Graphic Designer, Milton Glaser:

Drawing is a form of meditation for me…  And so is coloring my designs.

What is drawing for you?  I hope you to share it with me!

Cheers! 🙂

Creativity Is Not A Talent…

Wishing you a happy and creative day!

Imagine A Doodle

I recently started a new doodle and here is my progress:

Yesterday, I got a little more done on it:

One of my favorite art quotes by Albert Einstein is:

“Imagination is more important than knowledge.  For knowledge is limited to all we now know and understand, while imagination embraces the entire world and all there ever will be to know and understand.”

Cheers!  🙂

That’s Nonsense!

I think creating from my imagination is the most fun!  I hope you enjoy my ridiculous creatures:

I started each creature with a scrap of gelli-printed paper and then made up the rest of my animal, adding details with a black pen and color pencils.

And yesterday I created this silly Martian and told his story with this Limerick:

May it inspire the child in you to have fun and play in your art!

4 Color Painting – Done!

Thank you all for your input on my 4 color painting!  I liked ALL your suggestions so it was really difficult for me to choose which ones to ADD to my pages…

I hope you like the additions I made and look forward to hearing what you think!

Thanks again EVERYONE for your comments and likes!!

The Aim Of Art

“The aim of art,” according to Aristotle, “is to represent not the outward appearance of things but their inward significance.”

I used a melon baller, seed pod and seashells for my inspiration in these imaginary flowers:

I started with watercolor.   Next, I added layers of paper collage with matte gel medium, watercolor, and white gel pen.  I finished my piece with the quote from Aristotle:

What is the aim of art for you?

I think my aim for art is to create it!  I just love to explore new materials and discover how I can create it into something new for me – and maybe you too!

Cheers!  🙂

Jane Austen

I’m a little behind on my assignments in my year-long class with Carla Sonheim.  So yesterday, I combined two lessons into one.  This quote from Jane Austen on writing:

IMG_1097

And secondary, Carla’s tip on sanding magazine paper.  Roughing up this glossy paper gives it “tooth” which adds a nice texture to my collage.  It also gives a nice vintage feel to this piece which I like.  I added other papers, including an old postage stamp.

As many of you know, I love experimenting in art!   So this page was super fun to do. 🙂

Do you have a favorite book that Jane Austen wrote?  I hope you share it with me!

Cheers! 🙂
