Fake Mustache Day!

I was surprised to learn that yesterday was “International” Fake Mustache Day!¬† ūüėČ

So I created this collage in honor of the day:

And of course, I had to try putting a fake mustache on a silly bird… perhaps you remember Bob?¬† If not, you can find an earlier version of¬†him here.

Well, if you are still wanting to join in on the FUN, no worries!¬† “National” Fake Mustache Day is February 24th!

Cooking for Cats

I realize this is Weird Bird Wednesday but today’s show post has been interrupted by this NEW cooking show…

img_9731

Well, it DOES have a bird in it and it IS weird so I guess it counts!! Lol!

Cheers! ¬†ūüôā

P.S. What do you call a cat who eats lemons? ¬†A sourpuss¬† ūüėČ

Jakob Cats

Introducing Jakob Cats – A Dutch Poet for today’s Whimsical Wednesday¬†story:

image

Who is the REAL Jakob Cats?  And why is this his favorite dish?

image

Here is my story…

Jakob Cats¬†was known as “Father Cats” because of his love of cats.¬† Jakob took in many stray cats during his¬†lifetime that kept him company while he wrote his poetry.¬† At one time, Mr. Cats owned over 30 cats at once!¬† :-0

Having owned so many cats, Mr. Cats started to look like a cat himself.  He grew several face whiskers extra long and painted the end of his nose a light pink color.

Mr. Cats recently purchased a new “calico” coat¬†with a¬†matching hat that looked like cat ears.¬† He wore it¬†to his mother’s home when she made him his favorite birthday dinner, “Veal Stew with Prunes.”¬† He was the cat’s meow in his mother’s eyes.

Now it is your turn to tell a story!¬† I hope that you have fun giving it your own creative spin!¬† I’d love if you shared it with me!

Happy tales to you!¬† ūüôā

When Life Gives You Lemons…

When life gave me lemons, I tried to draw and paint them in my sketchbook…

And create a collage using an old photograph:

And create the beginning of a story…

School was starting soon and all the kids dreaded Mrs. Lemon’s class! ¬†She hardly ever smiled because…¬† Now it’s your turn to finish the story in a sentence or two! ¬†ūüćčūüėČūüĆü

Did you have a teacher that you dreaded in school?! ¬†I’d love to hear about it!

Happy Whimsical Wednesday friends! ¬†I hope I gave you a smile today!! ¬†ūüėĄ

The Flapjack Bird

A friend made us cottage cheese pancakes at the lake this weekend which gave me the idea for today’s Weird Bird Wednesday

The amazing Flapjack can condense its body almost as flat as a pancake when it senses the flying Frypan close by:

When I was a child, my dad used to¬†pour the pancake batter¬†into creative shapes.¬† I don’t remember any birds however.¬† Lol!

I hope this gives you a smile today!¬† ūüôā

Pass the syrup, please!!

The Guests

In case you haven’t heard, Charlie at Doodlewash is hosting a dinner party this month!¬† It is a Doodlewash dinner party where you are invited to bring your paintbrush and draw your dinner or drink and share it on your blog.

Not too much has been shared about the guests who have started to arrive, so let’s go see who they are, shall we?!¬† (Oh, and I almost forgot, each one has brought a recipe to share with you!)

Josh arrives with a broken arm – Oh, no!!¬† He broke it while playing basketball with his son.¬† So Josh needed to bring this easy appetizer, Parmesan Cheese Spread.¬† “Be sure to use REAL Parmesan cheese and not the fake stuff on the shelf,” advises Josh, “It will make a huge difference.”

Rowdy Rob comes dancing in the door carrying his popular Party Veggie Salad.¬† Rob still wears his hair in a 70’s style and thinks he’s a hit with the ladies…

Next two people to arrive are Cindy Lou and her Aunt Betty Lou.  Cindy brings her zippy Meatloaf Strata.

And Aunt Betty who is a bit nutty but sweet, brings her Butterscotch Nut Bars.

Doris arrives unexpectedly with her cat, Fluffy who makes Charlie’s dog go crazy!¬† Luckily, Philippe comes to the rescue and puts Phineas in the bedroom and closes the door.¬† Doris who seems a little aloof to the whole situation presents her Upside Down Popover Pizza while Fluffy settles upside down on the couch…

Eccentric Midge saunters in carrying her famous Chocolate Julep Cheesecake.  One bite of her divine dessert and no one minds that she owns 10 cats.

Let’s hope Charlie has some wine open to get this dinner party started while MORE guests arrive…. (To be continued…)

All characters were created randomly with a brush of black acrylic ink and my imagination.

I hope I gave you a smile today and maybe a recipe or two to try?!

Happy Creating!¬† ūüôā

Stay CALM And…

Since today is National Tell A Story Day, I decided to combine it with my Weird Bird Wednesday

Harold flew in just in time to help me¬†today…

image

“Hello Harold!¬† So nice of you to stop by and help me plant my flowers today!”¬† I said exuberantly.

“Why of course,” said Harold as he started scratching in the dirt¬†with his feet to make room for my flowers in¬†the planter, “I wouldn’t miss it!”

image

“You know I am very fond of flowers,” chirped Harold as he perched on a tree branch next to me.¬† “They add so much color!¬† And some even attract my friends, the Hummingbirds.”

“Why yes, Harold,” I¬†agreed as I tucked my flowers into the dirt. “Do you have a favorite flower, Harold?”¬† I asked.

“Why yes I do, Ms. Jill!¬† I love Violets because in the fall I like to spread the seeds all over,” said Harold flapping his wings.¬† “Then everyone gets to enjoy them!”

“Thank you Harold for spreading the love of flowers!”¬† I exclaimed as Harold flew off in the sky.

Now you know how Violets, like these flowers – show up in unexpected places…

So, “Stay CALM and Garden On” like Harold.¬† ūüôā

Harold’s Idea

It was a blustery Spring day yesterday when Harold landed on my doorstep.

You do remember Harold, don’t you?

I invited Harold inside for a hot cup of Mint Magic tea:

image

As Harold’s feathers started to warm-up, he started chirping, I mean, CHATTING almost non-stop!

image

Here is some of our conversation….

“You know summer is coming,” said Harold while tapping his beak impatiently on his teacup…”

“Why yes, Harold.”¬† I replied quietly.

“So I think it is time to roll out some fun!”¬† Replied Harold, waving his wings enthusiastically.

“How do you suggest I do this?”¬† I replied calmly.

“Well, I think you could start a Weird Bird Wednesday on your blog,” said Harold, spilling a little tea on his scarf in his excitement.

“Oh?”¬† I replied with caution.

“Why yes,” said Harold, “You could create one of your weird birds from dictionary.com –¬†word of the day.¬† And maybe your readers will want to suggest a word now and then too!”

“That may work,” I replied as the imagination wheels started spinning in my head.

“And I will get the ball rolling by suggesting the first word for your weekly series,” said Harold with a smile on his beak.

(How could I turn down a smiling bird!)¬† “Okay, I will do it!” I said happily.¬† Harold stood and gave me a high-five with his wing.

“What word do you suggest for the first Weird Bird Wednesday?”¬† I asked.

“Ninnyhammer!”¬† Shouted Harold as he giggled and flew out my door…

Here is my Ninnyhammer bird (AKA – A Noodlehead):

Now you know how some of my creative ideas get started!  Harold and I hope you play along and suggest words for a future, Weird Bird Wednesday!

Happy Smiles!  :-)))

Wacky Wednesday

Well, I couldn’t resist a little wacky word play with this word of the day:

wing-ding Рnoun  1.  a noisy, exciting celebration or party

Wendy Warbler wants to WOW all birds at Wednesday’s wild wing-ding!

Wendy Warbler

Wendy’s wearing a wacky wardrobe while whistling, “Rockin Robin” and whirling wildly.¬† I wonder will Wendy win?

What worldly words of wisdom would you give Wendy?

Have a wonderful Wednesday!

And HAPPY whistling!¬† Tweet Tweet!¬† ūüôā

Alice’s Tree

I really enjoy the spontaneity of creating and the memories that come with art making.

Since I have been using cookie cutters as stencils for my art this week, I decided on a tree shape today:

Tree cookie cutter

But after three days of black and white doodles, I needed COLOR!

So I added a tint of color with Copic markers over my doodle:

Tree doodle with markers

The patterns and wonkiness reminded me of Alice in Wonderland!  LOL!

This got me thinking about a friend of mine, Alice who used to decorate her Christmas tree with hand-blown glass ornaments that her nephew made – kind of like this one:

Hand blown ornament

I have this one hanging in my bathroom in front of a window.¬† (Please ignore the dust…)

I always thought my friend’s tree looked so magical with¬†large¬†one-of-a- kind ornaments hanging from its limbs and the light reflecting off the glass.¬†¬†A little like the colors of¬†my tree with color pencils added:

Tree Doodle complete

I miss my dear friend, Alice who passed away many years ago.  Yet, when I look at my glass ornament, I am reminded of our friendship and her colorful tree!

May the memories of your loved ones spark happiness in your heart today!

Cheers!¬† ūüôā

PS.¬† How do you like my new signature “JKK” on my artwork?
