Tag Archives: Sunny Sunday

Remember the Nasturtium flowers I drew in my art journal last month?  Well, I decided to try painting them loosely in watercolors this week.

I started with painting wet-into-wet on 140 lb cold press paper.  You can see it in the photo on the left.  It was a cloudy day so perfect weather for painting outside.

I had my trusty helper, Jack, close by:

So I was ready to begin.  I tried not to overthink it:

I added a few more details with watercolor:

I couldn’t leave it alone so I added a few color pencil details…

I didn’t like the look of the color pencils so I tried adding some watercolor pencils.  But the more I fiddled with it, the more I disliked it.  So I decided to give it a rest and come back to it later.

Here is one more photo for you to enjoy.  I just love these bright orange flowers!

Wishing you a sunny Sunday and happy painting!  🙂

Johnny, jump up in your jump suit and come jump rope with me!

Sounds like a jump rope song from when I was a child…Lol!  🙂

I learned from Kerfe at Method Two Madness that a Viola flower is called a Johnny-Jump-Up when she commented on my post here.  Please check out Kerfe and Nina’s blog – they are two friends who share a passion for creating art!   It is always a joy to see what project they are up to on their blog.  🙂

I hope you enjoyed a little silliness on a Sunday!

Wishing you a sunny day!  🙂

A Flower Sketch

I have these flowers growing in my yard that I don’t know the name of…  Do you?

I love how they meander along my stone walkway.  So I decided to try sketching them.

I picked three stems in different stages of growth:

I used a black Micron pen with watercolor pencils, blending the colors with my water brush in my art journal.  I added a little turquoise around the edges with a color pencil:

I found this flower study and sketching very meditative.  I thought the quote summed it up nicely.

May your Sunny Sunday bring you JOY in life’s simple pleasures!

Happy Drawing!  🙂

Make A Wish

Look deep into nature and then you will understand everything better. – Albert Einstein

I thought you might enjoy these photos I took at the lake last weekend.  Nature has a way of dazzling me with its simple beauty.

The wild Columbine was in bloom:

I didn’t notice the bee until later…

I even found this dandelion beautiful:

So I created this page in my turquoise journal that I showed you yesterday:

May you pause today and find beauty in nature’s simple pleasures!

Wishing you a sunny Sunday, friends!  🙂

A Single Rose

A rose speaks of love silently, in a language known only to the heart. – Anonymous

My husband and I recently celebrated our 32nd wedding anniversary.  Every year he buys me a bouquet of beautiful roses.  I am always very touched by his thoughtfulness.  🙂

This rose I have growing in my yard.  I painted it in watercolor last year.  I love how the shadows dance on the leaves and petals in this photo.  Maybe I will try painting it in acrylics and adding collage to it this year.

It seems kind of complicated to me though so I could use your painterly advice!  Thanks friends!

And may you have a Sunny Sunday!  🙂

A Juvenile Woodpecker

When I was at the lake last weekend, I noticed a woodpecker in this tree – tap, tap, tapping away:

After much research, I think that it is a Juvenile Downey Woodpecker because it still has a bright red cap.  And since today is Mother’s Day, I thought it was perfect to include him!

Today is also, “Draw A Bird” day on WordPress which is being hosted by the very talented, Laura at Create Art Everyday.  Be sure to check out her blog as she will be compiling a list of all the participants for this month’s challenge!  Thanks Laura!

I decided to “Collage A Bird” which really started with a drawing, using papers that I painted in watercolor:

As I was walking around the area at the lake, I noticed that the ferns were starting to unfurl and the wild strawberries were waking up in the warm spring sunshine too:

And here is a view of the lake – doesn’t it look peaceful?!

Wishing you a Sunny Sunday!

Enjoy your day, friends….  🙂

Lavender Lilacs

Spring arrived and went straight to summer I think…  We have had temperatures in the high 70’s for the last 2 weeks so my lilacs are blooming about 2 weeks early.

I just love the sweet scent of lilacs, how about you?

I created an abstract watercolor of my lilacs and then added some collage paper:

I finished it by adding a few color pencils:

Sweet perfume blossoms – In soft shades of lavender – Delight my senses…

Wishing you a sunny Sunday!  🙂

The Volunteers

Bright, cheery faces

They showed up unexpected

Waiting for me….

So I painted them!

Spring Arrives

Spring has arrived early in the Pacific Northwest with unusually warm temperatures!  I took this photo of my Flowering Plum tree yesterday and created a haiku for you:

Delicate pink blooms

Dance in a brilliant blue sky

Spring arrives early.

Enjoy your day!  🙂
